  • Not again…

  • Is anyone actually going to fall for this shit again? Not likely…

Negged simply due to the fact that it has no brand (You can't tell me that 'Tancell' is a brand), no other reasons :S

    • Lets try to get this deal to the all time highest amount of negs lol
      edit

      Groupon says 1500 sold out
it cud be that it is actually sold out or Groupon has turned off the deal

  • What brand is tancell and what happened last time?

  • +1

Just so everybody knows, there is no 2tb portable hard drive and this is a scam that'll hopefully get taken down.

    • Well it doesn't mention it was a 2.5" drive so it might a 3.5" HDD hold by a Giant Hand … lol …

      • The hdd doesnt use a power adaptor so it is a portable drive. THerefore it is 2.5"

    DO NOT PURCHASE!

  • Apparently the domain was registered with a legit ABN

Unfortunately, not only have they changed address every year, they've stopped registering for GST two years ago.

    Yeah nah.

I believe this deal was on several days ago on Spreets for $69, hence cheaper, which can be found on the OzBargain post http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61972, please note the deal did not go ahead, with only 18 orders out of the 20 required, or it might have been pulled.

I think this is highly suspect, especially if the Groupon site is using the brand name Tancell, when it could in fact be Tancel. Just shows that they didn't put much thought into preparing the deal.

Further, a quick google shows that it only seems to appear on group buying sites, not a good indication. If its not on the first page of google results, I generally don't bother looking further. Nor can I find it on Amazon or Newegg.

    • "BACK UP Computer Files with a Tancel 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive (USB 3.0) for Just $69 - Including Delivery! Valued at $150! Don’t Lose Your Files to a Computer Demon"

"$79 2TB Portable External USB Hard Drive or $149 for Two, Delivered Nationwide ($249 Value)"

It suddenly gained $100 value from one website to the other, same product…

      • welcome to the wonderful world of dubious group buy value claims

    • it was closed early

Hey guys - You are linking to an irrelevant deal (the Seagate one)

THIS one is the one with the info

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61972

    • +1

Sorry, the seagate 'deal' is still relevant though, just not the one I was looking for, thanks.

  • I don't believe 2TB portable even exist…neg this for sure!

  • As everyone has stated already: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61321

Thinking just logically - This is $79 for a 2TB USB 3.0 Portable HDD.
You can't even get a standard 2TB HDD for anywhere near that price at the moment.
Furthermore, it comes from a website (http://karno.myshopify.com/) that seems suspicious to begin with.
They make claims like they can afford these prices due to huge bulk buying (3000+), but the deal is already active with only 91 people buying.
Lastly, their five weeks delivery period gives them enough time to make away with your cash if they can, before you can do anything about it.

      • Then you read the About Us page

Canberra…Brisbane….all the same, or maybe its just the head office doesn't take the calls :)

  • too GOOD to be TRUE

  • To help neg the deal, I need to post a comment. Nothing else to say except:

DO NOT BUYDO NOT BUYDO NOT BUYDO NOT BUY

  • I can't believe they've sold 102 units of this already…

    • As at 5:15am Sydney time, they're up to nearly 200.

On the plus side, we're getting to see that all the group buying websites do absolutely no due diligence whatsoever. Shame on you, Groupon…

  • thought it sounded too good to be true

  • The fact that Karno are trying this on at a second group buying website after it got pulled at Spreets shows, in my opinion, that they're actively intending to deceive.

  • DO NOT BUY DO NOT BUY.

Don't even bother taking the risk. It's gonna burn.

  • Looks like a WD MyPassport.

  • wtf there has already been "281 Bought!". Lots of people are going to get ripped off.

  • +2

    Just some investigation work -

MJ TEMPLIN PTY LTD has been deregistered as of 11 December 2011.

    http://www.search.asic.gov.au/cgi-bin/gns030c?acn=120_632_07…

Also, their registration for GST has been cancelled.

These group buying sites must be really struggling to want to earn interest on our money.

  • I like it how the only +ve for this deal is the OP. Why do people do that anyways?

    • The last time I posted a deal, it was done for me automatically. But I notice that some people post deals and they are able not to positive vote themselves, so I don't know what's going on there.

      • Yea, I have noticed some auto and some not too, not sure what it is.

      • .

    • When you post a deal the system automatically puts a positive vote by you.

      • unless you are a rep for the company…

        • Ok, I just noticed that some people do and others don't so I thought it was a choice thing. I'm new here and have yet to post a good deal, I never seem to find them before someone else does lol
          Thanks for the info :)

I am more disappointed at Groupon than anything else, this is a known con! I hope they get the bad press they now deserve and the regulators wake up and sort this entire business model out!

  • No such thing as 2tb 2.5" hdd. These are probably smaller size rejects from the recent floods.

  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. In this case, it definitely is.

  • Almost 900 sold now. Maybe it is legit - both Spreets and Groupon mess up - is that very likely?

    • No..Yes..

      "viggenn

      2TB 2.5" drives don't exist. This is a scam 100%

      DON'T FALL FOR THIS"

  • can't believe 700+ bought into this!

  • 2TB 2.5" drives don't exist. This is a scam 100%

    DON'T FALL FOR THIS

  • Almost 1000 sold now.

  • Can we get a forum thread for this going?
I'd still be interested on any developments, if anyone has bought.

    1000+ people have been scammed.

Anyone who uses the WOT addon for Firefox or Chrome go to https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/karno.myshopify.com and neg this site so that others can know to avoid it.

  • Before hard drives, information was stored inside the minds of mimes, before people realised this made retrieving the material somewhat problematic. Save information easily with today’s Groupon: $79 for a portable external USB hard drive with 2TB memory or $149 for two, delivered nationwide ($249 value).

Uhhhhh. Interesting description. Whole lotta hurt coming outta this 'deal'.

    • I was just about to post that too… what idiot allowed an item with a description like that to be posted on a popular site?!

  • +1

Has anyone contacted Groupon to let them know? I tried calling the number on their website but get a message saying they're experiencing a higher than normal call volume and to wait. Gave up after 10 minutes

    • +2

still on the phone been on for about 30 minutes

a few people have posted on there facebook page no reply.

      • good on you, let us know what they say

i didnt want to get a big phone bill for the sake of making them aware of their mistake. doubt they would compensate me lol

        • Still on the phone, I am not doing it for groupon, want to stop people from getting screwed over

  • Not that it's as big a deal as the fact that this product doesn't exist, but the warranty terms are also illegal. The seller has to provide statutory warranty for a 'reasonable period' in which you'd expect the device to operate. 7 days is not 'reasonable.

Anyway, my guess would be if they do send you something (doubtful), you might get sent a 500gb drive that's been fake formatted to show up as 2TB. Then when you try and write more than 500gb to it, things go pear shaped. Actually probably a 200gb drive.

  • ROFL

  • ::FAKE::
There is no 2TB 2.5" hardrives
1000+ people are going to be sorely disappointed
These new groups purchase sites should qualify there Advertisers better.

  • Why are these still allowed to be posted?

  • got thru after 1 hour on hold the lady was nice she will pass what I told her on to her manager about this… only time will tell.

    • nice, so that's where the picture came from. what is the kona? is it from a scam on another group buy site?

  • Yeah its back up on spreets, and they've taken down the size of the HDD. I just noticed that Groupon don't have the size of the HDD on their website. Maybe the reason Spreets took it down in the first place was because the size was incorrect (ie: non-existent 2.5" drive)?

Can anyone confirm the actual size of the HDD on Groupon?

    • They think it is a 2.5" when I talked to the rep

still has Other features that may impress you are its 2.5 SATA drive & Impressive 2.5 SATA drive!

      • I just got off the phone to a Groupon rep and they confirmed with me that the HDD that they are selling is roughly 11cm by 8cm. That's definitely not 2.5", right?

        • from spreets site
It’s really not as hard as you may think. Actually if you get your hands on this impressive device it’s pretty easy. The Tancel Hard Drive is not only small (13cm x 1.2cm x 7.4cm) and light (103.5g) but is also made from high-quality aluminium (which means it’ll dispose of heat like nobody’s business) and equipped with a powerful fan (so it’s nice and quiet). Not to mention that it supports Windows, has a USB 3.0 interface and super speed (5GBPS and 1- GBPS), so transferring all of your files will be a whizz.

  • i also emailed groupon. the lady said she will "pass it on to her supervisor"

i also requested a refund for an Easymeals groupon I purchased… The company said they were understaffed and someone will call me back within 3 weeks to take my order! And I'm "at the end of a long line" , they are going to fill the regular - priced orders 1st… And she's not sure when I will receive my delivery.

    I hate groupon….

  • Sold out… easy 100k…

    • NO, THEY DID NOT SELL OUT!!! Groupon pulled the deal, because we notified them. I bet anything they will be refunding money to the suckers who purchased the groupon… Because, at one minute they had 800 sold, then i emailed them, they said they will research it, and then 30 minutes later, the deal is "sold out" with "1,500 sold"…

They said it's sold out to avoid looking like idiots. They pulled the deal, just like spreets

      • You are wrong, I have been watching it tick up and over 1000 towards 1500 all day.

Maybe they did pull it, I hope they did, but the sales have definately been ticking over from 1000 - 1500 for a while now.

        • i'm curious, how can we know if it really was pulled?

        • This is off there facebook page about 20 minutes ago.
"thanks for your concern. The product we are featuring is a different size to the one featured in the link."
the link is pointing to the spreets deal

        • +1

Lol so 200gb instead of 2tb?..

        • "thanks for your concern. Our product is different to the one listed, it is not 2.5'' in size - it's 1.2cm by 11.2cm by 8.1cm"

          where spreets deals say 13cm x 1.2cm x 7.4cm

also the reason spreets closed the earlier deal was a problem with the addresses not being sent thru.

  • why is the number sold going down?

  • Fark, Spreets have it up too

    http://spreets.com.au/deal/Sydney/online/16855/back-up-compu…

if it's too good to be true, it is
and this is WAAAY too good to be true,

Firstly, the website states 'portable' and shows a picture of a small drive, looking smaller than a hand….
    which implies portable, USB powered

you can't buy 2.5" 2TB SINGLE drives yet (they max out at 1.5TB currently)

so, if it's NOT a scam, you're getting a 2TB, 3.5" mains powered desktop drive, of a different style to the main picture, and at around 20 bucks less than you'd pay from officeworks

    • 2 hours 4 min ago this was posted

  • .

  • .

  • So what ended up happening with this deal/scam? Did people get a refund?

    • +1

Not sure but the spreets one ended with this

      Dear Spreeter,

Thank you for your recent purchase of "Tancel 2TB Desktop External
Hard Drive (USB 3.0) for Just $79 - Including Delivery! Valued at
$299! Don't Lose Your Files to a Computer Demon"

Unfortunately we have been advised by the manufacturer that due
to issues beyond our control they cannot confirm delivery of the
product within 28 days as specified. As a result we are today
refunding you the full $79 for each unit purchased. These funds
should clear with you mid next week.

Rather than have you wait indefinitely for a delivery, Spreets
will continue to liaise with the manufacturer as to when stock
will become available. When we can confirm a specific date we will
likely run a future deal with this product, so be sure to keep
your eyes on Spreets for this and similar deals.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope you understand
this is a unique situation. We look forward to providing you more
      great deals in future.

      Regards,
      The Spreets Team
