  • Good price if you have space for a rack…
That's about what I paid for the UDM last year.

I dont know how anyone has space to NOT have a rack!?
Most space efficient thing going around

      • Nice rack :)

I appreciate you comment! I half typed a follow on but decided going down that particular path was not appropriate.
In any case, https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/ for all your racking inspiration

    $538.92 with "PLUSES10"

    • Only if you had eBay plus.

  • Is the UDM Pro overkill for a home/remote work environment with gigabit? I'm tossing up between this and the much cheaper USG to replace my pfSense VM.

    • +1

I have one and it's great, overkill, probably. But having everything in one place with Unifi for me is worth it.

The USG won't do 100Mbps with IDS/IPS filtering on apparently, but this will. Not overkill if that is what you need.

      • 108/36 on Launtel here with our USG…and yes IPS/IDS on.

Other issue coming from pfSense may be some missing features from your current system, but obvs depends how complex your setup is. See Lawrence Systems on youtube for a fairly impartial summary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI7zt1Vf8vE

      • Watch this review. Unifi and pfSense have a different feature set.

    • Purchase the UDM Pro if you want IDS/IPS filtering enabled with Gigabit.

  • I think the issue with the basic USG is that throughput is apparently only around 90mbps if you have intrusion detection etc turned on. The other option is the USG-PRO-4.

Great all in one device for those who want USG, a Switch and UniFi Protect. I run one at home and find it is amazing, even with IPS/IDS turned on it doesn’t impact my NBN.

I have this and its a great all in one. Integrated my unifi wifi APs and 24 port switch.
had a few bugs early on but seems a bit better now

I have divided my network up into 3.
    Infrastructure
    Main
    IOT/Dirty
    And Guest
I have firewalls between them. Put junk network devices (IP cameras, ring etc…) on the IOT

I highly recommend it if you are technical. If you are not technical its probably not worth it.
