Someone explain why someone felt this product needed to exist to me.

    • Corporate Greed. Not enough yachts :-)

    • Home theatre set ups. Add nice ambiance that can be link to your media playback

The software will be updated shortly so that the gradient strips can also be used as part of a regular lighting scene, independent of the sync box.

      • I keep seeing people do this.

I can’t be the only person who wants to focus on my television only when I’m watching a movie?

        • Doesn't take away from the focus. Helps immerse you into what your watching. Apparently also helps with eye fatigue

  • Still super expensive….and I'm pretty sure you need to drop another $350-$400 for the sync box for it to do that ambilight thing.

    • This. I really can’t understand the value in the Philips Hue kit, and particularly why supposedly frugal Oxbargainers go nuts over it Even if it was 75% off, it
would still come in at several times it’s competitors…for what? I guess if you are dead-set on dropping thousands tying in your TV and entire home into one system, there is nothing as comprehensive. However, if you’re just looking for TV ambient lighting, how can you justify this and the sync box for $700 (on sale!), versus the Dream Color Backlight for $100-$120 on AliExpress?:

Genuinely asking. I want a quality kit, but haven’t been able to justify paying 7x the price…the Dream Color looks to garner good reviews.

      • I didn't actually know there were relatively affordable alternatives like DreamColour. I have about 4m of the Lifx Z strip which are awesome ane addressable although they do lose connection from time to time and the only sync options I have is through an app but the biggest issue is that it doesn't do the ambilight thing for protected content. Works for youtube content but Netflix/Disney+ won't work.

I might look into this Govee brand. Looks like a Hue knock off but much cheaper.

        • I was considering Govee, but apparently the lighting lags the content considerable due to it using a camera facing the screen - as opposed to a direct HDMI input - to control the lighting. You also have an ugly camera hanging off the bottom of top of your TV.

I think the Dream Color is the go as the closest thing to the Phillips Hue kit. I think the only thing it lacks is that it has 1 HDMI input versus 4. However, I only need one anyway as I'd be using my HDMI out (in series, before it goes to my sound bar) to control it. The only HDMI input I use is my PS4 - everything else (Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube) is through the Smart TV UI - so the 4 x HDMI inputs of the Hue are worthless to me. To use it I'd have to invest even more money into Chromecast or something similar.
