They're about the same price as the regular disc prices. Plus or minus couple dollars. Not exciting at all but good for those stuck with digital edition.

Only useful if someone has a big family (with multiple PS5's) and wanting those games right now.

Returnal, while fun for a while, gets pretty irritating when on every new biome you end up dying like 50 times because incremental upgrades you get from every partial run are SO SMALL and slow to stack up.
Also, visuals are just OK for 2021 - definitely below what I was expecting when new gen consoles were being advertised as a new quality.

I'd have to disagree with this person.
Returnal is hard, it's meant to be a difficult game. But the more you play the easier it gets, you learn how to play better but you also progress with weapon levels and unlock some permanent upgrades.

I've completed the game, died a bit early on but the further I got the less deaths I got.

Finished 3 of the biomes on my first attempt. but each to their own.

Also, it's beautiful, adaptive triggers are great and the overall atmosphere is incredible.

I don't believe the above commentator is the target audience for this game if this is their response.

      • Agreed with this. Got the Platinum for it the other day, and had an amazing time with it from start to finish. Yeah it would’ve been nice to have the option to restart the level instead of the act when you die, but that would take away from the satisfaction of finally beating a biome or boss. My GotY so far for 2021. Steep learning curve, but so rewarding once you get good, and if you’re dying 50 times a level that’s something you need to do. I didn’t die once on Biome 4-6 due to the trial and error I had in 1-3. It’s gorgeous to look at too, as well as making superb use of the PS5 controller. Phenomenal game for mine, but we all have our opinions :)

        • I love roguelikes and am curious about Returnal. My issue is the PS5 is the first console I've owned since PS1 so most of my FPS/gunplay has be done with a mouse the last decade or so.

I don't love shooters on controllers. Am I going to suffer with this game with that in mind?

          • @tdst-taboo: As with a lot of the great PS5 games it's a third-person shooter, but it has a lot to do with spacial awareness and dodging projectiles.

All of the boss fights are waves and waves of projectiles while you're shooting a boss. If that's too difficult for you to do this game is probably not for you.

          • @tdst-taboo: As a person that played console on d pad before thumbsticks were a thing, and then played fps on PC, I needed to learn to aim on controller. This is the game that is doing it for me.

If you continue hating shooting, then to answer your question, you might never like this game.

You'll suffer regardless of whether you're used to aiming on controller or not.

So, it's a strong buy from me (I'm on world 4 now, not finished the game).

I think if the game is intrinsically rewarding to play then the rouge-lite elements are not bothersome. Indeed, if you like rogue-lites you'll appreciate gameplay over everything. And the gameplay here is super tight, quick, varied, and fun.

      • Well, as the saying goes - to each their own.

For me the game was frustrating in Biome 3 beyond any reward it offered for completing it. Biomes 4-6 were on the other hand a walk in the park, which to me seemed like a badly scaled difficulty bump.

The atmosphere is incredible, sure, but the story does not really compliment it in any meaningful way. Early promise of this big mystery is later on just resolved with a typical "ones' personal hell" scenario.

      • I don't agree with them on the gameplay, I'm enjoying it in that regard. The combat is very satisfying and I thought the challenge tuning was pretty spot on.

I do agree with them the visuals are just ok, really didn't strike me as anything special or next-gen feeling, have to say it was a disappointing factor.

Nioh is cheaper at Amazon for a physical copy.

Sackboy is $64 or $74 for a physical PS4 or PS5copy respectively. The PS4 version comes with a free upgrade to the PS5 version.

The other games are indeed cheaper than Amazon currently.

How is it pointless? I own a disk version of the PS5 so learning about cheaper ways to get the games is valuable to me.

This definition of great sales price is … no there's not great. i'll wait for xmas sales anyhow. STEAM sales is on apparently

    • +4

Yeah mate because Steam sales are relevant in a PSN deal…

These may not be as low as physical but they're clearly lower than their digital RRP.

      Chill out.

    • +2

It’s a deal for those with a digital edition ps5 who don’t want to wait another six months. Not worth a neg.

  • -3

Also, miles morales unlimited ed was like $88 on amazon like 3 weeks ago. Disc version with both games.

    • +1

Do you go to Pizza Hut and ask for a Big Mac?

This is a digital sales post.

    • Is now ‘3 weeks ago’?

  • +3

Crazy that $93 is a 'bargain' price on a new game.

These $100+ RRPs on the new gen consoles are ridiculous. Waiting until Returnal gets under $70.

To be clear, not having a go at OP, this is a good price in the current market. Just think we're getting milked with these new market prices.

    • Same. Love to give Returnal and Demon Souls on PS5 (my first ever PS3 game lol) a go when I can afford it, but I'm still waiting for further price drops.

  • +4

You have to feel for those tricked into buying the digital in only ps5.

Sony is taking the piss with pricing this generation.

    • Unless they have a big family or lots of 'good' friends.

  • Been waiting for digital to at least be equal to physical. Bonus that is cheaper. Got his morning. Digital is good with SSD with quick game switching.
