Microphone for Recording Voice/Audiobooks in a Room on a Busy Street

Hello

I am looking for recommendations for a microphone to record voice/audiobooks.
My house is along a busy road and near a school, so its often noisy in the background.
Upon initial research, it seems like a directional microphone is what is suitable.

Can anyone recommend me some models numbers to purchase.
Doesn't have to be a bargain - am more just after the right tool for the job.

It also doesn't have to be the best in the market, just something good enough.
My recordings also don't need to be flawless, just something that won't be consistently full of vehicle noises.

During googling for directional microphone, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot in Australia.
I am wondering if this is because they go by another name here?

Thank you.

  • Look for the term cardioid (directional) or super-cardioid (very directional).

    • Excellent. Thank you for the tip.

  • I would go with the old industry golden boy shure sm58 and audio interface ie Steinberg UR12. You have to be really close to sm58 for it to pick up your sound nicely.

I would also invest in sound proofing your room a little bit and build DIY sound booth.
