  • Cheap as beans, any love for SA?

Unfortunately nothing in SA just yet! Hopefully soon :)

What if you have a 1kw system from 10+ years ago?

    Can you add this?

    • In order to be eligible for the SOLARVIC rebate and loan, people who installed their system prior to 1 November 2009 are eligible. Alternatively, you would have to remove the existing system in order to install the new system with the rebates.

  • +1

Will you install a system in the ACT?

    • Unfortunately ACT is out of our service area at the moment :(

      Hopefully soon!

  • Waiting for a good WA deal…

  • Interested.

    • Please send us either a PM or email :)

  • Shame I have every potential issue there is with solar (double storey, terracotta tiles, 3 phase power, small roof requiring multiple sides installed). Probably doesn't add up unless you can get panels half the size and twice the power output :(

    • +1

For 6.6kw, it shouldn’t make any difference between three phase power and single phase. You can generally just use a single phase inverter and the meter will net imports on one phase against exports on the solar phase. There are some advantages to a three-phase inverter, but they are really pretty minor for a system of this size.

Panels have come a long way. These are 440w per panel compared to 265w that I got about 4 years ago in the same size and there are options with slightly higher wattage per panel than this.

Installing on two sides of the roof is normal for optimum production anyway (NW+NE, N+W or E+W are all great and arguably better than pure North) and all inverters support this. If you need three sides then there are possibilities, but it does get more limited.

Double story and terracotta tiles will add to the cost a bit, but should be entirely doable.

Unless you actually don’t have space for enough panels, I’d be amazed if it wasn’t worth getting solar for you. Usually the payback period is under 5 years and often well under, especially with the VIC rebate. Consider that even if you didn’t use any of the power yourself and fed it all back to the grid at next year’s reduced minimum feed in tariff, that’s still about $600 a year and you of course will use power form it and retailers may offer more than the minimum FIT. The FIT may reduce further in future years, but you are always going to use power.

      • Very good reply! Couldnt have phrased it any better myself.

        • Thanks mps41

@Pristine I'm going to email you for a quote

    Any deals for NSW?

    • Please PM us directly, and we can work out something similar for Sydney.

  • 440w panels…impressive. What physical size / voltage are they?

    • Quite impressive. 1868×1134×30mm

Very similar to the 370W panel size. You can find more info on the attached datasheet :)

This sounds a little like false advertising.
So it seems to be $2200 + a loan of $1850?
    so total is $4050?
How much does the customer end up paying all together after the loan is paid out?

    • +2

      no,

      1850 rebate from vic government
1850 interest free from the 2200-350

    • Apologies if there was any confusion.

Total amount payable by the customer is $350 (after install) + $1850 Solarvic loan (interest free, 4 year period).

      • yea this makes more sense… i was trying hard to understand the main post.. confusing as hell..

Is the VIC feed-in-tariff (FIT) rates decreasing from 1st July? Which energy retailers are providing the highest FIT currently in VIC?

    • They are. Looks like they're reducing to approximately 6c minimum tariff.

Unsure regarding who provides the highest FIT. We dont really deal with the electricity retailer end.

    • Good to know is going to decrease.

I find out there is a plan,

Not sure it's good rate or not. :)

Hi OP, interested in this one. Can I combine these panels with the Fronius inverter? I've been hearing mixed reviews about Growatt inverter from different friends and also some installers are saying there are potential warranty and customer service problems with Growatt and they've suggested Sungrow or Fronius.

    • If you have any specific Inverters or Panels, please let us know, and we are happy to work out a deal. Our range of panels include LG, Longi, REC, QCell, Seraphim, Hyundai. We also provide a wide array of Inverters which include SMA, SolarEdge, SunGrow, Huawei, ABB, and EnPhase.

      • @Ultraman, Yes, I read the original post and I've already requested the quote to OP in PM based on my requirements, but since I haven't heard from them here, thought to ask in the comments thinking someone may have had the experience around that. Have you got any response around the warranty/customer service side of Growatt, sungrow, fronius?

        • Following. Please let me know what prestige solar says?

    • Hi Guys,

We can do the same setup with Fronius. Fronius is roughly $1000/$1100 compared to the quoted deal.

      • Does it also include Solar Analytics Monitoring?

      • +1

As in, $1000 up front or $1000 additional price ($1350 upfront) compared to the quoted deal?

        • $1000 additional - $1350 upfront :)

          • @Pristine Solar: Sounds good! Sent you an email at 4:08pm on Tuesday, looking forward to the quote.

I got a Growatt Hybrid inverter installed. I called up the Growatt Australia phone number and got through to someone reasonably easy.

      My only gripes so far.

The phone app for setting my battery settings is buggy. But 99.9% of people wouldn't change the default settings anyway.

The SPH5000 inverter is close to its CEC expiry. Growatt said they were going to renew it for another 3 years, I'm going to hold them to that.

The inverter has no cooling fans. The inverter temps go above 70C, and that's not good enough in my opinion. Growatt (chatted honestly with me about it) say people dont want fan noise, and the fans won't last 10 years. They feel their massive heatsinks are good enough. I put 4 PC fans in series across the top powered by a small 18V solar panel (attached it on top of the isolator cover). So if the sun's strong, the fans spin up fast. No sun, they don't spin.
The inverter now max's out around 50C, and I can't hear it (use a ladder to check they are spinning).

I know this deal isn't for a battery setup, but if you were considering one in the future, Growatt inverters arent supported by any VPP program, nor any energy trading platform. So no chance of selling your battery power back at big $$ when pricing surges.

Pros - The monitoring software works well. The inverter efficiency is excellent. Customer support seems ok. See how it goes in 5 year +

I wouldn't spend extra on a Fronius. If the inverter dies just outside the warranty, you could buy another for the Fronius price difference.

      • I did the same with $10 usb fan and turn it on/off automatically by home assistant. This can bring the temperature down 10C. But I have problem with high grid voltage in my area, the inverter will reduce the output power if the voltage reaches ~255v.

        • Can ask your energy supplier to check your area. They can adjust it if it is constantly high. Technically we have a 230v grid. Never seen more than 252v here.

  • Do you have any specials on solar batteries with Vic rebates?

  • +2

Guys I would think twice about going with this mob. I’ve had a system installed by them and the number of issues I’ve had and the support I’ve received has made me sorta regret it. There is an ongoing issue with the install and the whole operation is handled by just one guy. Calls usually go to voicemail and email responses are after days.

Their quote is cheap but if things go sideways you’re SOL, as I’ve found out.
