I wanted to get one of these things as a bedside thing, i like it coz it has actual android, it's not a dumb display as Google hub and all other clones of a cloned clone. Only problem i had with it is that the display is too bright even on the lowest brightness at night and it can't serve as a bedside smart clock, unfortunately :/

    • Could you put some sort of tinting film over it?

    • You really want it listening to you all night?

      • All night long (all night), All night (all night)
All night long (all night), All night (all night)
All night long (all night), All night (all night)
All night long! (all night), Ooh, yeah (all night)

      • where the sun's never shining go to you shell 😉

What is this and why have I never seen it before.. difference to an echo show 5 other than 4k screen?

  • 4k on 7" Alexa screen? Sounds like a marketing gimmick rather than being remotely useful.

In any case - cheaper on ebay (delivered) with pssaver voucher https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7inch-Alexa-Home-Smart-Display-p…

  • So let me get this straight - a direct equivalent to an echo show AND a Google home hub in the same unit, that runs actual Android.

And they're only asking $129 for it? What's the catch?

    • Its ad supported. Voodoo games helped with the setup.

      • Are you sure? Or are you confusing it with fire tablets. I found no mention of screen ads in any search for this device.

  • Put in car, use Google maps… Can touch? And not get a fine!

    Sold!

    • No GPS or other usual sensors.. i think

  • Android 7.1 Operating System

Only a five year old version of Android on this, that will likely never see a security patch or major version update.

    • It's also only got 16GB storage, so it's safe to assume it's limited to 512MB of RAM, and is essentially the same as a dirt cheap tablet that runs like crap.

      • supposed to have 2gb (duluck/clazio - spark)
but the reviews are very unfortunate, amazon ones seem very harsh

  • Got some horrible reviews

Just bought one.. have a need for a portable netflix unit / android device.

The Google Voice Assistance has some issues, as does the alexa control..
Both the Echoshow and Google Nest hub minis work far better,

But as a portable TV / netflix FHD device… that runs on batteries.. seems to work well..
With a dodgy remote, which can turn it on / off..

    Maximum wifi throughput was 93mbits/s

Hoping my andriod table tennis robot software will run on it…

but even then for $129.. a portable netflix device in full HD.. seems pretty reasonable..

no further uptakes than 7.1.2 OS were available (ie my device had their latest updates on it).
