  • Nice. How does a low 38Wh pair with a 8 core cpu? Will it last long between charges for basic web stuff?

    • +3

Would be like 4 hrs under real life.

CPUs are pretty good at throttling down when they're not doing too much work, and a 4 core CPU will get through the work it needs to do faster than a 2 core CPU and throttle down faster. The throttling isn't perfect, but it gets better every CPU generation. Some web pages are really shittily coded and chew power every second they're open, some aren't, so it'll depend if you're on 9MSN or google news.

Also, if you set your CPU power saving settings aggressively then your screen brightness will have a large impact on your battery life as well. It's a small battery, don't get me wrong, but the screen size is the main thing I compare battery life to these days, not the core count on the CPU. A 17" screen has 50% more area than a 14" screen and for an equivalent brightness will chew 50% more battery.

Report put this laptop at 3 to 7 hours battery depending on use and brightness, so yeah, not brilliant!

Cheaper with eBay Plus 22% off

  • Zen 2. Would be good if it was 5800U which are hard to come by.

    • +3

It'd be good if it had a 3070 and gold plating, but I don't know if we'll find those or a 5800U at $800.

      • Would be happy if the cpu was dropped to a 5600U and 799 Delivered with non eBay plus.

        • Personally I'll take the 20% better GPU performance and slightly better all core performance of the 5700U, but if single core speed is what you want then sure, the 5600U would be a better choice for you. All depends what you're doing with the machine I guess.

  • Friendly reminder that the 5700U is Zen 2 architecture, while the 5600U and 5800U are Zen 3, complete with a notable single core bump.

    • They are Zen 2 based, but codename Lucenne is up to 10% faster and uses about 7w less in power on average vs Renoir(first iteration of Zen 2).

      • I'm aware it's updated, but it still falls notably behind Zen 3 mobile.

Availability is the issue, as well as people often jumping in with questions about differences.

  • Seems great except for the battery, does this take USB-C? Wondering if a powerbank can solve this

    • Depends on how accurate the listing is vs the official lenovo website.

If website is correct then it is just your personal preference for 14" vs 15".

If ebay listing is correct than the 14" is slightly better as it is 12GB RAM vs 8

      • This one has 12Gb also…

  • These often leave out that they're WiFi 5 - looks like they're trying to get rid of older WiFi 5 stock.
