It's not about the hardware…it's their software put me off.

    • +2

It can be used with Home Assistant

      • ☝️ this
The broadlink app is crap but home assistant is why you buy it

      • What integration/addon does it use? Any flashing required?

        • Home Assistant has first class Broadlink integration, meaning once you connect the device to your network Home Assistant can auto-detect simplifying the setup process.
No flashing or modification of the Broadlink hub what so ever.

It's also "Local Polling" which means it doesn't need to use Broadlink's cloud services at all. Once setup you can probably completely block it from the internet (unless you're using with Google/Amazon).

    • Well said.

    • I have had no issues with the current Broadlink -Universal TV Remote app. Mostly using it with my Air-con and bedroom fan.

Though using the previous Broadlink e-control app was horrendous.

List of Android apps here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=BroadLink

  • doing my reserach, seems like this verison doesn't support 315 mhz IR the aliexpress version does. Is that a deal breaker for newer tech?

  • Will these learn from a RF remote?
How can I work out what frequency RF my devices use?
    Thanks

    • +1

Yes you can learn RF signals.

Usually there will be a sticker or print on or inside the remote's battery compartment. If not the device itself should have an RF frequency sticker or label.
Otherwise the RF frequency your devices use you can often be found quite easily using google or your favourite search engine, using the model name and keywords like manual or specification.

Most local RF devices will adhere to Australian RF laws thus using the standardised RF range, though grey imported devices may sit outside this.

  • Does this support 4MZ IR remotes? That would be handy to control my Rinnai Avenger gas heater from outside.

  • Does the app allow one to pre-program a sequence of events with multiple devices, as well as short time delays?

I have a Logitech harmony hub, and can't wait to ditch it due to its ridiculous limitation of only doing "one event" at a time. "Wanna do something else? Cool, but first I'll turn off that first device"
Ended up going down a rabbit hole of fake "off" buttons to avoid this crap, but Logitech stand by that silly decision despite hundreds of criticisms on their forums..

All I want to do is be able to say "hey google, turn on the footy". TV on, foxtel on, delay 3sec, ch504
Sounds easy, but HH makes it near on impossible. Hoping this is more straight forward

  • Logitech have just announced they are going to stop making Harmony remotes, so this might provide an alternative.
