PlayStation Vita Pre-Order ($349.95) with Free Ridge Racer Game - Free P/H

122

It's a shame the pre-order deals aren't as good as when the 3DS launched, this is the only PS Vita I can find with a free game. When bought separately Ridge Racer costs:

Game = $49.95
EB games = $48.00
Jb HiFi online = $44.00

I spoke with one of the Game stores and was told it included the same pre-order bonuses as EB and JB as below (though for some reason all retailers don't detail the pre-order bonuses on the website now when they did two days ago when I looked).

Limited edition PS Vita Blue In Ear Headphones
AUD$8 discount on a selected PS Vita game from PlayStation Store
PS Vita items for PlayStation Home on PlayStation 3
Exclusive early access to Frobisher Says! application for PS Vita
An exclusive PS Vita avatar

DISCLAIMER: When you're looking solely at dollar value it looks like a good deal (and it is). The problem is Ridge Racer isn't the series it used to be and if you're following the reviews online, Namco are certainly going lite on the usual content you would expect to find and have planned DLC to plug the holes (whether free/charged or mixture of the two have yet, to my knowledge, be announced). At the end of the day it's a free game, you'll get a week or two play out of it.

I'm only really posting this because a) there might be others who like me, didn't think to check Game and so would have missed considering this option as a pre-order and b) if there is enough interest displayed here maybe, just maybe, other retailers might want to up the ante…it's not too late…hopefully.

Bought mine cheaper when I was overseas in Dec with a free game and accessories. PS Vitas are not region locked.

not everyone is overseas are they but this is a good price in aus

I find it funny they negged you when you're telling the truth. Australia and New Zealand are getting shafted for Vita deals.

Meanwhile in the US for $299 they get the 3g/wifi model, with an 8GB memory card and a PSN Vita game.

      • not a valid reason for a neg though. If you provide us with a better deal then neg can be valid

Just don't get one from japan, apparently they don't put the triangle up top like the rest of the world

This is a ridiculous comparison. You're comparing countries of grossly-differing minimum wages, costs of living as a 1:1. $350 vs $300 isn't ideal, but it's reasonable, especially when Americans have to pay an additional ~10% Sales Tax in nearly every state, that people like you seem to forget about when going down yet another "GGRR!! Australian prices!" rant.

  • For those who want to buy Wipeout 2048 at launch - if you buy the 3G vita ($70 extra) you get a voucher for the game (~$55) when you connect to Vodafone (prices haven't been released but I'm guessing a minimum recharge will be $10) for free.

    Wifi Vita + Wipeout game retail = $350 + $55.
    Wifi+3g Vita + Free Wipeout + Required first recharge = $420 + ~$10.

    • i suppose you only get the voucher if you sign up to a vodafone contract which means you're paying at least $15-20 a month x 12/24 months…

      • I'm hoping not but we'll see. The wording is "connect & recharge"

      • From what I've read up, you should just be able to connect to a pre-paid plan which would give you 250mb for around $10 (5 pound in the UK) and they should send you the code to download Wipeout from the PSN.

Only pay for it once and you should still be in the clear… hopefully… i mean, it is vodafone, anything could happen

This Vita deal has been up for ages. Why bother posting it when it's so bad? I've heard rumours that DSE and Big W may be selling it for $299 on the weekend of its launch week but hey it's just a rumour.

Also arguably the worst game to get with your Vita, it has 4 cars and tracks, most of the game is purely DLC. GAME are giving it for free for a reason.

    • Because it's the best pre-order bonus OP could find, and if you're pre-ordering you may as well get something for free? I'm thinking about it (as my above post would indicate), and I very much doubt retailers on launch day would discount new console hardware for $50 which they probably don't make much off.

      • KMart had 3ds for 289 on launch day, I price matched that at jb hifi, I doubt the vita will be any different.

This is the best deal so far, but it ain't a bargain. Here's hoping for launch day discounts from big w or Kmart. I will hold out, this is definitely not worth the pre-order.

  • Ridge Racer Vita is a terrible game even worse than the 3DS one so you will play it once then sell/trade. I've seen some EB stores have a 3DS trade deal to get Vita wifi for half price which isn't bad you are getting $175 for the 3DS.

    • Ridge Racer Vita is a terrible game

      How do you know this?

      • Played it on my friends japanese vita. It is just the same boring game the last 50 times it was released.

  • I have that PS Vita pre ordered from Game and i pre ordered a 4GB PS Vita memory card from EB games. just 10 days left.

I dont really want to get it but I have $240 store credit at Game with nothing I want to spend it on. Im not much of a gamer anymore these days, just a shame i cant convert that to cash.

Might just end up getting the Vita and selling it.

    • Preorder a game put $100 store credit on it then pay the rest then next day return the game for cash.

      • Wouldnt the receipt show that I paid with store credit?

  • I heard that game are offering $30 trade in on ridge racer, you can get a PSN card with it or put that $30
    towards a better game.

  • Strand0410 I disagree with your argument completely. While there are valid differences between countries the fact is Australia always has, and unfortunately seems like it always will, be ripped off when it comes to consumer goods.

A lot of the price differences are simple cases of Price Gouging rather than a result of "higher minimum wages" and other arguments.

I agree with most people here that this is definitely not a bargain.

K-Mart, Big W, and Target will NOT stock the Vita at launch: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/02/three-major-australian-reta…

  • I tried to pre-order the Wifi only version at Game tonight but was told that from today, only the 3G version was available if I wanted to get it next week. I could have pre-ordered the Wifi version to get it in the second batch due for delivery to Game sometime mid-March. I wasn't expecting that. Might just pre-order it at JB HiFi now.
