F/4… Why would someone buy a F/4 lens?

    • +2

Because they don't have to coin for f2.8?

    • +1

Benefit of cost and weight for 1 stop of light.

    • +2

      Because it's better than f/3.5-f/5.6 or f/6.3.

    • +1

Because an F2.8 zoom would cost 3 times as much and not everyone need/afford it.

    • I prefer the cheap and light f4, the f2.8 is a great lens, but if I want extreme quality and don't care about the weight I'd go for prime with even better IQ and faster. F4 is perfect for using with the z body while hiking, light and with in body stabilisation it's fast enough for most situation handheld. This combo plus 14-30f4 allowed me to go to places I couldn't with a good camera before. If the place can be reached by car directly, I just use the heavy prime plus tripod and see no need ever for a 24-70/2.8

  • Please post any deals on canon RF lens :)

    • lol, yes please!
I am so jelly seeing all these other lens deals….waiting for ANY decent RF lens to become affordable.

  • Great price for new lens!

If you want the f/2.8 version for $3,088 (normally $3,679) here you go:

FWIW the f/4 version has excellent quality optically using image corrections baked into JPEGs or Lightroom. Mechanically it's OK but doesn't "feel" as well built as the f/2.8 version:

I went from the f/2.8 holy trinity to the f/4 versions and my back thanks me for it. Just wish Nikon would get around to a native 70-200mm Z f/4 S.
