Found these LG blank dvd's for $11.65 each. This is an absolute bargain considering these LG DVD have 98% success rate. I hav been using them for 1 year and never had a bad burn.

Just bought 6 of these from the website.

  • good deal considering MSY is selling them for $15 each so $45 in total comepare to this deal. You save $10 plus petrol/transportation.

  • Thanks

  • Nice price. Do you by any chance know the media codes on those DVDs? If they start with TYG (Taiyo Yuden) or MCC (Mitsubishi/Verbatim) that would be a superb deal.

    • never, it is more likely CMC.MAG.AM3

      decent quality…

      • Thanks for that monkp.

  • CMC MAG AM3s are generally mediocre media at best. I have tested these extensively and they are acceptable only on some players and burners - compatibility is not great. Burn quality in PI/PIF tests is mediocre. I'm not sure if these are made in Taiwan or China, as I've seen LG media from both regions.

The price is nothing special, considering MSY sell CMC MAG AM3 full printables (no markings on the top of the disc unlike some LG printables) for $12 for 50 under the Melody brand. These are of comparable quality to the LG discs.

MCC (usually Verbatim) and Taiyo Yuden are more widely compatible and deliver much better write quality.

The cheapest 16x MCC media at the moment is actually selling at MSY under the INTACT brand. $12 per 50 and much better burn quality and compatibility than these LG discs.

    Intact branded MCC03RG20:

CMC MAG AM3 (written at 16x):

The INTACT branded MCC discs look like this:

Apparently there are both "white printables" and "silver printables" clearly check the label before buying. Also it is a good make sure the discs have Mitsubishi Chemical Company stacking ring codes, which you can actually read through the transparent spacer on the bottom of the shrink-wrapped cakes, if you look carefully in the right light. Example of MCC stacking ring code: ZD-9921-DVR-J47F4.
Other Intact media is usually CMC MAG AM3 (16x dvd-r), CMC MAG AE1 (8x dvd-r, less compatible than the 16x discs) and occasionally Prodisc coded discs (though I've never used any of those).

    • Thanks for the detailed info.
I had no clue about blank dvd technology. LG ones have been the cheapest and best for me among all the big branded blank dvd like Sony, TDK, etc. As a result I have stuck to these for 2 years now.
I will definately try out the INTACT brand dvd's next time. Really appreciate your post.
      Thanks

    • to Andrew1, May I know what are you doing for a living? Your comment is quite detailed and informative. Thanks for the info and I will try the Intact branded DVD next time.

  • Hmmmm….

You just stopped me from buying this.
I really hate when discs fail and you lose valuable data.

  • Andrew I just read your post AFTER buying 150 discs and now am not sure if I have just wasted my money once again on discs! I just want to transfer all the pics off my pc onto discs! Where do you get the ones you have referred to from ($12 for 50)? Atleast I haven't paid for the shipping costs so I think I will vote this as a good deal! Thanks for posting it!

  • Well, I didn't buy the DVDs, but I bought Digital Bathroom scales $15, and 6x BBQ Disc thingys (apparently they kick ass), so I shall test em at at the next BBQ.

  • Did they jackup the price to $49.95 now?

  • It says "Don't Pay: $90.00"

Someone needs to assure them that nobody is going to pay $90.

  • Yup - agree 100% with the media code stuff - I have had some really bad experiences with CMC.MAG AM3's - the OP may say he's used for over a yr and had a 98% burn success rate……but I would imagine he's just saying the burns SEEMED to go fine - that doesn't mean that the info is actually usable after - let alone a few yrs after.

I had the same thing and then a few months later about 60% of my discs were fubar.

Is an okay deal if its for short term use or similar - but if you're wanting to keep for a while you need to use quality media that you KNOW the media codes for.
