Gigaset C470IP Cordless IP Phone $129 from Harvey Norman, Mt Gravatt

100

Hi guys,

First post!! Hope I am posting a good one.

Was on the lookout for this phone for a while. Best price I could find online was in the $150 range. Walked into Harvey Norman today just to physically see the device. As I held the box on my hand, an attendant came with the markdown price sticker.

Haven't really found this on their website, so posting the photo instead. Not sure if the deal is at every HN, or just Garden City, Mt Gravatt. They only had about 3 left. There were a couple of other models there as well, but I didn't pay too much attention. I think its an extremely good phone, with heaps of positive reviews on Whirlpool, and this seems like a good price. Hope someone finds it useful.

Cheers.

I own a couple of different models of Siemens gigaset phones and I can't fault them. That particular model is a few years old, but it won't stop you doing a great job.

  • dont you need a voip account to use them?

Primarily for Voip, but they do fixed line as well.

Have had all sorts of problems with crap cordless phones… Panasonics, Uniden, … hopeless.

Have had a set of Siemens for a couple of years now and they are great!!! Very clear audio, well made and easy to use.

I have seen a few of the Siemens sets discounted for clearance at HN's .. can't understand why they would be discontinuing the best cordless phone brand on the market?

For a long time i was a huge voip enthusiast (still am to some degree), siemens do a great job, one of the better offerings in the voip landscape imho.

However i've done away with "landline" phones because they offer 1/3 of what my mobile phone can do. Once i realised i could connect my mobile (and every other mobile phone in the house) direct to my "landline" voip account i've never looked back (i even have an old android phone without a sim that is eclusively a wifi "landline" phone).

I imagine my setup is a little more complex then the average (i use asterisk at home that is the gateway and provides a bit more then just "voip"), but even without any of that, imho, its the best choice. One big plus to it all is that your mobile has your contact list which makes its worth looking into if your getting your phone service via voip (which alot do these days).

If nothing else its one less device sucking on the electricity.

What app do you find best on your Android phone to use your voip account? I'm guessing you use your home wifi still..

      • I'd like to know also as I found mobile phones crap for voip, that said haven't tried it for a couple of years.

Have owned the gigaset C4701 for quite a while and it is the best cordless we've owned…

Harvey Norman Chatswood regularly have these on sale. There were selling the C470IP for $80 and the A580IP for $68 in the post Christmas sales.

  • I have one using Penneytel voip and it works great. I tried Penneytel app over wifi (on fast cable) on the iPhone and it gave crap quality.

i've had one of these sets for a few years now and cant fault it. i used it for a bit for voip, but primarily for a landline. the seperation of the base and the actual phone is a great advantage - you can put the base in a box or cupboard where the landline is and the phone somewhere more accessible. i bought one from the uk for twice this price, so this is a steal. the aussie support also sent me a free au power adapter, although they primarily deal with dealers and not end users. highly recommended buy - its featureset is great.

  • Their '580IP used to cost $129 from, eg, MyNetFone (more recently, they make you take on a monthly pre-paid plan that can cost $5 / month or more)

Now, $149 (incl $5 credit for MyNetFone), eg, here (part-way down):

Don't know the 470IP but the 580 IP could work with up to 1 or 2 VoIP -providers- PLUS a wired phone line, as well as being an Intercom, between cordless handsets.

    So, I'd prefer a 580IP, myself.

H-N used to stock seimens, mostly non-VoIP on the shelf… maybe one low-end VoIP on a good day… high prices.

I'd check www.MyNetFone.net.au to see if they offer any 580IP's, some kits had up to 3 or 4 handsets for a price -under- $200 (from memory).

    YMMV.

  • We use a 580IP over a WiFi connection to ADSL2+ router & it seems to work fine (mostly), but when we use it, we're pretty much the -only- WiFi & Internet user on the router.

Had some problems using a DoDo "unlimited" connection, connected to router via WiFi (It would drop the connection - at random times - in the midst of a call).

Worked fine on TGP (wired to router) & on an Optus-supplied router & service.
