      thanks added to description

  • When I try to click on "What happens if I miss out on free trees?, Am I eligible?, What tree species are available?" the tab does not slide down and open. Can anyone open it and see what it says?

    • +1

They haven't provided a list of tree species available this year. Per this link it only shows the sizes: https://shared-drupal-s3fs.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/m…

      What trees can I order?
From March to May, 1,000 orders will be made available each month to eligible households. On the first of each month, the following trees will be available:

      edible trees:

        • 2x140mm pots (for 250 households to order)
        • 3 x tubestock (for 250 households to order)

      Non-edible trees:

        • 3x140mm pots (for 250 households to order)
        • 4 x tubestock (for 250 households to order).

During the Giveaway, the list of available tree species may be adjusted, to respond to availability.

I also want to give away some of my trees but local council doesn't allow…

  • +1

People from as far as Blue Mountains expected to travel to La Perouse to pickup unknown plants. No thanks.

    • +9

It's so unfair that they don't deliver free things to our doorstep. /s

      • Why pick up place is only one particular location covering all areas of 'Greater Sydney Region'? Not particularly well thought /planned.

  • +2

thanks.. nsw planning really efficient.. can collect tomorrow.

    Trees avail:

    Fingerlimes
    Native Thyme
    Davidson Plum
    Sydney Pepermint
    Cinnamon Myrtle
    Lemon Scented Gum
    Cape Plum
    Walpole Wax
    Dwarf Plum Pine

    • Which one does not attract bees?

  • When I logged on with my service nsw account I got a message saying “Approved”. Looks like it’s the same one from last year. I don’t think I can get another free tree if I had got one last year - can I ?

    • +2

I ordered Free Tree in 2020, can I order another tree this year?
Yes. We hope you enjoyed the tree(s) you ordered in 2020 and are keen to support you again in 2021.

    • +1

      FAQs say you can

      • Thanks for that! Will try to order one again! You gotta love ozb!

  • +3

Wow. I see. Greater Sydney huh? No central coast council listed? We’re Greater Sydney when you get a COVID case and need to spend a week wearing masks… but not greater Sydney when you’re giving away free trees? </rant>

    • +1

Some councils give away free plants. Try your local council website.

    • which tree do you want?

    • +1

I'm on the coast too, I think our council wouldn't have enough money to give away even 1 tree.

  • Do they check your licence/address when you turn up? I want to grow one in my balcony….

  • There are lots of shrubs this time (native rosemary, boronias, Geraldton wax…), easier for small gardens. All natives. Best to go on the indigigrow website to check what they look like! Very fast processing. Could pick up the day after I ordered.

Btw indigigrow also had a 50% off sale when I went.

  • +1

Hopefully they've been sensible and chosen trees that don't have invasive roots and don't grow too tall or wide.
I'm going to be putting mine about about 50 cm away from a gas pipe and the power line from the pole to the house is about 1.5m away. Otherwise it should be ok so long as the tree doesn't grow to more than 3m.

  • I logged in but nothing on the dashboard to apply for trees
    My council is listed

    • +2

Click on "New" in the top left. There should be a "Free Tree Application" listed underneath.

  • I registered and got 3 trees allocated a month ago … but La Perouse is the arse end of Sydney to get to, so I didn’t collect it.

  • Except they never had my address when I searched, and can’t manually enter it, had to get the admin to do it in the backend, and when when it’s ready to collect they didn’t forward mw the confirmation email until almost too late

  • +2

it seems the edible plants aren't available to select, which is a shame (dropdown lists come up as empty, but populate for the other types). Thanks for posting it OP, wouldn't have known about this otherwise

They are only open Mon-Sat FYI, limited hours. Don't make the mistake I did and order then be unable to collect.

  • -5

I just go to my local park and take a tree.

    • Well that’s steal a tree

      • I like the people who took that seriously.

  • +3

Is anyone able to calculate how many trees I would need to plant to offset the carbon for the hour and a half drive to get to La Peruose without using a toll road?

  • No avocado trees? bummer

  • Also IndigiGrow have a separate entrance on Yarra Rd (closer to Bunnerong Rd), so don't enter through the main entrance of the school itself.

    What to choose?

Which plant least looks like a weed and has small roots that won't break into my clay pipes? And doesn't stink so much that it will affect my hayfever?
