  • Just curious these should work with online shopping right including Ali and eBay?

  • They work at most places where Mastercard is accepted. I think eBay was fine. Some places haven't worked for me though, eg gas station, buying giftcards at online stores, menulog. YMMV

    • Can they be used as debit / EFTPOS cards, i.e. at ALDI in order to avoid the surcharge on credit transactions?

      • No you must select credit

      • No, but it's 0.5% anyway, gives you a 1.7% saving

  • +2

The last deal was much better.

    • +1

Only if there was available stock. They could be 50% off for all I care, but with no stock, you might as well not bother.

      • +1

I manage to get some so it wasnt that bad

        • Agree. These were definitely available during the previous generous offer.

    • More like unobtainable deal that was

  • +2

still no $250 at my local coles since the last 15% offer

    • +1

i don't think i've ever seen $250 at my local coles. it's always chock full of $50 cards only when the promo is for $100 and over.

this deal is already a few days old. i would be sueprised if there's any stock left if there were any in the first place.

      • You may need to contact the customer desk. Some stores keep such stock at customer desk

  • +3

wont buying these drive up your bonus target spends though>?

    • +1

      Exactly

    • +2

i bought few $100 .. and my flybuys offer shot up to anywhere from $150-$220 spend for minimal bonus

      • mine is … they dont even bother to offer me anything lol

    • I don't scan my flybuys while getting these gift cards/mastercard. Loss of points is very small compared to loss of offers

      • I wonder how long it takes for them to "reset" the min spend. I scanned my FB card during the last offer when I picked up 4 x $250 GC and the bonus points offers now are all for min $200 spend >.<

  • +4

This purchase won't be qualify for bonus points from Coles

  • +2

Why I can't see this in this week catalogue??

  • Does the purchase quality for cookware credits?

    • Of course not.

  • So it's around 4.3% off, I may grab some if it's in stock while shopping, not worth hunting like last time.

  • Plenty available at Coles innaloo wa

  • Where was this advertised? Is it in-store at Coles? or somewhere online?

    • +1

It seems to be in NSW stores, not sure if it is in other states. I will buy 1 to test and report back tmr.

I just got a tampered card at Coles. The annoying thing is you can't tell if the card has been tampered or not with this new packaging. So you need to open the card right away or better before buying to make sure the card is inside AND the card ID MUST match the last 11 digits of the barcode

The shit part is Coles Prepaid card is not even open 24h so I can't even block the card until Monday.

If you got the tampered card, call Coles Prepaid card on 1300 095 072 and ask them to block the card, give them the card ID which is the last 11 digits of the barcode. Be aware that you can't even call them on weekend or after hour.

I told Coles staff to check the shelf and found a 2nd tampered card, staff don't even know how to tell because the card is inside the packaging but the card lD is not the one for that packaging which means it has been swapped.

    • Sorry for the mistake in my comment. The card ID is the last 11-digit of the packaging barcode.

For this exact reason, Coles Chadstone keeps all mastercards at customer desk. You have to go to them to get it. They don't keep it on shelf.

      • oh, that's why I don't see any cards on the shelf in Coles Chadstone and I thought they don't even bother to stock them. They don't even have any notice on the shelf about asking at the Customer Service desk.

    • I had the same thing happen with this card. I purchased five $100 cards in October 2019. None of them worked. I purchased them at a manned register and neither I nor the operator noticed any problems with them. After one did not work, I opened the cardboard packets and checked the balances of the rest. In fact, inside some of them had VISA cards, one was a $50 Mastercard and all had been spent. Before I opened them I checked the outside and they did not look like they had been tampered with. I googled a lot and found this is not uncommon and people take the cards from the inside and substitute something else and then when you purchase the card the one in their possession is activated. First, I went to 2 Coles stores and they were aware of other cases. I then rang Coles Financial Services and was told to email them photos of the cards, cardboard cases, and receipts. Fortunately, they credited me with the face value of the cards. Since then I have looked at many physical gift cards and the ones where the card is not sealed up inside are probably safer. Since then I take the card out and check that the numbers on the back of the card (card id) match those below the bar code on the cardboard sleeve before purchasing. Coles know that this is a system fault and that their cards are vulnerable.

The older packaging is very easily to be tampered with then they changed to the current packaging but it is still very easy to tamper with and even worse that you can't even tell if it has been tampered.

There is just no way for you to tell if the card inside has been swapped or not unless you open it to check. The packaging can be tampered without leaving any trace and even if you check the packaging carefully you can't tell. Staffs don't even know how to check if the card inside is not the same on the 2nd tampered card on the shelf. I have to point to them about the card ID is the last 11-digit of the barcode.

I don't want to mention this but even if the card inside is not stolen the scammer can just copy the detail and still can use it. This card is not safe to keep for a long time as long as the packaging is vulnerable.

The most secured packaging I have found is the old Only1 Visa card but now they have changed to the same design as Coles MC which is no longer tamper-proof.

Another thing is how can Coles Financial Services running a card without 24h hotline to block the card for fraud. That is ridiculous.

      • You should have asked them to refund you the card fee as well since that is the total amount you paid not just the face value. Even if your actual card is inside scammer may have copied the detail so it is still not safe until this packaging design flaw been fixed.

You should check the balance right after buying and if it has been swapped, call Coles Prepaid card and give them the last 11-digit of the barcode to block the stolen card right away so the scammer can't use it.

UPDATE: I have called Coles Prepaid card and asked them to block the card. Stupid scammer has not used the card yet so he has just got nothing. Coles Card customer service even asked me how I know the card ID since the card is not inside and I told him it is the last 11-digit of the barcode.

This means that many scammers got away with it since ppl call to complain and don't even know the detail of the card that has been stolen to block it. Even their customer service staff doesn't know where to get this info. I have also emailed them about the weakness of their packaging with photo and they should change it.

Currently only the Vanilla Visa card has the most secured tamper-proof packaging, they should use that design.

      • Amazing. It's like people really do not care about efficiency or security. Either the customer suffers the loss or if they do compensate they consider it a cost of running the business. There is little incentive to improve by large companies.

        • The loss is added as cost of running the business will be passed onto customers via fees.

DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE NOT IN NSW.
This deal is only for NSW Coles only.

I have confirmed that this deal is NOT available in VIC so it may not be available in other states as well, someone already bought it in VIC and can confirm there is NO bonus points. This seems to be ONLY available in NSW ONLY, it seems that a few Coles in NSW has this promo sign so it may be in all the stores in NSW, but to be safe just buy 1 to test first to see if you got the bonus points. You can check your flybuys account the next day after 4pm to see if you receive any bonus points.

For now I can confirm that you won't get bonus points in VIC.

    • Can you take them back ? No T&C about NSW only.

      • +2

You may try to call Flybuys to get the points credit, but if you bought many then it maybe hard. If you are not in NSW I don't think your shop has this sign anyway.

It is not advertised in Coles catalogue so OP should have posted this deal with warning.

    • Cool, thanks for the heads up!

have to take care buying these . last time nearly lost $100 as checkout chick scanned the same card twice so i got 1 with no credit. luckily i kept receipts to prove their mistake with the same card digits on both receipts. can anyone in QLD confirm if they got the points for this promo?

    • their screen should display the error message "Failed to activate, refund the customer" but many of the staff is stupid for not understand the very clear plain English message and keeps telling you that the you won't be charged since it is failed to activate.

Especially if you use self-checkout machine to buy remember to quickly take a photo of this message on the screen because when the staff come, they just scan the card, ignore the message without even properly reading it. Many times I found the retail staff here are very arrogant, they don't know how their company system works yet don't want to learn and listen to what others tell them. Many are with the dodgy attitude that despite they know they are wrong but never want to admit it.
