Just hid them all in the fresh fruit section of my local, right next to the apples so now people can have Apple apples.

  • Can you use whole GC’s to pay for these Apple GC’s?
I assume these can be used on Apple edu store?
New MacBook Pro’s supposed to be out very, very soon 🤞

    • +1

If whole GCs refers to Woolworths or WISH physical or digital gift cards, no. Woolworths Group locked down their POS a few years to stop that.

You should be able to use Apple gift cards to pay for items on Apple Education or EPP stores. There is nothing in the Apple gift card terms and conditions stating otherwise.

  • Just checking, can we use discounted Woolies GC to buy these Apple GC?

    • no

      • Thought so, was being hopeful. Cheers.

  • Can you use the Woollies reward points to then buy more iTunes vouchers? so 6000 points becomes $30 to buy another $30 iTunes card?

    • It used to work in the past but it's been disabled at least for other gift cards that had similar specials like this one

      • Damn, as there is the discount gone then.
Hopefully they bring back the usual %15 off, but im not holding my breath

  • Question…..can I buy these with Wollies e-gift card?

I am not using points to pay, but with 3% off e-gift cards

    • No to both (paying for Apple gift cards using either a WISH e-gift card or using points balance)

Both have been disabled quite some time ago

  • My closest woolies is a metro store. Doubt there will be that many gift cards to buy.

My household has two everyday rewards account and we only ever use one. Now I can’t find the second card….

  • Would paying for a new MacBook Pro with your Apple Card balance have implications if you are eligible to claim it on tax? Technically, I would’ve paid for the gift cards, and not the laptop (in a similar way I’d use QFF points to buy a new iPhone through the QANTAS store). Anyone got any wisdom on this one?

    • Mm good point. I didn’t think of that. I need to know as well.

    • +4

You get a tax invoice with your Macbook Pro purchase, it shows the Amount you paid, GST included, and payment type, can you use this tax invoice instead of the gift card purchase invoice for your Tax purpose ?

      • Yes. A gift card is just another payment method. The amount on your tax invoice from Apple is the amount you can claim on tax.

        https://community.ato.gov.au/t5/Personal-tax-questions/Gift-…

      • Yes, true. But the payment type will surely say “Apple Card balance” or similar. It will be in a dollar amount, unlike QANTAS points payment invoices. I’d still claim it myself, but don’t know what would happen if on the off chance I was audited

        • Just keep the receipts for the gift card.

          • @jasondinh: Yes. Keeping the receipt for the gift card purchase is ok. The fact you got all those bonus points is fine. The points received though for the purchase are in effect taxable as income as the transaction was of a business nature which related to your means to generate income. This is no different to earning frequent flyer points on a business flight where the frequent flyer points earned need to used to pay for more business flighrs otherwise you need to declare the frequent flyer points as income.

      • Saying that I salary packaged my iPhone (which was paid with gift cards from the him/her offer) and they salary packaged the cost of the phone (from jb hifi)

  • I wonder if they will get rid of old "iTunes" branded gift card in a sale soon. Any thoughts

    • They would not, because Australian App Store & iTunes gift cards were updated on 09 July so that you can use them to purchase products at physical or online Apple Stores.

I also noticed Coles and Woolworths stores around my area removing all App Store & iTunes gift cards recently and replacing them with Apple gift cards, so my guess is that Apple are slowly recalling unsold App Store & iTunes gift cards from retailers.

  • Is apple retail store price matching Amazon, JB? Then we can get extra discount.

    • +1

Yes, they price match up to 10% in store. Not sure about online retailers like Amazon AU, but certainly physical AU retailers. Confirmed it with live chat.

However to my understanding, because you have to physically go to an Apple Store to price match your product (they do have live chat online but I don’t know if you can price match a product there) you are only able to use up to 8 physical Apple Store Gift Cards to pay for it (so $1600 limit), whereas if you do a C&C online, you can buy a technically unlimited number of Apple Gift Cards (across different Woolies) and load them all into your Apple ID balance, and you use that balance to buy your product (C&C in store or delivery).

      • +4

Apple won't price-match over live chat but they will over the phone and you can place the order there. They told me they're able to accept gift cards and your Apple account balance for phone orders but I've never placed one myself so I can't verify. The JB Hi-Fi 10% off sale seems to have ended but the Good Guys one is running until the 18th and they'll match that.

        • +1

The ability to price match AND use Apple account balance would be a big win if possible — would be great to verify if it could be done with phone orders. If I do so, will update everyone : )

  • Can i buy using woolies gift card? I have woolies gc which I got with 4% discount. Ta!

    • No, Woolworths Group patched their POS systems a few years ago to stop the purchase of gift cards with gift cards.

      • Coles does not allow buy gift cards even with split payment these days, self checkout demands you go annoy store manager. Is Woolworths the same?

        • Woolworths Group patched their POS system so that it is not possible at all. I don’t think there is even an option of a duty/store manager to override the POS system.

Have you tried purchasing a gift card at a serviced checkout at Coles?

          • @WookieMonster: I tried purchase Coles Mastercard using split payment with debit cards, was trying consolidate few prepaid cards with leftover money, and kiosk sent me to store manager where she processed it manually.

            • @[Deactivated]: If you go to a serviced checkout at Coles, you can use split payments to pay for a gift card. You just need to find a checkout attendant who is willing to do split payments for you.

However, at Woolworths, the POS system is so locked down that there is no known workaround to allow you to purchase gift cards with gift cards. I don’t think they even allow any split payments when purchasing gift cards either, but I could be wrong on that last point.

              • @WookieMonster: Nope, when you scan your gift card/mastercard and push split payment on the terminal it sends you to store manager, checkout chicks can't override it.

Maybe we're talking about different gift cards though.

                • @[Deactivated]: Are you talking about self-service checkouts or serviced checkouts?

When I talk about serviced checkouts, I am referring to the checkouts where a single staff member is standing behind the counter, you place your groceries on the conveyor belt and then they pack your groceries for you.

I paid for third-party gift cards at Coles using split payments two weeks ago by going through a serviced checkout, so unless the POS system has been patched in the last two weeks, split payments at the serviced checkouts should be possible.

Self-service checkouts have blocked the split payments when purchasing gift cards for a few years now (at least at my local stores, anyway).

                  • @WookieMonster: OK, that makes sense. Do you know if other stores of Westfarmers group (Kmart/Target) programmed to be the same?

                    • @[Deactivated]: I don’t know, because I rarely shop at Westfarmers-owned stores. However, my hunch is that they are probably programmed differently, since they all use different POS systems.

I guess it will be up to one of us OzBargainers to find out!

        • Coles not possible anymore? Last time I tried pay the whole amount (including other items) with Coles GC, it worked. Few months ago, though.

    • No more double dipping Wollies said

  • The $200 image posted by the OP (https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/41480/90711/a981fec9-0…) says that the offer is valid between 11th and 17th of August

    • +1

Yes, but that’s the poster for the current gift card promotion.

If you look at the other Apple gift card posters, they list the 18 Aug - 24 Aug date range.

      • Got it. Thanks.

        • WookieMonster is correct. Here is a better image showing the terms.

  • -4

Woohoo, just in time to pay taxes with discount

    • +1

Good joke once, but probably dumb ozbargainers will take it for real.

Not that they can't reuse these to buy a nice phone.

      • +3

Good joke when it's not made on literally every Apple gift card discount post 😅

  • +1

Does anyone think this offer will repeated every few months?

  • Sorry if this is a stupid question - am I able to pay for YouTube Premium with Apple credit? :)

    • Yes you can, but you're probably better off subscribing directly and using Google gift cards or go the India route.

    • YT premium via iTunes is more expensive to begin with

  • Can you split payments when purchasing gift cards? Would like to get my 5x monthly ING transactions when purchasing one.

    • I don’t think split payments are possible when purchasing a gift card at Woolworths, but I am happy to be corrected.

My concern with you trying to achieve your five monthly transactions when purchasing one gift card is that ING may temporarily block your card, because you are trying to complete a lot of transactions in a very short period of time.

    • You can even buy a $1 chocolate bar and split payment like 20c each time with self serve checkout. Done this couple of times and no issues at all.

      • 1c is the minimum qualifying transaction so 5 of those is all i do ;)

        • Yeah same. Often I will get a looong receipt with 5x $0.01 transactions.

    • Yes you can, just don't go a self serve checkout that takes card only, otherwise the supervising staff will need to need change of payment method

  • Can we use the Coles MasterCard Giftcards that were on sale a few months ago to buy the Apple gift cards? and let's say I want to buy $200 Apple gift card, can I split the payment at Woolworths self-service terminal to pay by 2 x $100 Coles MasterCard gift cards? Thank you.

    • Yes you should be able to. Coles MasterCards are just prepaid credit cards.

      • I think the bigger question is whether you can do split payments to pay for a gift card at Woolworths. Last time I tried at a self-service checkout (which was quite a while ago), I could not.

        • You can at Woolworths it doesn't cause a problem anywhere other than CARD ONLY SELF SERVE CHECKOUTS

    • or you can just get 2*$100 card not $200 card hahaha and ready another woolies rewards card

  • Is there terms and conditions stating 10 per transaction and you can make multiple transactions of 10x cards?

I can walk in walk out 5 times to get 50x$200 apple cards and get 300k Wollies points?

    • +1

That should be theoretically possible, as someone commented in the thread for this week’s Woolworths gift card deal that they bought 22x $100 gift cards across three separate transactions and got the bonus points for all 22 gift cards.

The maximum number of Everyday Rewards dollars you can have on your account is $4500, so assuming your redemption option is not Qantas points, you should be fine. There is no mention on the maximum number of Qantas points you can earn when converting from Everyday Rewards points to Qantas points…

The bigger problems will probably be:

      • Finding 50x $200 gift cards in stock anywhere - you’ll most likely need to visit multiple stores across multiple days to find 50 gift cards. (Imagine if you end up being a COVID superspreader in your quest of gift cards…)

      • Convincing staff to let you purchase more than $1000 in gift cards in a transaction.

      • Not triggering any suspicions of fraud from Woolworths or your card provider(s).

I would also wait to see whether the variable value Apple gift card is also part of this promotion. Those gift cards can be loaded with up to $500 on a single card, and the terms and conditions on the posters do not exclude the variable value gift cards.

Wait, why do you need $10,000 in Apple gift cards?

      • To buy that sweet Mac Pro. I’m no content producer but I’d love one in my office as I think it is a piece of art.

      • Just saying….
But $10 is just 5 new iPhone 13s. Or maybe 4 if you go for the largest variant

      • +1
        • Thanks for the link.

Confirmed variable card will have 30 x value worth of points.

      • Convincing staff to let you purchase more than $1000 in gift cards in a transaction.

Isn't the upper limit for customers $2K worth of gift cards (10x $200) in one transaction?
IIRC, for staff members the limit is $1K.

        • I was previously told by a staff member the limit was $1000 per gift card transaction, but that was a while ago, plus I guess you shouldn’t always believe what the staff at supermarkets tell you.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Over $1000 for any transaction, the woolies checkout system asks if you want to input an ABN.

Staff like to record your drivers license number (not that they can do anything with it) in this section.

            • @cwongtech: Had a customer in front of me trying to buy 8 x $500 gift cards. (That's $4000 GC in 1 transaction) staff was asking him his ABN business details etc.
And i believe he got full discount per percentage

Shocked to see Woolworths allowed the sale, (store said itself you need to split payment to buy this many gc)

but probably his Rewards card getting suspend i am seeing that coming probably.

              • @USER DC: Why, limit is 10 cards?

                • @Fancydancer: I dont know may be $4000 triggered a alarm ??
Like other comments said 1000$ is a trigger alarm
But yeah store said split transaction so only then you can get this many gift cards otherwise not in 1 transaction

                • @Fancydancer:

                  Why, limit is 10 cards?

Limit is 10 cards per transaction

The discount isn't a straight up discount, it's in the form of WW points

        • Is there a terms and conditions page that specifies the upper limit for customers?

        • So you can't do $500 x 10 cards? Not that I wan't that many. I'm looking for $500 x 3 cards.

    • I don't think so the boys already have em :)

  • There aren’t any $200 cards but the $20-$500 cards available.
If I nominate $200 as an amount on the $20-$500 card, would I still be eligible for the 6000 points?

    • +1

I have seen $200 Apple gift cards at a couple of Woolworths stores, but it may not be available at your local stores.

The terms and conditions on the poster do not specifically exclude the variable value gift cards (unlike the last iTunes gift card deal from Woolworths), so there is a chance it is included in this promotion.

The only way to check for sure is to scan a variable value gift card and (before you pay) see whether the POS system comes up with a message saying you’ve earned more than 2000 Everyday Rewards points.

      • i didn't saw the $200 from the woolies next to my apt but did actually find another store 7 mins away from my apt they got so many $200 one. I recon you call some store as back up let them check the stock incase the $20~$500 card is not in activity

    • +3

Yes, variable cards seem to be included at 30x bonus points (going off terms in the catalogue).

      E.G $500 load will provide 15,000 rewards points, $200 will get 6,000.

      • So there are actually variable cards? Never knew that… Is there a maximum amount you can load? I want to get $4,000 worth to get two new iPhones next month.

        • I am not 100% sure as I haven't looked yet, but going off the terms calling it out specifically and the user above mentioning they saw it, seems as though it exists. Usually variable load cards have a maximum of $500 per card.

        • Yes, I spotted the variable value gift cards at a Woolworths store last week. You can load between $20 and $500 on each variable value gift card.

          • @WookieMonster: Just dropped by my local woolies and they have $20, $50, $100 and variable cards but they’re all behind the counter where the cigarettes are.

            Variable cards take $20-$500.

Guess I can’t drop in Tuesday night and hide them somewhere to pick up Wednesday morning lol

            • +1

@zzzman: Think of it this way, the store has already hidden the cards for you lol

Just don’t pick up a $20 fixed value gift card by mistake…

              • +2

@WookieMonster: Just need to get up early on Wednesday and do a beeline towards the ciggie counter and hope no fellow ozbargainers live in my area lol

            • @zzzman: bro Tuesday is too late i plan this evening hahah

  • There are apple cards which allow you to load credit between $20-$500. Would you get points on these too?

    • +1

      Apparently, yes.

      • That’s cool. Fingers crossed. Planning to buy a MacBook Air m1 From education store at some point

  • it's time to use the Coles discounted Master Cards for these, 20% off new iPhone MacBook Pro etc LOL

  • Anyone else living in one of the hotspot LGAs where their local woolworths constantly have cases? :(

    • VIC here, stay safe bro

      • +2

Thank you, hope you stay safe too! Hopefully they’ll bring this deal back when we return to normal!

  • -4

I'll finally get a break with the ATO with this deal seeing as they want the value of my debt paid back in apple gift cards.

  • Should we be concerned that the just released catalogue for this week only shows $50 and $100 cards, and says "….on all denominations of Apple Gift Cards pictured " ??

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/3pp7lx5v1wovji5/Screen%20Shot%2020…

    • In all fairness, it does say at the very end of the text at the bottom:

$30 gift card = 900 Bonus Points and Variable Load = 30x Bonus Points

It is also a bit weird to say it excludes the $20 gift card, because it was never pictured.

I will concede the $200 gift card is not mentioned anywhere in the catalogue, even though it is shown clearly in the OP.

I think the use of the word pictured is a mistake, but I guess we can only confirm that on Wednesday.

    • Good pickup!

They explicitly exclude $30 and include variable card but doesn’t mention $200

My local Woolies metro didn’t have $200 on display today.

      • it's depending on the location , there are two woolies next two me , one have $200 another didn't have it. I'd saying try some big store that could help

  • Assuming the iPhone 13 128GB will be the same price ($1429) as the iPhone 12 128GB, if I stack 7 x $200 GCs and 1 x $30, I can get an iPhone 13 128GB (assuming releasing in Sep) from apple and 42,900 rewards points? As my go to grocery shop is woolies, I am effectively getting $210 store credits and 900 points, making the phone only costs $1219.

This seems like a pretty good deal for woolies shoppers, would this work or did I miss something?
