Can vouch for the P44, we use a pair as front right/left speakers in the surround set-up. Sound great and really solid build quality.

    • Have you tried the edifier passive speakers?

  • Man, I really want that sub to fill in the missing bass in the B50s, but they already resonate through the walls at a low volume.

  • +1

Anyone know how the P44 compare to the B50?

  • How long (estimate) would the free delivery take to Brisbane? 4000

    • +1

If ordered today your order would ship tomorrow and most likely arrive Wed-Fri next week.

      • Thanks for the quick reply

      • I e purchased the subwoofer. Waiting for it to be delivered.

Thinking of purchasing the p44 to use as front presence height speakers on a Yamaha rx-v6a with a 5.1.2 setup.

I’ve noticed that p44 is 4ohm. Any idea if p44 would be compatible?

        • Most AVRs are minimum of 6ohm technically but most AVRs have modern class D amplifier chips with overload protection etc so can't possibly be damaged by low impedance speakers and have no issue running 4 ohm speakers.

          • @chiefbodge: Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, the rx v6a manual indicates that it supports 4ohm speakers as front speakers. It’s just not clear if it includes front presence height speakers in this “front” speaker category. I will try to perform more research before I pull the trigger.

  • Hey - any deal on the amp? Would love to get the speaker & amp combo.

    • +2

If you order the speaker and amp together you can add speaker cables to your order free of charge. If you buy the new P44s you can also use the $10 off coupon code but this wont apply to the amp + seconds p44s as its below the coupon min spend. Unfortunately we can't discount the A100 further because we're low on stock and wont be getting more for some time.

      • Hi - does the $10 coupon also work with the free cables? If so could you let me know the coupon, thanks.

        • +3

          Yes it does. QV4UHGJQ

Edit: there seems to be an issue applying this coupon while there are free speaker cables in the order. Anyone who orders amp + p44 + speaker cables and wants to use the $10 coupon (not valid for seconds p44s) leave a note in the order comments and we'll issue a $10 refund.

  • Any reviews/comments on the subwoofer?

    • +2

There's some reviews on our website (we have posted 100% of reviews to our website - we dont filter out bad reviews).

You also might find some comments in previous OzBargain deals: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/voll.com.au

      • Thanks I've already had a look through some of the old posts. But yes, I was primarily looking for independent/3rd party reviews.
I appreciate you saying the reviews posted on your site are unfiltered though.

Hey mate, I have the S8 paired with a pair of P44s, and can say the S8's are great. Its a down-firing sub, and I have it in my upstairs study, and can cause a bit of rattle, e.g. door, so need to sort something out to control the rattle, but rather than that its value for money.

    • +2

I got the S8 in one of the previous deals, paired with a pair of Presonus Eris 3.5s. They go really well together, and the S8 adds some really nice lows. With the volume up reasonably high in movies with some deep bass it works really nicely - can't hear any distortion and bass is punchy. I'm not an audiophile though but I'm very happy with it.

They claim the frequency goes down to 23Hz but that's not my experience. With the bass port plug in it is much more limited, and even with it out the bass volume has dropped quite a bit by 35Hz and is close to gone by 30Hz. It's not just my ears, either: I can feel the air vibrations by holding my hand under the sub and there is next to no movement by that time. 30-35Hz is still pretty good for an 8" sub but it's certainly not 23Hz.

Overall I'm still super happy with it because I've got a pair of tiny studio monitors on my desk but their limited range is very well complemented by the Voll sub tucked under the desk.

Hey @chiefbodge just a headsup - it looks like the free cable offer mentioned in the P44 seconds product page doesn't work. Adding a new P44 to the cart adds the coupon code correctly, but having a Seconds P44 in the cart does not.

    • +1

Thanks for that - this should be fixed now.

  • Quick question for anybody with the new Voll Amp (https://voll.com.au/product/voll-a100-amplifier/) - does the 24V power supply have an Australian electrical safety approval (RCM)? (I've got several older amps that I've picked up over the years with no-name/unregistered power supplies that I'd like to replace with Australian compliant kit).

    • +2

Our previous powered products (the A44 / S6) and our S8 definitely has RCM and relevant test reports. I'm not in the warehouse today so will have to check and confirm with you tomorrow as I don't have any A100 psus on hand and will need to talk to someone else to confirm.

      • No problem - thanks for the follow up!

      • Hi Chief - any update on this?

  • Is there an expiration date on these deals? I’m super keen but gotta check measurements and such to make sure the sub will fit in my space.

    • We don't have an expiry at the moment, it will run at least over the weekend.

  • Anyone have any experience with the outdoor speakers? Decent sound from them?

  • Hey chief, any ideas on how I can minimize the rattle with the down-firing S8's, I've got them upstairs, and are firing into carpet. Tried to get my hands on Subdude, sub isolation platform, but they are sold out most places. Will take any advice. Cheers.

    • It depends on what is rattling - have you tried turning the sub on its side just to see if its the down firing nature that's causing issues? (I'm guessing it probably isn't and would cause rattles regardless). My advice would be to try using foam (the packing foam that comes with the S8 for example) and cut a square for each leg and see if that helps, if it does you can try to work out a way to make it look a bit nicer.

      • Along the wall in which the door is situated, the sub is next to that, about a meter away from the door and a few inches away from the wall. Things around the room rattle in higher volumes, which is fine, but the door rattling effects the experience a little bit.

The more I think about this, it could be the sub port at the back, pushing too much air onto the wall?

    • Is the sub itself rattling, or is it causing other things to rattle?

      • +1

The sub is solid, just things around it, but most annoyingly the door.

        • +1

Anything that rattles at the same frequency as something the sub emits could end up rattling. The vibrations could be transferred through the air, walls, floorboards, whatever. Unless you've got something to absorb the vibrations being transferred I'm not sure what you can do. Maybe nail the door shut? :)

          • @tophorus: Haha yeah I was thinking of applying decoupling methods, but damn they expensive. Hopefully find a cheaper alternative that works. If not, yes, I will nail the door shut :)

  • I'd love to see a review somewhere on the ceiling speakers… surely there must be one somewhere on the net? Failing that, can you get them into some reviewers hands?

    • Yeah, I've got two pairs in the basket, wondering if I should pull the trigger…

    • +5

Unfortunately there's no reviews that I'm aware of for the HiVi ceiling and outdoor speakers. I use both myself at home and I'm very happy with them (which is why we decided to import them).

I use them in my kitchen with an Amazon Echo Dot, Old SMSL SA-60 amp and S8 sub and it sounds great - awesome sound stage and presence. We do have a money back guarantee if you're not happy with them but of course you'll only find that out after cutting a hole in your ceiling (which is fine if you then replace it with a speaker of the same size or larger).

They do sound awful (as do all ceiling speakers) when you just take them out of the box and test them when they're not installed but they sound great as soon as they are in a ceiling, especially if there is insulation on top of them.

If it helps anyone out we'll be waiving our $10 return fee for change of mind returns of the ceiling and outdoor speakers so you wont be out of pocket at all if you decide you don't like them and want to return them.

We'd love to get them into reviewer's hands but its not really a product that would be easily reviewable which has caused issues.

  • Hi rep - I'm interested in the Voll S8 sub to pair with an active 2.0 set up ie. with the Edifier deal up now, or an audioengine active pair for a desktop set up.

Actives can plug straight USB or otherwise into the PC

How will the sub connect? Will the sub need an amplifier to connect to the active speakers & PC?

    Cheers

    • +2

The Voll S8 is an active sub which means it contains its own amplifier. To connect to active speakers you have the following options:

      • If your active speakers have it use the sub out or line out from your active speakers to the S8 (we include the most common mono rca to mono rca cable for this).
      • If your PC has multiple audio outputs and you are able to set up in software which outputs are for what then use a 3.5mm to RCA cable to connect the S8 and either USB or 3.5mm to connect your active speakers (this could be the ideal option if you are only using the speakers and sub for your PC and you have the ability to control which frequency ranges are sent to the speakers and the sub). Equalizer APO is great software for this purpose

If your active speakers don't have a subwoofer output then you can use the two options below but its not recommended compared to the above options

      • Use a 3.5mm splitter such as https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323919462351 from your PC and then 3.5mm from the splitter to active speakers, then 3.5mm from the splitter to RCA into the S8 sub. This means you will have to set the volume on both the active speakers and sub and then control volume only from your PC from then on.
      • You can alternatively use speaker cable from the passive speaker to one channel on the S8 speaker level inputs (if your active speakers have one passive and one active, that is only one with power going to it). But it does mean you only have one channel audio going into the sub which is usually ok but not always.

Any further questions let me know.

      • Thanks that's really helpful.

The active Edifiers don't have sub out unfortunately - are there any other better ways to do it other than the non-recommended options you posted below?

Would buying the Voll amp help with this?

Also when is the sale ending?

        • Also does the Voll S8 have L+R pass through? to connect to the active speakers?

          • @G Wok: The Voll A100 is only for passive speakers. Active speakers can't use an external amp as they have their amplifier integrated.

If you only control the volume on your PC the 3.5mm splitter option will be fine.

Sale will end some time this week (Wed-Fri). We haven't decided on the end time yet.

          • @G Wok: Do you have an example of what you mean by L+R pass through? (Like a product that has it?)

            • @chiefbodge: Oh I just read that L+R can connect from PC to sub, then sub to speakers. Will that work? That way it avoids output to sub to mains.

              • @G Wok: Do you have an example sub that has this feature? Just not totally familiar with the term.

        • I had the same issue with my Eris 3.5s. They don't have a sub out, and the sub doesn't have pass through, so I wired the sub to the terminals that normally run from the left speaker to the right.

The advantage of this is that the volume control on the active speakers also controls the volume of the sub, so everything stays in balance.

          Hope that makes sense

          • @tophorus: Thanks for your input!

I ended up getting the Edifier S3000PRO. They don't have sub outs.

Now looking for a sub to go with it. If the Voll S8 doesn't have pass through, I guess I could try what you do! Do you connect the RCA to those L to R terminals? Does that affect the sound between L&R at all?

            • +1

              @G Wok: No worries. :)

I don't use RCA, I use speaker wire connected to the terminals.

The Voll sub just has four speaker wire posts (black and red x 2 for L&R speaker inputs, but I just use the left speaker one), plus a single RCA-style sub input which doesn't work for me because I don't want to strip down an RCA cable.

I haven't found it affects the sound to only use the left speaker. Chief Bodge told me when I was contacting him in the previous deal that most really low frequencies tend to be mixed to the centre of sound mixes because to our ears the sound is non-directional. So far it seems to be correct - I've never heard the deep bass switch off as the sound pans from one side to another.

              Hope that helps.

                @tophorus:

Yep, absolutely correct. Low-end can be enough of a mess without trying to do a stereo mix on it.

  • great company, already have multiple pairs or i'd get more, have bought from them 3x and always a great experience. highly recommended!

  • Does anyone know the dimensions of the P44? The measurements on the site seem a little off.

    • +1

Sorry for the confusion - the dimensions in the "additional information" tab are for the shipping carton. The correct dimensions are listed in the description: 237mm (H) x 152mm (W) x 215mm (D) (per speaker)

  • I ordered the subwoofer on 22 June and it was delivered today 25 June in Melb. Same price still as above. Plugged in and very happy with the sound - movies are going to be booming again.

  • Hi, I just bought the S8 subwoofer but am unable to connect it to my Edifier's sub out. Could anyone tell me what cable I need/should buy?

    Thank you!

    • +1

Sorry I only just saw your comment. What model edifiers do you have? The S8 subwoofer should've come with a yellow and black mono RCA cable that connects to the vast majority of subwoofer outputs.

      • How long is the included RCA cable? I'm hoping 4 or 5m…

        • +1

          1.5m

          • @chiefbodge: Thanks :) Is it ok to run a 4m cable?

            • +2

@Epyc: It's fine but the longer the run the greater the attenuation. 4m should be fine for decent quality cables but poor quality cables might have issues with audio quality at that distance.

  • +1

Thanks OP for sharing this deal, I've read some reviews and checked out all the competition in the under $350 Active Sub market and this looks like an absolute deal! I also considered buying a used Sub but it's too risky… so I pulled the trigger and bought this Voll S8 8″ Sub today :)

    • Purchased this Voll S8 8" Subwoofer for $179 + Free Delivery (which is a bargain) and it arrived within 2 business days to me (in South Australia). My initial impression? This sub has far surpassed my expectations!

It came included with a 1.5m RCA (mono) cable which wasn't long enough for my sound system setup so I purchased a 4m RCA cable and used this instead with no issues. I connected this Sub to my Pioneer VSX-522 via the LFE Input and after configuring my speakers (Front + Sub) in my Receiver and setting the AV Crossover to 150Hz and the Sub Crossover to 160Hz (for a warm handover of frequency) everything was up and running beautifully!

I only have this sub set to 50% volume and that's plenty and even though it doesn't have a physical "auto power off" button (which was the only reason I was considering not to purchase this sub) I read online from a rep that it actually DOES have built-in auto power off (or standby mode) so it doesn't use much power when there's no audio signal.

The sub came with a foam plug for the port (for punchier bass, which I couldn't really notice…) so I removed the plug and the bass is much deeper and louder which I prefer! I couldn't find anything remotely comparable in terms of quality, sound and value — near this price point!

As decent "brand name" 100W RMS Active Subs start from $399 AUD and above… so I highly recommend this sub to anyone who currently had a 2.0 or 4.0 system (like I did) and wants to add that sweet sweet .1 (sub) into their home theatre system setup! Thanks Voll for the great value sub!
