Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Beats Pro Headphone (Black) ~AU$321.91 (£209.24)

1014

These seem to be all the craze at the moment.. and for good reason. Put aside the Monster brand-hype-nonsense, these headphones are quite decent performers. If R&B/Hip-Hop/Techno/Dance is your thing and you haven't tried these, you don't know what you're missing.

Anyways, these have just dropped about £46 from the Amazon UK site, making them about £210 delivered minus the VAT. Not sure if it's a temporary drop or permanent. However, given the white versions haven't dropped in price, I am inclined to think it's only temporary.

I used a generous exchange rate of AU$1/£.65 (currently ~£.67 from rba.gov.au) to cover credit card charges. Checked other Amazon sites (.com, .de, .it) and this seems to be the cheapest.

These are currently selling for $599 @ JB HiFi, but I suspect you will be able to haggle for a better price.

Warning: Don't be fooled, Dr Dre (as far as I know) is not an actual Dr so buy these at your own risk.

They are everywhere now. all these people advertising beats. Makes me wanna take em and sell them off
Theyre still a rip off at this price but it wont detract people from buying

  • -5

This won't go great with my $199 netbook

    • +6

      lololo getting old ben10!

      • Hey this one was different, I said it won't go great with it

  • -3

It's a deal, but too rip off to be use on somebody's $199 netbook

Too bad the red color one is not on sale

  • +23

They may sound decent, but they're nowhere near $320 decent. I don't understand why people jump at them, but if you really do have to have them then this isn't a bad price.

    • +5

thats the point they're famous for being famous haha

      • +18

They're famous because people believe the inflated RRP means good quality LOL

        • +8

"If R&B/Hip-Hop/Techno/Dance is your thing and you haven't tried these, you don't know what you're missing."

If sound is your thing, i don't know why you're spending such coin on an item like this. If you're wanting to look like the other wannabe down the street, you're on the right track.

        • +5

In that case they would make a perfect companion for any Apple product.

  • -8

My most expensive headphones: $8 at $2 shop lol
crispy sound, hot bass, nice looking, 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm adaptor, they're called "professional monitor headphones" which make me feel they're of great value!

pm me and I tell you where to buy but hurry!

    • +39

      If you're paying $8 at a $2 store, you're not a true OB

    • I can tell you now that while your $8 headphones may have 'crispy sound' it's probably a mix of static and broken $0.50 drivers. I wouldn't spend less that $50 on headphones (unless some really great ones where on sale), buying a pair of UE700's was a great idea & has only left me questioning greater headphones.

UE200's are probably the only budget headphones I've owned that have good price/performance.

  • +8

This brand got everybody talking about them but its sound quality worth only half of this discount price if you asked me.

    • +1

If that… I'd say say half over inflated price (that's for the deal price, probably a quarter for RRP) and then another half for the noise canceling tech.

    • -7

      no one asked you, mister.

    • This headphone is great for 16 year old kids that had to save all their pocket money just so they can be the cool kid at school.

  • +8

if you're going to be buying beats at this price, you don't deserve to be on ozbargain

    • +14

…or if you're buying Beats period.

      • I'd buy them for $5… final offer!
Seriously not worth it, something like the TF10s or some decent sennhesiers can be had with change for some other bargains

        • in the headphones(not IEMs) department change for a decent amp

  • +18

I'd rather get a good pair of sennheiser's

    • +3

Completely agree with you. This headphones are mediocre at best. Just marketing and hype - but that's how one gets rich these days I suppose. Just get a mediocre product, give it a "cool" name, hype it up, and find enough gullible people to buy it. Great. ;-)

  • +8

So is it a general rule that any brand with Monster in it is overpriced junk?

    • +8

Pretty much since its true. $10 to make, sell for $600

      • how much to advertise and promote them?

        • And pay for those scientists to come up with the pseudo-science behind it. White lab coats cost money.

        • You don't need scientists for pseudo science… any person that finished business school would do.

    • sometimes you can snag a deal but generally even the sound quality isn't that great for the price excluding the studio beats

    • Monster's IEMs are apparently very good.
Which is a fluke for the brand.

  • +11

guys, dont buy these beats. ill sell you my used apple earphones for $400 - which is even more overpriced, that is what you want right?

    • +1

      $399 and its a deal

      • +1

        I raise you $0.01!

  • +6

hahahaha these are rubbish headphones. $599 at JB? ahahhahahahahahaha. people stupid enough to do that deserve to waste their money.

    • I should have been smart enough to create them. Damn!

    • But they're so cool! All the celebrities wear them in the music videos!

  • +2

fair warning on the doctor thing; i imagine no one has mentioned the fair warning on the lack of Dre's accreditation because of the TL;DR factor haha

    • +5

Dr Dre is not a doctor ? …next your going to tell me 50cent is really not a signing coin!

      • not signing, but the coin does sing!

  • +7

From the same people that brought you these "super high quality" HDMI cables: http://www.monstercable.com/

    Yeah… no.

Here is a better set of headphones for half the price: http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=319

This is Oz Bargain, you aren't stupid enough to think this is 'good value'.

    • +10

Vote on the BARGAIN/DEAL not on the product.
Yes, Beats is shiethouse, doesn't mean this isn't a good deal for those tools who like beats

      • +4

I did, it's still a colossal waste of money.

The headphones are still headphones (I'd buy them for <$100) but they are not a bargain.

Note: Beats aren't necessarily 'shit', they are just insanely overpriced.

        • +2

but you forget it will match the coolness of my iphone…..which is also not insanely overpriced when valued with the currency of "how cool am I".

        • Haha, for an iPhone you would need a line-out adapter and a headphone amp to get the most out of this mediocre pair.

    • Are the batteries included? ;-)

  • +3

God i hate monster, their dodgy false marketing and claims just pee me off, can't believe one of my mates back in the day fell for their absurd prices on HDMI cables. Ah monster, tricking them newby consumers!

    • Bad marketing. Many companies are capable to sell their cables at even more inflated prices.

    • +1

Monster used to make decent cables during the analogue era and retailed for more than it's worth.

Now that we're in the digital era, they're still using the same shenanigans to trick the newbies and the old folks with the 99.999999999999999999999999999 oxygen free crap. LoL.

  • +12

Friends don't let friends buy beats.

    • +5

Friends don't let friends buy products from Monster, period.

      • this may be why the beats brand has ditched their monster partnership going forward.

turns out that dre (or whoever actually owns the brand because it sure isn't monster) keps full ownership but monster was a co-brand sponsor + vendor for the units. now more and more people see monster as inflated crap.

i'm sure the beats people would like to get away with selling inflated crap for longer than monster may survive … under a random new vendor, beats will keep the margins healthier(for them) than a two-company customer-raping partnership would allow.

  • +4

Your paying about $250 for the little red b's one each can.

  • Could get a Bose noise cancelling for this much.

  • +5

They are just another form of idiot tax.

    • +1

Monster is the idiot tax collection agency.

    • 'A fool and his money are easily parted'; disgusting advertisement.

  • Get fakes from dhgate. Go with a good seller and they'll be 1:1 copies.

    • or Dealextreme for about 85$

      • -1

can't seem to find any on dealextreme… but dhgate has plenty. reviews indicate the counterfeits aren't too far off; might just get me a pair of them i'm not an audiophile but love BASS!!!

      • My fake Solo HDs are from DX, there ok. But delivery takes FOREVER. From what I've read dhgate sellers ship faster and quality is the same if not better than DX.

        • And how is the quality of yours? Just in general? Still find them very bassy?

        • +1

My fake Solo HDs are very good, sound wise, exactly like the ones I've tried in JB/HN.

        • Thanks for all your advice, mate!

        • dont you get the one ear louder than the other issue?

          if not what sku?

      • Seen them on TaoBao for like $40 plus delivery (and agent fees if you don't know Chinese).

        • Not all fakes are equals.

      • DX ones have been pulled out about a year now, so are most of their "designer" monster stuff. Must've been hit with a cease and desist notice, or supply cant handle the demand.

        • +1

A year? I got mine about a month ago. They were taken down because they were getting far too many orders to handle over the Chinese New Year holiday. I'm sure they will be back.

          Clueless posters are clueless.

          EDIT:
There still is Monster products, just not the popular ones:
          http://www.dealextreme.com/p/designer-s-solo-hd-bluetooth-v2…
          http://www.dealextreme.com/p/designer-s-in-ear-stereo-earpho…

        • I was talking about beats by dre and the pro's you troll

        • And FYI: When DX says "Temporarily out of stock" it means its permanently out of stock. 99% of the time they never restock

        • "I was talking about beats by dre and the pro's you troll"
Both of those ARE Beats By Dre, and so are mine.

As for the Pros, they were there less than a month ago, not "about a year"

Pointing out people who are wrong isn't trolling.

          EDIT:
Notice Google's cache "It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on 25 Jan 2012 05:39:33 GMT", hmmm funny doesn't sound like "year ago" to me?
          http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:4isrTfN…

    • … or buy good headphones. :P (Not Beats of course!)

  • There are a lot of counterfit and knock off Beats headphones around, shop wisely

  • -2

I've heard good things about Beats from audiophiles, will be interesting to see how they go in the hands of HP.

Me, I'll just stick with the free ones from Virgin Australia flights.

    • +1

HTC owns Beats, not HP. HP just pay for the brand on some laptops.

      • Why vote me down? Truth has no place on the internet?

    • +4

No you haven't. Anyone who has ever said good things about Beats is definitely not an audiophile.

    • phhhhh as if! Any "Audiophile" that would be caught saying anything like that would be shunned immediately.

I guess believing in the magic powers of silver cables with gold threading is not quite the same as thinking a rapper would know anything about how to make good cans.

  • +8

Yeah i got $300 headphones but I'm listening to MP3s ripped at 128kb… I'm so awesome!

    • Ermm… these $300 headphone's can't even reproduce the 128kb mp3's properly? So what are you going on about?

  • -8

Im not sure why people are saying these headphone are rubbish; They are expensive but are not rubbish. I have a pair and they are the best headphones i have ever had.

    • +7

Either you haven't heard "Good" headphones or you just don't know what good sound quality sounds like. Have a listen to Senheisser HD 598/HD650.

Beats have over exagerrated bass, which they tried to counter by having insanely harsh highs. The sound is too colored and no where near accurate. If they were being sold for 100-200 then they wouldnt be "rubbish". 500rrp is just a joke, just because people see celebs wearing them.

      • But why work out, be friendly, rich and smile lots when i can look the same as all these celebrities simply by wearing beats?

Dont you see? they are SAVING people money! Money that they dont deserve to have.

    • You don't even have to go as high as the Senns, I A/B the beats with Audio Technica M50 and they came no where near the ATH. That's $150 worth of cans beating $450 worth.

But maybe don't go and check them out, it might ruin your illusion that you have great (expensive) headphones.

  • +1

But how will people know i am better than they are? Does it come with a price tag hanging off it?

  • -5

Lot of you sados don't seem to understand some people look for more than just sound quality when buying headphones. Comfort and style are also issues for some people. Sennheiser make some great sounding headphones but they look way to geeky imo and my Sennys crush my skull.

Do I think style and comfort makes them worth $500? No, that's why I buy fakes. Do I have an issue with people who have the money and make the choice to buy real? No.

Get a life. More important things to hate people for than their headphone choice.

    • +3

      Nobody suggested Sennheiser's.

If you are willing to spend $320+ on a pair of headphones, get these: http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=11

That is if you are after comfort and sound quality.

If you are satisfied with sound quality: http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=319 is less than half the price.

If you are more concerned about Style then I guess you deserve to listen to mediocre quality sound.

Personally I like the style of the M50's and Audio Technica are far more renowned than Monster are for making high quality audio implements.

Beyerdynamic is not as public facing but their equipment is also top notch.

The real issue here is that people are willing to pay the cost of studio grade equipment for consumer grade products, and they will not stand to reason.

      • The real issue here is that people are willing to pay the cost of studio grade equipment for consumer grade products, and they will not stand to reason.

Absolutely….. and negging this post is not only denying them that choice, but also removing from view any information people might have, to point them towards better value headphones….

        go the negs…. (sigh)

      • Both look horrible imo. These are part decent (not amazing, decent) headphones, part fashion accessory. Accept not everyone cares about low/mid/highs bla bla bla and some people just want something sitting on their heads that don't make them look like Gothic fighter pilots.

You've made your point about sound quality, not everyone cares, accept it and move on.

        • I'd rather have some Louis Vutton Headpiece for $9999rrp than this tbh.

  • +5
  • +2

Warning: Don't be fooled, Dr Dre (as far as I know) is not an actual Dr so buy these at your own risk.
