Watching this model for a couple of months and now it's about 15% off cheaper than Razer eBay store, also seems like a reasonable price compares to Bestbuy USA price (US$2200).

  • This is my first year in the market for a gaming laptop - can any veteran OzBargainers advise if we're likely to see better deals closer to EOFY? I'm holding out for a 3080…

The market is crazy right now with all of the shortages going on. I placed an order for a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with the 3070 and they quoted me September for shipping. It shipped yesterday but it's now no longer on the website so there aren't going to be any super deals really. Also have to keep in mind the power consumption of the GPU because it can make a big difference, for example the Razer Blade has a 95W 3070 compared to the 140W 3070 in the Lenovo.

      • About a week and a half ago I was tossing up between the Legion 5 Pro and Legion 7 with some quotes on the education store where the L5P was out of stock and the L7 supposedly had 10 units available, but after they disappeared from the site a day later and support were quoting 8-10 weeks to ship, I looked around locally and pulled the trigger on an Infinity W5 (uses the Tongfang GM5ZG7W design) with basically the same spec at the Legions I was looking at for a little over $2,800 which wasn't too far off the quotes I had.

It's pretty rough trying to find something with the latest gen hardware inside right now though, one moment something is available and in stock, and the next everything is sold out.

    • As Captain-Danke said, if you're looking for a gaming laptop, keep a close eye on the GPU wattage. A 115W RTX 3060 Laptop will often run rings around an 80W RTX 3070 Laptop when paired with the same or similar processors, assuming cooling is adequate for both. The same applies to last gen stuff as well.

Depending on your expectations, last-gen laptops could be worth looking out for. An RTX 2070 or RTX 2070 Super laptop can still be competitive with the new RTX 3060 Laptop and RTX 3070 Laptop chips, it just depends on wattage and cooling. If you see a model with older GPUs being cleared out that matches your other needs, I'd give it some consideration. Be sure to try and find reviews for the specific model you're looking at too, if possible.

The biggest issue at the moment is supply. One day, a given laptop might be in stock and available to order, and the next it's gone from the website completely. If you're happy to wait for a deal, you've also got to be happy to wait for stock to become available.

I've been buying gaming laptops for years and I always find the best deals are at the beginning of June.

It's $2529 at CentreCom if you don't want the QHD screen.

1080p at 15 inches is perfect. Also easier to run for 3070. QHD is better for 17 inch

  • This is a prety good deal with a slightly better processor and probably better battery life…

Most gaming laptops are better value than Razer, but love it or hate it their design and build quality far exceeds the better value ones.

  • Don’t forget student discount for 10%off.

    • Don't think it applies to anything other than Surface

      • It applies to most things(PC, laptop, related accessories but I don’t believe it applies to headphones) at Microsoft Store or Sydney retail store. Yes even Razer Core X, Dell XPS

        • How do you activate it for this laptop? i can't seem to find the option unlike for the surface devices. Thanks

@qvinto: It used to be student discounts option (verification link) button down below the ‘Add to Cart’. (Still exists for some items now) Just checked it does not exist for this product. My advice would be going to Sydney retail store and ask them to put 10% off. They can order anything if you can see it online even online exclusive.

            • @9hcpz: Thanks but am living the lockdown life in Melbourne at the moment

        • the microsoft store in sydneys no longer a retail store so i dont think you can purchase anything (can go there for support and try products)
