  • Also $49.99 on eBay here

Anyone know if this is a solid dashcam?

    • I too would like to know this.

      • Looks good on the Youtube reviews

    • Have been using it for a few years now, not great quality but adequate.
Survived a few Melbourne summers so cant fault it too much.

      • How does this compare to a Samsung S7 ? Camera wise.?

        • S7 is slightly better i recon, but as long as you can identify a numberplate of the car in front, its ok in my book :)

          • @bogzy: Yeah u can. Been using it as I get in the car and drive.

            hmm

        • You're using Samsung s7 as a dashcam? how?

            • @Turd: What a close one! Bless your Beautiful Soul.

              • @androo: Yeah, lucky for the small dip, that's why I went slowly, didnt want to scratch the bottom of the car.

Though a new car would have been nice LOL

            • @Turd: yeah, the clip looks alright isn't it? wondering if you put the phone on a suction mount. also doesn't it slow down or turns off in summer?

              • @[Deactivated]: yeah clip looks good with the S7. It does get semi hot but i think if i turn off the mobile data it will be cooler.

@[Deactivated]: Don't forget to take the phone out when you park the car. In Brisbane, I've measured the air temperature in my car as high as 65 degrees, and that's a white car - I imagine darker-coloured cars would be even hotter.

Mobile phones aren't designed for that sort of temperature, and most lithium-ion batteries are only rated to 45 degrees maximum.

As the mobile phone will be in the sun inside the car, I think it will get even hotter than 65 degrees. I've seen some plastic items curl up and partially melt after being left on the dashboard.

                • @Russ: thanks for the input.

      • PS: i have the older version w/o voice controls. Got a firmware update to switch to full english a year back so pretty convenient.

    • Nice find. Also get 4% off eBay Plus members with code PLUS4P. comes down to $47.99

  • Does parking mode work when powered through the cigarette lighter? I thought you had to hardwire a camera to do that?

  • +1

I wonder how it compares to the popular 70mai

  • Is it possible (good) to use a dashcam as a webcam?
Is there some type of cable or attachment?
The Logitech C2x and Brio webcams are so overpriced.

If you're looking for (cheap) alternative webcam options, maybe consider the phone route. Bought DroidCamX in app store, and this phone holder which I attach to my monitor. Using a Xiaomi Mi9T. Pretty good results so far.

      • Great idea. Thank you!

    • I've heard new and 2nd hand action cams are better options but YMMV since I've never tried either option

Is the firmware already updated to show English menu?

  • Wouldn't recommend xiaomi dashcams. Video doesn't save on turning off car. Have had better with el cheapo brands

  • The dashcam is OK for the price but I didn't particularly like the quality of the videos. Also had an issue, after downloading the video the audio codec wasn't supported on my Samsung Galaxy S10 so I couldn't hear any audio when trying to playback on my phone.

I have since bought a Viofo A129 Duo and it's excellent, albeit the price difference to the xiaomi. The xiaomi is still goof at what it does, but I just wanted a bit more clarity in video quality.

Note: I didn't flash the firmware to English version since I my parents can read Chinese. I just learnt which button I need to tap for it to save a clip.
