One of the better games of last gen..and I say that as an xbox guy

  • +4

Yup, got it for $29 from JB a week ago. Good price for such a good game though.

  • +1

Will wait for it to hit $12! backlog is still huge

    • +8

It never gets smaller, let's be honest

    • there's going to be a remaster they're going to charge for might as well wait for that one.

      • This is just a rumour for now.

  • +6

Mine is still sealed, waiting for a possible PS5 update

  • +1

Do I need to/Should I play the first one first?

    • +15

Yeah you really should. These games are all about the story so jumping in half way won’t be as good.

    • +3

      100% yes

    • +4

      Ideally as said, yes.

1 is amazing in its own right and the characters carry over, so not knowing where they come from would lessen the impact of 2's story… which for me is one of the most emotional rides I've been on from any game or movie. The PS4 port of 1 still holds up pretty well.

    • +14

Just play the first one, skip part 2 it will ruin it for you

        • +3

Plenty of people feel/reject Part 2 so not surprising.

          • +2

@lookingforTV: Yea a small, very very vocal few people. I still have no clue how playing a second game could ruin the first. The first was a classic.

            • +6

@onlinepred: lol amount of negative reviews from Metacritic certainly indicates that these people are not 'small few vocal people'. For some people, playing the second game ruined the first game because the second game invalidates almost everything that happened in the first game. Glad you enjoyed the second, I didn't.

              • -1

@lookingforTV: Damn, just need a simple story where we all end up happy so we? 93% positive on metacritic. Ouchies. Half of the negative reviews are homophobes, or worse, against a strong woman character.

                • @onlinepred: I was referring to user rating of 5.7 on Metacritic. "Half of the negative reviews are homophobes though." sigh, here is another stupid radical comment.

                  • @lookingforTV: “but the worst thing in the game and the reason I giving this game this rating is when you are controling Abby!! I cant get away with this thing that you have to play as someone whos the bad guy and everything she's been through didnt make me understand her!! “

“ forced politics and LGBTQ ideals”

This is just an example of the dribble on metacritic. I think many haven’t even played the game.

              • +2

@lookingforTV: Many of the harsh super-low metacritic reviews for the game were actually posted before anyone could have played through the full title (or played any) and were based solely on storyline leaks that individuals took issue with. Not cool on so many levels.

It’s why there’s such a discrepancy between review sites and user reviews for the title.

The response actually changed the metacritic review process going forward - to avoid a repeat of the flaming TLOU2 was given.

              • +4

                @lookingforTV:

lol amount of negative reviews from Metacritic certainly indicates that these people are not 'small few vocal people'.

That's called a review bomb. Those reviews came out before the game did, and are therefore irrelevant.

It's the most user reviewed game of all time. By a massive margin. Let's compare it to other popular games.

                Cyberpunk 2077 (PS4): 5k reviews
                FF7 Remake: 2.7k reviews
                Zelda BOTW (SW): 4.5k reviews
                GTA5 (PS4): 0.8k reviews
                Witcher 3 (PS4): 2k reviews
                TLOU2: 77k reviews

If that doesn't smell fishy to you, I don't know what is.

If you read the actual reviews for TLOU, 80% of them just say "It's bad."

Then MC added a minimum character limit to reviews, and the reviews changed to "IT'S BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD."

I tried playing first one in 2019 but couldn't get into it for some reason. I still bought part 2 on release in an ebay deal. Before starting the 2nd one I read about the story and watched recap videos on YouTube. Last of us part 2 is the best game I have played. The ending made me cry. After I finished the game I started it again. I have never done that before. Highly recommended.

      • +1

Missed your comment when I wrote mine. This sums it up well!

    • +1

I didn't. Watched a YouTube video to get the story… Tried playing the remade first one and Sri find it very unpleasant to play. Something about the controls / positioning of the character just puts me off…

Played the second one. Unbelievably well made and amazing game! Get it.

  • +3

Still waiting for the next gen patch. Surprised it's taking so long, kind of expecting them to just re-release the game on PS5 at this point.

    • +1

      Yes needs needs gen patch.

  • +1

Great price but might hold out for this to land in the Playstation Collection for PS Plus subscribers, with all the recent Xbox Game Pass additions maybe Sony will add to theirs.

  • +9

Really enjoyed this. Hell of a ride. Excellent price here.

  • +2

For a zombie game, Days Gone is miles better than this
TLOU2 is a ridiculously overrated game

    • +3

      Loved both.
      Completely different games.
TLOU2 was the first non open world game I played in a while… And the tube you run through can take some time to get used to… But you get some amazing cinematic scenes!

    • +2

Indeed, I loved playing Days Gone for the first time on Ps5! Hands down wiped the floor with TLOU 2. Couldn't wait to just finish it and get it over with.

      • +1

I first played it on PS5 (free with PS+ sub) & had next to no issues.
I hope they do a Days Gone 2, as the secret ending opens up the possibility of taking it in a further direction, but doubt it thanks to the reviews

  • +12

Don't understand why people are being negged for saying they like the game

    • +3

      Welcome to OzB

    • +5

Polarising game, but I LOVED the heck out of this title.

When people get attached to characters they’re naturally going to feel some ownership at having a say in the direction of their future journeys, but Naughty Dog told it how they wanted and that’s the way it should be.

Won Game of the Year 2020.

    • +5

There were massive sorry leaks prior to the release of this game, then massive outrage over the story. As a result there were a lot of people who played the game for the first time knowing what was going to happen, and acting angry all the way through. They basically ruined the game for themselves.

Those who didn't read the leaks (or were unaware of them) generally played through the game and enjoyed it, as they were not primed to hate it.

  • +1

Is there any like limited or special editions of this game? Or is it just this one edition? Thx

  • +1

Tried playing this at 30fps and just couldn't stomach it. Don't know what's taking them so long to update it for PS5.

    • +5

Have you seen a doc? I was able to play it without issue.

      • Because you primarily play games at 30fps. Most people that frequently play games at 60, 120 or 144fps cannot play games at 30 it is nauseating, especially in this type of game.

Play a game at 20-25fps, you will get a similar experience.

        • That sounds really limiting. I will just continue to play games at whatever they can. I wouldn’t play at anything less than 30 as that would be lagging and jittering.

          • @onlinepred: It honestly depends on the game also, for example a turn based RPG like Persona 5 feels fine at 30fps, but a third person cinematic action game like this or a first person shooter like Fallout 4 feel horrible at 30fps.

Whats especailly bad is if a game cant hold 30fps, a drop from 30 to 20 is a lot more notiecable than a drop from 60 to 50.

            • +1

@Vinodra: I play at around 60 on my PC, and whatever is supported on my ps5. I haven’t noticed a thing. Maybe I don’t play enough for it to be an issue?

      • Playing games at 30fps feels like they're running in slow motion, is disorienting and distracting. I'll put up with it for a game I really care about but in this case I can just not play it until it's fixed.

    • They're probably going to sell the remaster like the spiderman one.

    • I don't even know what fps my PS4 and old ass TV runs at. I loved this game.

  • +3

just seeing the cover increases my blood pressure

  • +6

the graphics are stunning but the story line feels badly written…

  • A superbly polished game. I just played through it 2 months ago. Very, very impressed at what Naughty Dog pulled off.

  • Query:

If I purchase this to play on PS5, and when the next gen patch comes, would I be getting that automatically and free?

    • The patch has not been officially announced yet.
