[PC] Far Cry Primal $5 + Postage (Free C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

280

Likely just a code in a box but figured it was worth a post.

I originally skipped on this title because it sounded dumb and I'd miss the gunplay of the previous titles, but over the years since I've heard it was actually pretty fun so I've been on the look out for a sub-$10 copy of it. Cheapest it's been digitally is $8.44, so this is pretty nice compared to that. Nicer still if (unlike me) you live near a JB, let alone one with stock.

But hey, $1.99 postage and I'm still winning. Thought I'd share it in case any one else was interested in this.

    Is this game any good?

Ive played Far Cry 3 and that was really good, but have not played anymore of the series after that.

I mean, I've heard it is. It'll be quite the departure from all you know though.

If you're jumping from Far Cry 3, I would get on one of the other more recent FC title and I think you will enjoy it. If you were to play every title, you would probably get a bit bored with the samey story lines each time, but I find them pretty fun and I'm pretty happy to get on them when they're around $30. New Dawn on console is $5 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/611318), which isn't the best one but is insanely cheap for the few hours of fun you'll get out of it, even on the easiest difficulty. Might not be too engrossing or challenging, but it will be fun.

That said, I believe this game is a bit of a departure from the others in the series. Probably from FC3, may as well be different games.

Thanks for the in-depth reply, was helpful.

        • For a middle of the road sort of game, I get very passionate about Far Cry for some reason haha

It's one of the better ones, for one simple reason.

In all the other games, you supposed to be this naïve waif, thrown into a crazy situation out of your control. but if you've played action games before, you instantly become this killing death machine, able to take on pretty much anything.

Primal is different - you get thrown out into the wilderness, with low-powered weapons. if you tangle with something bigger and meaner than you, you are going to DIE. if a mammoth or a rhino even sees you, you are going to DIE, let alone packs of animals. Your only solution is to run, hide, and think carefully about how you travel.

in other words, it feels like this is what they wanted the Far Cry games to be all along, but never really nailed with any of the other ones. I really enjoyed playing it that way.

      • Even more glad I bought it now. I try my best to play all the games like that but they really prefer you going all Rambo. So this will be an interesting change.

      • This.

On Expert difficulty/Survivor mode (Permadeath) with all of the hardest difficulty settings turned on (no minimap, no HUD, etc), it basically becomes a survival horror experience as you really can't engage enemies (at best you can scare animals off with fire and buy yourself time to escape) and you have to constantly sneak around to avoid being detected as well as be on the lookout for food as you need to constantly eat/sleep to replenish your stamina bar.

Encountering any of the more dangerous animals like Sabertooth cats or cave bears is a very tense experience and every growl in the distance puts you on edge. You end up travelling along rivers a lot as they provide a convenient escape route; save for bears, which can also swim.

I highly recommend playing Far Cry Primal this way for fans of games like Alien: Isolation or Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It plays unlike any other Far Cry game and has a very compelling mixture of stealth, survival horror and FPS.

This one was probably my favourite, was just something different. Was cool running around with a bow rather than rocket launcher and machine gun.

$5 is a steal. Got it and pickup is available instantly :D

Not available at my local… might cost more in petrol due to Sydney's traffic jams than $5.
    Good deal nonetheless.

  • must be cheap for reason. lol

    • It's taken a long time to get down that far, surprisingly. Discounts on it have never been enough for my liking until now.

My patience is rewarded. (inb4 Ubi/Epic gives it away within a month)

Far Cry games are always happily average, can't be that bad.

I checked other games at JB HiFi and saw Evolve for $1… now THAT'S bad!

As above, some games just get dirt cheap to the point that they don't really care. Assassins Creed is a good example, going regularly around this price. I am usually happy to wait for FC games to get below $30 to jump on, good value at that price.

      • I'm the same with AC, wait till it hits $20.

    • I bought The Elder Scrolls Online for $13.50 which was cool. still playing it a year later.

    • +1

Yep, it's a 5 year old game and I'm sure having games on the shelf that have been out that long makes shelf space limited for new releases.

  • +4

Just be aware, this is not CO-OP like many other FC games…

    • +1

      Phew.

Not that I knew the other ones were either. Always played them solo.

  • Do you reckon they will read the CD key out over the phone?

    • I wouldn't imagine so.

  • It is gone, missed it.
