Is Upgrading from Buds Plus to AirPods Pro Worth It?

Hey all
TLDR: Upgrading from Galaxy Buds Plus to Airpods pro worth it or waste of money?

Currently using Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus.
They do the job. But I am interested in getting some noise cancelling buds for my train commute.

Wondering if its worth the upgrade ($280).
I wouldn't be able to recover much from selling the galaxy buds I don't think as they only cost ~138 to begin with and no one wants to buy used earbuds.

I would get the recently released Sonys but $380 is a bit much for me for this item.

FWIW, I am on an Android device - and do realise I will miss a couple of things with the Airpods.
I have access to an iphone should I need to ever change some one time settings though.

The main reasons I want the AirPods Pro are they are apparently pretty comfortable (I currently have the Sony wh-1000xm3 and they get uncomfortable pretty quickly, noise cancelling and call quality - all of which are important to me.

Thanks

I am on an Android device

Then no. AirPods Pro are awesome on iPhone though.

    • Thanks for the reply. Any idea which features I will lose?
I am fine with not being able to see battery life etc.
I think from reading reviews I might lose the ability to remove the earbuds and have the audio stop, but I am fine with that.

Any other issues with them on android?

I use my airpods with my Google TV. Main feature I use that works like it does on my iPhone is the ability to tap one headphone and it pauses what I'm watching

        • I see I see. Hmm, trying to imaging myself without that feature and whether I could live with it.

          Thanks for letting me know!

@fd9: I should work on your Android. I can try it with the missus' Samsung if you want…or you could probably google it lol

@Danstar: Haha thank you I appreciate it.
I know what you mean by it - as the galaxy buds plus have the same feature (tap on it to stop playing). Just meant trying to remember how often I use it and whether I would miss it :)

From googling I think it does work on Android.

  • I'd probably look at the older generation Sony WF1000XM3 since you aren't on iOS.

    • Thank you for the reply. I did consider these but the big footprint of them is kinda a put off…. I know… I am being picky and silly.

I'm an Android user and own both the AirPods and the Sony WF-1000XM3.

FWIW, given that you can get the WF-1000XM3 for <$150 and the Airpods Pro are still around $300, I would go with the Sonys. They can be a bit finicky with the fit (you really have to try the different tips to find the best one), and I agree the case is a bit big, but they're better value.

I don't get why everyone seems to be negative about the AirPods with Android - I actually find that they work perfectly fine and have the same functionality as any other wireless headphones/earphones. There are probably some features that are missing (e.g. having the audio stop when you take out the buds), but I've not found any of these features to be dealbreakers.

    • Thanks for the info. Yea that's what I seem to have found from my research (i.e. that I wouldn't lose the features I use day to day with the AirPods on Android).

It wasn't so much the case for me that I disliked about the previous gen sonys - it was how big they are when wearing them. Reminds me of the old bluetooth headsets you put in one ear.

  • OP here:

"Single AirPod listening. Listening to music with a single AirPod is limited to iOS devices because it uses ear detection functionality. On Android, you need to have both ‌AirPods‌ out of the case for them to connect."

    https://www.macrumors.com/guide/airpods-android/

Damn. I didnt know this feature was missing.

  • What about buds pro?

  • No!
Get the Sennheiser MT2. Have a pair and a great bit of gear.
2 downsides. 1. can only connect to 1 device at a time. 2. $499 RRP… ($379 at present on Amazon).
If you can find a cheap set on sale on amazon or the likes, grab them!

  • To me, the most exciting feature of the Airpods Pro is Spatial Audio. Which only works with the more recent ios devices.

I don't have airpods yet, but am tempted. Ambience mode would also be very useful to me.
