It's priceless, so many keep it as a draft listing.

Make sure you check your account as for the last 2 of these promos (since being move to managed payments) the full fees got charged for every sale and I had to spend 15-20min each time on the chat to get them credited. Although if your on managed payments you only pay $1.30 max including payments fees (the old paypal 2.4% is included) so its quite good.

    • +3

Ive spent in total 4 hours over chat between 5-6 different days because of this issue. This "technical glitch" been around for months but they dont seem too fussed to fix it (because of the fees they are actually keeping from customers who may not be checking). Very few customer support folks are good but many dont even read into the issue, even when you keep records of your previous transcripts, they try and fob u off saying its not valid or transfer you between multiple people. My advice is when they ask for feedback in a message they send after chat, do it, as I was then contacted via phone by someone in ebay locally who wanted to understand why I rated so low.
Also take screenshots of the offer when you accept which shows date/time.

      • +1

I totally believe you have wasted 4 hours, as your experience seems to be the norm rather than the exception.

I wonder if it may be easier to just dispute the overcharge with your credit card provider??

        • They take the fee from your sale so they wont transfer you the whole amount via their new managed payments system.

      • Yes me too they just don’t seem to take any action to fix the problem, I too have reported it in feedback etc many times.

I wonder if reporting that to fair trading or similar would help?

    • +2

Yes. I listed one item and the promotion never applied. Ebay charged 13.4% for sellings wihch is quite high. I spoke to the support who said their management is aware of thes issues as many sellers complians it.

      • Well I hope they reversed it?

    • Yabadabadoo, what is managed payments? I would like to be able to pay a maximum of $1.30 for items sold.

    • +1

Make sure you check your account …….. full fees got charged

      Ditto……salient advice.

I've sold 14 items in recent months on a free selling promos. Every single sale had to have the selling fees manually reversed via eBay support.

I'd recommend people bookmark this link and monitor their FVFs carefully after every sale.

    • Ive been trying since january to get $110 refunded for incorrect fee charged due the promo not correctly applying. Tried 6-7 times through chat. Each time they say its being looked at and to expect an email but no further information. Hours of my time and its still not resolved. I refuse to sell on ebay now

  • +7

Go the same email but never again.

Last time I got this I had to spend 30 minutes on eBay online support to get my FVF back for every item sold. Their new payment system is stuffed. Waste of bloody time.

Luckily I had a screen capture of accepted offer that I could upload to them as evidence because their system showed nothing.

    • Why did you upvote the deal then?

      • Because it's the only way to use eBay these days. I was just sharing a recent experience as a PSA.

  • +3

    Targated.

Unfortunately, this promotional offer is by invitation only.

    • +2

I got "Unfortunately, you can no longer sign up for this promotional offer because it has expired."

      • I got "Unfortunately, your ability to list or edit Good Till Cancelled listings has been suspended as you have not yet set up Managed Payments" lol

      • @CompulsiveOzB That message comes up if you did not get the offer.

  • +1

such a big company but ebay promo system is sucks.
if you have multiple offers running at the same time, when you list item the system will apply random offer to it. (could be the first one you get, but sometimes not the best).
anyone know how to deal with this apart of chatting and complaining to ebay?

    • Yeah - only able to chat and complain. Last time I got 10% back on my sales as a credit, rather than the better "zero fees" offer - very annoying as I ended up with multiple credit codes that of course could only be used on separate purchases

      • YMMV but i remember long ago i had the same situation, $1 fee and get back credit offers.
listed few, went into get back but lucky i noticed it then got into the chat.
they said they put note so my listing will not get charged $1 if sold.
        weeks later.
        items sold.

$1 fees AND i got the credit as well :D i guess they cant stop the system to generate the vouchers

        • Yeah but the credits take forever at the moment. I go through this regularly with my non-store personal account.

ATM, I have free FVF, 10% back and no listing fees for the items.
          https://ibb.co/vdfbpQG

My next sale should get no fvf, 10% back, but won't. I'll have to chat and request it; credit comes in a month later at minimum for me.

At the moment I am several hundred $ in credit anyway, so it wont matter, the fees they are going to take now are the credit from last round.

          • @MorriJ: nope i got the credits like 1 day after i marked the item as shipped.
through email congrats on your sale see your voucher bla bla bla

    • +1

Nope, not even support can manage it. Their only suggestion is to activate only one offer at a time, which in my experience does work though the promo counters rarely work properly.

  • Another one who had to chat for 15-20min to eBay every time I sold an item on this promo last time. It randomly applied an old 10% back as vouchers so getting to double dip offers was the only reason I didn’t take all the damn listings down.

  • Unfortunately, you can no longer sign up for this promotional offer because it has expired.

    • +1

That message comes up if you did not get the offer.

  • Is it possible to sell something on ebay for “pickup only”?

I wouldn’t mind paying some ebay fees if it meant i will reach a wider audience than just FB Marketplace and Gumtree.

    • yes

      • What if they pay and pull a “oh sorry bro I thought this was going to be sent by mail, can you send it bro?”

        • You make your item 'pickup only". There will be no confusion as there will be no postage option.

        • Had one dude try to pull that on me, I reminded him item was listed as pick-up only, so his options were to either pickup (no happening as he was interstate) or cancel.

He cancelled and I relisted the item.

  • Does it stack with the 10% voucher offer? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/618652

    • Yep it'll stack fine.

    • Yep, I've recently sold 14 items on free listing promos and have accumulated another 14x 10% vouchers. Win win.

      • I have both promotions active but when I created the listing I could only see the 10% voucher promo is used. Will they still stack?

        • So the $1 listing promo did not deduct a 1 from the available 5?

          • @ash2000: An 1 is deducted from 10% voucher promo but not the $1 FVF prmotion. Did you have both deducted from the same listing?

            • +1

@Hank Hsieh: Ok that is quite normal at the moment as eBay have confirmed there is an error in their system that handles the promo counter.

Did you have both deducted from the same listing?

No. Only the 10% deducts for me too. The other promo counters (for FVF) have not moved.

Once the item sells, you'll almost certainly need to get on the chat service with eBay and request a reversal of fees. It's annoying , but it will be honoured without issue.

  • Damnit, they should offer this to me because the last item I sold was not paid for and I had to go through a damn non-paying buyer claim.

  • $1 fee to ebay but remember you still need to pay paypal fees

    • If you use managed payments, all you pay is $1.30 fees, everything else is covered from what I understand. That's what's happened recently for my $0 FVF sales via Gumtree.

      • Most of the time, we would offer PayPal option when selling, so PayPal fee still cannot be avoided I thought?
I normally prefer to pay with PayPal for eBay items so I imagine other people would prefer that too?

        • If you use managed payments then PayPal is not an option for selling anymore, they pay you via Adyen every day that an amount is outstanding. It seems as though the payment fee is only $0.30 for managed payments and the extra 3% is covered under these promos, that's my experience at least so far.

          • @doweyy: huh really? so the new method is much better? flat $1.30 fee ? too good to be true okay i will check later

            • +1

@CyberMurning: Yep much better if you have a promotion. If you have a promo for $0 FVF the only thing you pay is $0.30 for a payment fee or something, there's no 3 or 4% fee charged and it's included in the promotion. That's my experience so far on all my sales.

              • @doweyy: So just to be clear here, what are your buyers using to pay you? You'd think most people would still want to pay with PayPal. I'm thinking items would take longer to sell on average if you didn't offer it.

Anyway, wish I knew about this earlier, as I've been selling things lately via the Gumtree promo but still paying PayPal fees.

                • +1

@MiscOzB: I couldn’t tell you unfortunately, but all payment methods are still open for buyers to make payments with, it’s just the seller side that has seemingly changed to Adyen for payouts and not PayPal.

The following buyer payment methods are available on a listing of mine currently:

PayPal, Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard, Amex.

                  • @doweyy: Looked into it, and turns out I can't register for it yet anyway as I still haven't been notified that I can register.

    • +1

eBay has ended their partnership with PayPal. It’s all managed internally by eBay now.

      • "eBay has ended their partnership with PayPal" FYI eBay owns PayPal, one reason for the managed payments systems is so that they can direct debit your actual Bank account for any unpaid fees in the future rather than your PayPal account

        • +1

Not anymore ebay no longer owns PayPal

        • As what SuperBoi said. eBay and PayPal have not been the same company for many many years.

      • Indeed, you can no longer sell without registering for the 'ebay payment system'.

        • weird i didnt change anything since 5 years ago and 2 days ago i can still list items
edit maybe because i always have "pay with paypal ticked ?"

          • @CyberMurning: Interesting. Some of my accounts I've changed over, for others they sent me an email last week saying I can no longer sell unless I change over.

        • Incorrect. I just sold something 2 days ago, and still on the od PayPal system. I am not on the eBay payment system yet.

Maybe they are slowly getting account holders to switch

  • +1

has anyone who has had the credit applied, how do you actually get the money back?

I had previous listings with the $1 offer but always pay the full amount in fees, chat to Ebay live chat and they say it will be refunded, but I am yet to actually see anything come through.

    • Look at your transactions page, which for some still comes under payments in your account section. Chat to them time and time again if not been refunded and provide them the previous chat transcript numbers. Good luck.

      • +1

Gone are the good old days when you were able to call in.

        • Everyone is working from home, so I guess they had little option to cancel the phone service.

The chat app does automatically send you a copy of the conversation transcript which can be very useful if having to appeal something that another support member has told you.

    • +1

but I am yet to actually see anything come through.

This should happen immediately whilst you are chatting with them. I've done it 14 times, and it's always appear immediately whilst I've still been on the chat page.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/mes/transactionlist

  • Those PS5 scalpers be like :) Yessss

    • May be it will give them an incentive to sell cheaper with no/low selling cost ;-)

      • Ok

I was rather annoyed yesterday as I received an unsolicited call from an eBay rep basically demanding why I haven’t switched over from PayPal yet. It didn’t seem like a scam as he called from 02 9293 7600 but I didn’t appreciate the attitude. Wish there was a good alternative to evilBay.

    • Wish there was a good alternative to evilBay.

      Facebook Marketplace

And yes, I have been harrashed almost every 3rd day with emails from them threatening to suspend my account/remove ability to list and amend listing if I don't register for Managed Payments.

    • +2

I sell occasionally on ebay and have never been notified about managed payments

      • +1

Same here, have sold many things and still actively sell stuff now, but still haven't been notified. Judging by this thread, seems we're among the rare few.

  • Is the dispute process on managed payments any good?
I noticed some of my paypal payments for ebay purchases goes directly to ebay instead of the seller so you no longer know the seller's paypal details.
How would paypal disputes work? since you are now in dispute with ebay instead of the seller.

    • Yeah I am wondering about that too. Would you still get seller's protection of some sort?

  • I didn't get targeted

So I had 3 3 thing up for sale on ebay and I went and cancelled them

    • Use the Gumtree/eBay promo. Everyone eligible. 2 per month. List two in the next few days, then another on Saturday (1st).

  • +1

Tried using the gumtree/eBay offer. Since February they never take account I was using the gumtree to eBay list 2 items for free per month promo.

I've raised many a chat sessions to them and they have noted it will be credited after 20 business days.

After the 20 business days, after launching another chat session, I've had the line they will have the case escalated to a higher level support and to be patient. Unfortunately there is nothing they can do from their end.

I'm still waiting credits for my January and February invoice.

I've given up on getting the credits as they usually take forever to get thru a consultant and also worst they take ages to respond.

On another note, they also been sending me emails to join manage payments.

They first will restrict your account from listing any new items, then if you don't answer after a particular date, they will restrict your account from being to revise current listings. If you still don't reply, they will cancel your existing listings.

  • +2

Top tip Thursday: Make sure that you take screenshots of every eBay promo after activating them cos they tend to just magically disappear once the promo period ends.

    Kbye.

    • +1

Agree you’ll need this when making a complaint.

  • I’ve accepted the deal but it doesn’t show on my account, I’m thinking that it’s because I have another offer right now getting me 10% as a voucher promo enabled already. The FvF promo starts on the 14th for me, is it meant to show on my seller dashboard before then or will it show when it starts? Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

    • +1

It's back again under a different offer. The next one starts on 14/5 and therefore will show in your account after that date as active :)

Nothing to do with the 10% voucher, just isn't showing because it's not "live" yet.

      • awesome, just kinda panicked a bit since its the first time i accepted another offer alongside it and thought i blew it. Thanks for the clarification!

  • +1

eBay keeps denying me payment when i have stacked this plus the 10% voucher for every sale fee… What's the best way to talk to support to make them honor both when they are in my ebay account

    • Same here no manual fee credits being allowed since activating the 10% voucher promo. Apparently that offer will override and invalidate any other promo and there's nothing they can do about it.

  • Anyone been charged fees despite having this active when listing?
I feel this happens with eBay often - if you don't follow it up you lose hundreds

    • Their promo system is completely messed up and has been the case since managed payments came in. Everyone who has signed up for managed payments will get charged the fees automatically. The promos only actually appear to work properly if you're still accepting PayPal. So make sure you take screenshots and keep track of the promos and their corresponding item numbers. Then once an item sells you can get on help chat and get the fees refunded.

      • The promos only actually appear to work properly if you're still accepting PayPal.

Doesn't work, after listing the counter stays at 0/5 used.

        • Yeah says that sometimes but it should work if you haven't signed up to managed payments just yet. Unlike with managed payments the fees are not taken out straight away so they actually should show up in your account as before so you can check and contact help chat if there are any discrepancies. With managed payments fees are taken out automatically and you have to go into their transactions page to see what fees are charged so can catch people out if they are not keeping track of things.

  • Is this deal still running?

    • +1

if you get email from ebay, then yeah it is running for you. and only you

      • +1

Yes. Just got an email for it this morning.
