Can we gather useful data (eg, caller-ID) & report this RoboCall SCAMMER...?

Has any1 else been getting RoboCalls,
[on behalf of Amazon OR re: Renewing
your Amazon A/C, [long] before it expires]…?

If so, can we, eg, crowdsource the various
caller IDs & send them off to (somewhere)
to help shut down this scammer?

If so:

If you get such calls, maybe leave a Reply,
(below) with the caller ID, etc. & approx time of
call, in case a list of such data could be
helpful to someone, in a position to make it stop,
for all of us.

If we get enough replies, I'll send this thread
off to Amazon (or whoever can follow it up), &
hope it goes away, someday soon.

—- What we've gleaned from a few of our incoming calls:

(Logged by our phone OR Responded to,
after answering, ie, by the touch of "1"
=> switch to a human)

Sounds like a RoboCall (w/ synthesized voice)

[apparently from [Optus] mobile # "042…"]

It suggests it's time to renew our Amazon Prime a/c, &
- if their system hears a touch-tone "1" - you'll
be put through to a person, presumably be scammed.

The initial "pitch" has both Renewal-Date & -Fee wrong
(a (lower than expected) Fee of: $39.99, from memory)

Of course, if you are put through to a person, they don't
know your name, etc.

[From the accent of the human I was put through to,
it could be one of those Nigerian scamming co.'s]

I've seen a fairly large number of Attempts to ring us;
most have gone unanswered (by us) for var. reasons.

Calls appear to be coming from a list of different [Optus]
mobile numbers [beginning with 042…]

A call-back (from our side) results in:
. "The person you are calling is not available…."
and an option to leave a message.

(When their call goes unanswered,
it ReTries several times, fr same #)

If we get another call, I may try to play the fool (once),
if I can be put through to a human, to learn
How the Scam works.

    Yes.

    ok.

    sure.

    Next in line please.

Can't believe you're still typing on a GameBoy 160×144 screen in 2021. But no, this opens it up for malicious abuse.

I can hardly understand anything I just read

      This OP's modus operandi.

I'm still surprise with OP's past, s/he still hasn't gone to ACA.

      • Maybe ACA have call or voice screening. lol

I read this as a poem.

they are spoofing innocent people's mobile numbers, end of story

    What'cha think?

It's being going on for ages, don't waste your time - and ours.

The calls are coming from outside Australia via VOIP and there's SFA that can currently be done about it.

    This post is a scam.

    Can
    we
    crowdsource
    a
    way
    to
    tech
    OP
    how
    to
    format
    a
    post

      I
      think
      your
      word
      wrap
      works
      perfectly
      on
      a
      1
      9
      8
      0
      s
      pager
      .

      • My theory is IVI's typing up each post up on a 1990s Palm PDA with a resolution of 160x160 and no word wrapping, so he keeps having to go to a new line at the end of each sentence in order for the text to remain on-screen.

I think we got it all WRONG. 😂

OP, writes like one would speak using ham radio, Over.

It may explain the past topics covered by OP, with other like minded amateur radio enthusiasts.

          • @SF3: That's a pretty compelling theory there. IVI does have that air of an adenoidal anorak who toils in obscurity with his niche interests.

And just like on his Ham Radio broadcasts, no one's receiving his transmissions on OzBargain either…

    Amazon ??????
they deal with scam callers now? awesome

No, we are stuck with you.

    Am I reading a poem?

We all get robo calls all the time. Just don't answer blocked or unknown numbers. If it was important they would leave a message. If they don't leave a message then 99 times out of 100 it was just a robo call anyway.

    • These are neither blocked nor hidden numbers

      • +3

If it's a number you recognise from your contacts list then answer it, it will be someone you know who wants to talk to you.

        • +3

It's IVI. Imagine a scammer talking to IVI…..they would hang up on him.

  • OP's previous posts layout also SUCK….

    • In OP's lingo sux.

  • At least we have been spared sermons about Molten Salt Reactors.

  • +3

I have always enjoyed bargain posts written in iambic pentameter.

  • Heh I just got one of these Robo amazon calls today.

It's good that you (OP) are bringing awareness to these scams, but your writing is counter productive and it's hard to take you seriously.
Are you making these post to actually bring awareness to all, or posting just for yourself to read?

The OP is using steganography to hide messages in illegible rants. He’s calling in air strikes over China and we are all none the wiser.

  • There are websites like
    https://www.reverseaustralia.com/
    To report
    Spam calls.

  • NO… your only option is to block, and report.
Extreme measures are for you to obtain a completely new number

  • I have an advance technical solution : hang up as soon as you hear it .

For them even if a number is blocked they can replicate it as many times as they please in short time .

  • I've had increasing problems with spam phone calls for a year or two. I recently installed the Google phone and SMS apps and it has helped a lot, and does as you suggest - when you report a spam call or SMS it adds the number to it's database and automatically blocks it for other users of the apps.

  • Hey what???

And what to do with all the other phone numbers they use to avoid tracking?

    Hohum

  • I have had that call twice in two days in a row. The second was quite abusive before hanging up on me. Seriously am thinking the Amazon Prime can be unethical to deal with even if it's not a scam/spam/ham.

  • If you have a Samsung phone - it has Hiya. If you don't then you can download it in the Google Play store.

If you have been called by private numbers, then just don't answer, simple.
