These 1,000 Joobz can be redeemed from SMSFun’s Reward store for a wide range of products and vouchers, including $100 of prepaid credit with Optus OR $80 of gift vouchers from major stores (Bunnings, Coles, JB Hi-Fi, Woolworths Group Wish card, David Jones and Apple iTunes Store.

The full conditions can be found at http://www.smsfun.com.au/switch-terms.php.
Reading through these, the basic outlines look as follows:

- Only one service transfer per individual is eligible for this promotion
- Only successful transfers to the Optus network will be eligible for this promotion (they say they have the ability to check)
- Only Telstra, Vodafone and 3 Mobile services ported under this offer are eligible (Sorry, no TPG, Woolworths Mobile and other virtual mobile providers qualify)
- You are eligible for the additional contests only if you complete the relevant survey once you switch.
- If you don’t use the SIM once being ported to Optus, you may be deemed as not qualifying (and they could send the boogy man after you)

Samsung Galaxy 3 — obsolete handset from 2010.
Samsung Galaxy SIII (or S3) — Upcoming handset, probably May/June 2012, top of the line, best of the lot.
A big difference an "S" makes :-)
The prize is the obsolete SG 3 and not the SGS 3, so the competition is unattractive.

+6 votesLast time this deal was on (September 2011) got $2 Telstra SIM and ported to Optus. Took forever and lot of hassle but eventually got my Joobz and transferred thru to $80 Bunnings vouchers. One month later took up the Telstra Free $30 credit and ported back to Telstra. That's $110 for free so far. Now can I port this back to Optus and get another $80?
+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 21/02/2012 - 16:49 ¶In October ported a registered but unused $2 Vodafone SIM to Optus prepaid, got 1000 Joobz, 3 months later got 300 more for staying on Optus. Got 55 Joobz from another offer, so used 1100 + 220 Joobz to get $100 + $20 of free gift cards (Woolies, Coles, JB, etc). Plus everyday you login, you get an extra Joob. Worked great.
On another account, I did the same, but only ported to a registered but unused $2 Optus SIM, got the 1000 but no 300 loyalty Joobz.
Points are transferred after their system notices your telco changed, so must be registered with non-Optus for a few days before switching, for their system to determine you have ported number.

So if I can't dance, I'm in trouble huh? Yikes!
greenpossum on 21/02/2012 - 17:01 ¶You can always switch but you might have to pay your previous provider, so depends on your 3 contract, but I would guess yes.
jackofspade on 21/02/2012 - 17:50 ¶You need to be Switched to optus by 29 feb? I think thats going to be difficult to achieve.
brucefromaustralia on 22/02/2012 - 08:49 ¶That means paying for around $30 credit. I have enough mobile accounts - 6 numbers until recently, most to take advantage of deals like this, not make calls. I still have a $2 Optus SIM in a phone here, receives calls but can't make any as registered but never recharged. Got 1000 Joobz in October, for that phone, got another 100 free over time & ordered a $100 gift card (1100 Joobz) for total cost of $2!!
brucefromaustralia on 22/02/2012 - 10:51 ¶I did recharge another Optus SIM with $30 for 6 months use + got bonus 6 months access. Cost me 300 Joobz for that credit. SMSfun gave me 1000 Joobz + bonus 300 for staying connected. So was still 1000 Joobz up & had Optus phone for ringing occassional Optus calls for a year. That's how it worked last time.
brucefromaustralia on 22/02/2012 - 15:49 ¶I asked at Optus shop but was told I told I could not use that $10 recharge on a $2 SIM. They probably were wrong, like most advice they gave me. Still, I would not have got the bonus 300 joobz for staying connected for 3 months that way, making it a free recharge! Also could not use the joobz to buy a $10 recharge, only $29 & $30 available.
brucefromaustralia on 02/03/2012 - 19:58 ¶I said Optus said I could not use that $10 recharge on a $2 SIM. I pointed out Optus was probably were wrong, like most advice they gave me. Just an example of the poor advice given by Optus wanting you to buy more product. Never said it was not available.
Also, you may not need to recharge at all to get the Joobz - worked OK last time. But if there is the loyalty bonus of 300 joobz ($30) like last time, a $30 6 month recharge might be a better option, as I pointed out before.
As for using 100Joobz to pay for $10 recharge- you would need to buy the Joobz first, recharge, then get the 1000 for switching!! A bit complex.
brucefromaustralia on 22/02/2012 - 13:53 ¶Said this before - you must be on old telco for about 2 days (after joining) for their system to know who your telco is. Then change to Optus. Read the t&c.
They have handy system you can use to determine telco of a mobile number.
brucefromaustralia on 22/02/2012 - 18:29 ¶As it is posted, you fill in the recipient's name & address - so no.

7-eleven currently have Optus prepaid SIMS, both $2 (no credit) and $30 (on longlife mine included $30 MyCredit $20 MyBonus and $100 OptusMoney) for half price. That's $1 and $15 respectively.
I decided to pay $15 and get some credit to meet the SMSfun usage requirement. However, I do not know how SMSfun could check this. Last time (Sept 2011) I got $2 SIM and just made some calls to that number and my 1000 Joobz came thru okay.
brucefromaustralia on 24/02/2012 - 12:31 ¶No - register the $2 (vodafone) SIM online, which gives a number. No need to recharge, Check that number can receive a SMS (or ring it).
Register it on a new account at SMSfun, which means receiving a SMS code to set up account. Send your number free SMS to check it is registered with SMSfun.
Port that number to Optus after at least 2 days - check t&c.
Check SMSfun to see telco has changed from Vodafone to Optus - takes many days.
Recharge Optus account if necessary.
Worked for me last time.
brucefromaustralia on 24/02/2012 - 14:49 ¶True OzBargainer! That's what I did last time, except I was given a few free Vodafone SIM when I bought a mobile & great backpack for $14.50 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/50918. So $1 for 1000Joobz, built up another free 100, then got $100 gift card.
brucefromaustralia on 24/02/2012 - 15:04 ¶Also competition for year of free credit for those who switch.
