Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor on Samsung Mobiles

I am very interested to know people's experience with the inscreen fingerprint sensor on Samsung mobiles. I used S20 FE for a few months and now using S21. Unfortunately, I found fingerprint sensors in both of them were unreliable and very slow. Really unhappy with the experience. The physical sensors were much more reliable and fast. Any views?

  • My experience with s10 was ok… as it worked… But there were times when i had to fully dry my fingers to unlock my phone. So sometimes i had to use pin instead.
However, ive upgraded my phone to s21+ and my experience with this is totally different. Its fast and reliable for me. Just love the new phone.

Someone said register one finger multiple time

    • sounds like a reasonable option

    • I have done this on my S10 5G. works a treat.

  • I have been using an s20+ for a year now and it has always been crappy.

I have registered my fingers multiple times and it has always been super unreliable for me.

  • Note 10+ here, works about less than half the time. I find it quicker to use a pin instead. And I registered multiple times but a few months ago nothing recognised and I had to delete and reset.

    • Weird, no issues with my Note 10+

Did you install an after market screen protector? I still have the factory plastic one on.

Did you ensure you pressed your fingers in lots of different angles to capture as much area as possible?

Nope, still has the protector it came in. There's also a dead pixel on the left side which really bugs me 😭

And Yup, lots of different angles. Maybe pregnancy cha ged my fingerprints 😂

    Really unhappy with the experience

Doesn't take much to upset you eh :)
I've always been happy with a pin #… never fails.

  • Wife went from s10 (unreliable, 60% success rate maybe) to S21 ultra and the difference is H-U-G-E. That's was she said. It works every time now for her screwed up thumb. I also have a S21 and it works 99% of the time, no difference with my old s9 with the standard scanner.

We also own a Galaxy Tab S6 which is a little bit different under screen fingerprint scanner, there is a green light that turns on. That one is by far the crappiest of all at a success rate of around 1%.

    • may be the thumb needs to be 'screwed up' for it to work well

  • With All my In-Display Fingerprint scans, I always double enrol the fingerprint.

the device supports up to 4 fingerprint scans, found it to be more accurate. Only problem I find is wet hands and trying scan.

  • I went from Huawei p20 pro to now note 20 ultra.

My opinion is the Samsung fingerprint sucks big time. I do register my thumb three times and every now and then I re register it too. The response times are a little slow, I often have to try multiple times and every now and then it doesn't work altogether.

It does work, it just doesn't work anywhere near as well as what I got used to for my huawei

  • Unreliable and slow just like yours OP. I have a base s20 coming from an s9+ with both iris scan and a back fingerprint sensor this 'upgrade' felt like a downgrade for me. I would prefer a hole in the back with the old fingerprint sensors. I have registered the same finger multiple times on the s20 but it is still terrible for me.
