  • JB must be charging over RRP then @ $299
    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/car-sound/gps/garmin-nuvi-236…

The map deal is likely regardless of the retailer, not that I've seen in cheaper elsewhere.

    • You seem to have misread my post.

      RRP on maps is $189
      Watch RRP is $249.
As for the GPS, the RRP is $299 - what JB want for it.

      • clearer now you add RRP of watch ;)

  • i went to checkout, they are charging $4.95 for the delivery of the free watch. but there is no delivery fee for the GPS unit

This looks like a great deal, If you ebayed the silly watch for $150, your GPS with lifetime updates costs $99. I think you could even use it for 12 months and still get more than $99 selling it second hand!

I can't seem to find any info, will this unit alert you to fixed speed cameras? If so, I am buying for sure!

EDIT: never mind, this is a good link: http://www.garmin.com/au/extras/garmin-safety-cameras/

going to be a few Garmin S1 watches on eBay after this ;)

      • Yep mine will be on as soon as I have it in my hand, (hopefully when I pick up today!)
Unless I can find a use for it other than golf….

  • Sorry for my ignorance but the DSE site says free NZ maps. Is the australian map also included?

    • I believe all Nuvi Garmin products sold in Australia by an authorised re seller will have AU and NZ maps. I think Dick Smith have put NZ maps as a 'bonus' and the unit is loaded with AU maps by default.

      • Thanks for the clarification

        • No probs! I couldnt help but order one today, we used an older less featured model in the USA late last year in a few different hire cars and I am not sure what I would have done without it! Not as essential in OZ but for the price its features like camera and traffic alerts and such will be well worth it!

  • Sounds like an excellent deal and I'm tempted, but they don't play mp3's like the TomTom do :-(

S'pose I could get this then buy a car that has iPodness - bargain!

    • Actually, Looking at their site looks like TomTom dropped that feature.

Pity it is only a 4.3" screen.

5" and I'd buy it no hesitation - going blind in my old age :)

Just be aware that Garmin consider a 'lifetime' as 3 years!

    • Could you please support your argument?

      • I can't.. I read an article in one of the PC mags a couple of years ago about it.. At the same time, please point out any electronics company that can offer lifetime updates for free. There is an implied timeframe to products that are sold as 'lifetime'.. Do you really expect to be using the same GPS in another 5 years? when the mapping data would be considerably bigger than the now obsolete unit can handle.

        • I don't expect to use the same GPS in 5 years but then again, I expect that if I were choose to (as no doubt some people would), I would be entitled to free map updates.

In regards to software, there are plenty of companies that offer updates for their products for a very long time. E.g. anti-virus software that need to regularly update their virus definitions.

Unless I see evidence to suggest otherwise, I'm going to assume that 'lifetime' in this context means that as long as Garmin sell maps for whatever device I bought, then I would be entitled to the maps for free.

      • From what I know… a "lifetime" means the time as long as the product is still being manufactured. So, as soon as the product announced as "end of life" that is the end of it. And a gadget these days seem to "live" not more than three years. Cmiiw

        • Yes, they must have some way to wriggle out of it. They surely don't mean our lifetime so someone who is 20 now will still expect it in 60 years? :-)

Here's what the Garmin FAQ says:

Q: How long is the Garmin Lifetime Map Update valid for?

A: The life of the 1 Garmin GPS unit that the update is installed on, or until Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter.

So if you can keep your device going I can't see why it shouldn't be updated.

        • As I said above, I think it's fair that to expect that 'lifetime' lasts up to the period where they stop selling the maps for the device.

It would be unreasonable for Garmin to arbitrarily claim a certain model to be "end of life" then still sell maps for it and expect the people who bought "lifetime" subscriptions to pay again.

That's what I would EXPECT anyway

      Vladdo thats absolute rubbish!

I have 2 garmin products (forerunner watch and gps for car), and both are real lifetime.
It's on their website for godsake. It's certainly not limited to 3 years.

    Is this new or used?

    </potshot>

  • Can someone confirm whether the watch is a Dick Smith only thing or a Garmin thing? Reason is The Good Guys have this for $218 as standard. Could price match at Dick Smith if the watch is a Garmin thing?

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/caringbah/Garmin_Nuvi_2360LT_G…

    • Its a Dick Smith Bonus only, not via redemption through Garmin like the 'Lifetime Maps' Promo.

      • So do you reckon Dick Smith would price match Good Guys with the watch included?

    • So I went in to pick this up and the very rude salesperson told me that the deal had expired on boxing day. I told them politely that it is still active on the website, showed her the page on my Ipad and asked that she try again. After a quick (reluctant)chat with the manager, it was all sorted. I cheekily tried to price match Good Guys anyway, and he told me that he couldn't do that due to the terms and conditions of price match :(

Nice looking unit, well featured and for me the perfect size for the windscreen!

Pretty good buy for about $100, after a bit of ebaying, can't go wrong, thank you so much OP!

  • I want the watch, not the GPS though.

  • Ive bought this model from good guys for $189 - so you are paying for the watch in one form or another

    • Before the Lifetime Maps Promo? I have kept an eye on these for a few months now and have never seen it sub 200. Maybe it was a refurb, or a one off deal at a single Good Guys Store?

      • it included the lifetime map promotion, as I only just bought it last week. brand new in the box. Saw it advertised in their catalogue for $189 so it would of been across all stores.

      • If Good Guys have them for $218 as their advertised price, then I reckon you could get it for just under $200. The Caringbah GG store in Sydney is pretty good as taking a fair chunk off the advertised price which is where I tend to go.

        • Fair enough! I should pay more attention lol

    • Great review there, even more happier with purchase after reading this :)

      • So you've already bought it or are about to buy it?

        • Reserved in store about to go pick up, happy to ebay the watch :)

  • I bought this GPS from good guys highpoint for $185 last week.

    • What was their advertised price?

      • advertised price was 189, it's now 219 can try for 185.

    • Me too. Went to Dick Smith, they wouldn't sell it for less than $290. Went to JB Hi Fi, they wouldn't sell it for less than $240. Finally went to GG and they were even happy to sell 2460LT for $245.

  • Nice find - bought it this morning and advertised the watch on eBay this afternoon.

    • At least you're one of the only ones on eBay that seem to have a sensible price on the watch! You share a bargain and people exploit it around here commanding $200 for the watch - pretty disappointing really! $150-ish, yes, fair enough - but $200 - you'd be better getting it from a retail shop!

  • good deal! bought it

    • just got an invoice from dick smith by email, it said the golf GPS has been shipped, the actual car gps is on backorder, anyone similar or actually got their GPS shipped?

  • -6
    • I'll rather have the GPS watch for an extra $31

  • Just got this today, watch went to my dad who plays golf. Voice command seems to work pretty well when it's quiet, not sure about when I try it on the road.
Did anyone get something for the free lifetime map updates? Nothing about it in the box.

    • Don't worry, just found the website for it from some online shop selling it: www.garminredemption.com

      • It got delivered this morning… though I only received the S1 watch.
Perhaps the GPS is sent separately?

Thanks for the link for the lifetime maps.

  • hey has anyone tried the Paypal + Dicksmith 20 $ cashback on this one.

Dicksmith has cashback offer of $20 when you spend over $200 in a single order with your PayPal account! This offer is limited to only one cash back per PayPal

    • didn't know about this one. do you have to claim it during checkout?

  • Just got both in shop for $237.50 (had gift cards bought at 5% off).

  • A LOT of the watches on ebay - you might want to rethink the deal in light of this.

    • Depends what you mean by a LOT, there are not that many IMO, and they are still going for an average price of >$150, which still makes this a great deal. There are ONLY 8 watches that currently have bids on them.
Even if you get $100 for the thing its still well and truly better than any other deal.

      • Sold mine for $140, so will end up with about $125 after post & fees. GPS will have cost me $112.50.

Have to say I'm not wild about the GPS. Doesn't play mp3's, not very customisable, naf voices (I like the Irish female one on the TomTom). I saw a show on tv recently where a bloke got in trouble with his misses for flirting with the GPS girlie. The TomTom seems much more polished (my 3 year old one).

        • Cool, pretty much worth it, its a shame you are not happy with the unit, did you read the reviews/specs to know what to expect? There are other voices you can put on it from the Garmin dashboard, some are free some are about 10 bucks.

I wonder if you could return it for a full refund?? Or take it to another store for a store credit with a 'lost' receipt…

        • You can customise the voices by downloading them or creating your own.

        • Cool, will look around :)

  • +1

Yes, I read up on it. Can't return just for change of mind to Dick Smith now. They dropped that 14 day no questions asked return policy. Anyway sold the watch. Haven't actually used it in the car yet so it may be ok. Just a matter of getting used to it. The mp3 thing is useful, so I'll miss that. iPod is not so easy to control in car. Maybe I can use TomTom for music and Garmin for traffic.

Set the TomTom to a different address so the sexy Irish lady can tell me I'm a bad, bad boy for going the wrong way :-)

  • +1

They only have novelty voices on the Garmin site - presumably you can get other voices elsewhere.
