  • How about charging $9 for the case and providing free shipping and handling? :)

  • or $8.98 with free shipping.. ^ beaten by 20 secs :)

Or better still, $0 with free pickup. Well I can hope…

The parcel weight of the item is 760g.
Normally AUSPOST charges us $11.45 via Regular Parcel.
We just try our best to save the postage for our customers

Well the only difference between our proposal and yours appears to be the following lines in the T&C:

      Warranty Policy
      11. If refund is determined by Ozstock to be necessary, we will NOT refund original shipping cost.

      Return Policy
      5. Refund not includes original shipping cost, and refund method to be determined by Ozstock.

The interesting part is that under legislation for statutory warranty, return freight is payable by the vendor. Check with your state Office of Fair Trading. So stating that on their website is actually actionable.

    • There is no pickup allowed on this item, therefore it is actually not free or 0.00

The only way you can get the item is to pay shipping, which is standard Ozstock practice.

Personally Ozstock have just crap, except the dolphin pocket knife bring that back!

      • I did buy 3 led torches from them a while back, complained via email all 3 lenses were smashed (no damage to torch?) Never got a reply, just "thanks for comming"

    • Hey Ozstock,
Given that you guys also sold some of these caddys with a 320g hard drive in it, can you give some advice as to how to actually get these caddys to work? I bought two of them and can't get either to work. Here's what I've done thus far.

      • Got a 320g hard drive that I've confirmed is working (in a different caddy)
      • Put it into caddy 1. Plugged it in.
      • For a second Windows 7 said "found new hardware" then "new hardware failed to install correctly"
      • Tried the driver disk, computer doesn't read it. Interestingly it does read on an XP machine.
      • For what it's worth, can't find the drive under "Manage Drives" either. In fact the hard drive isn't even physically spinning.
      • UPDATE:
Well I've tried everything that I can think of. Got a tad further but still no luck

        • If I plug it into a Win7 machine I can see it in Disk Management but I can't initialize it. Attempting to gives an I/O error (on both caddys)

        • If I plug it into WinXP I can't see it in Disk Management, but I can see it in Device Manage. If I then Populate the drive it just gives 0mb accross the board.

Frankly I've already spent too much time on this. If OzStock doesn't explain how to set this up I'll be sending them back and asking for a refund (of the postage).

It would have been far nicer if they at least included set up instructions.</size>

A few years back, under $10 (including delivery) for an external case would have been really good value. In particular because you could save a lot of money by getting a drive and putting it in a case yourself….. now however frequently an external drive costs less than a raw drive. Case (so to speak) in point - 2TB WD 3.5” USB2.0 Element Desktop costs $129 at msy.com.au, but the cheapest 2TB WD Green drive there costs $132. Maybe not exactly the same drive, but close enough to make you wonder why it costs $3 more to not get it with a case…..

So, maybe handy if you have an old drive you want to still be able to access but……. a thanks but no from me.

    • Indeed. Cheapest 1TB 2.5" HD is $138.00 from Greenbox IT. Now add $9 for this and you get $147 for a portable 1TB USB2 HD. I recently just got a WD USB3 1TB portable for $141.

If you're buying new you're better off getting a done set rather than seperate bits.

      • Sort of a digression, but bave you any experience ordering from GreenboxIT? I am considering buying a SDHC card from them and picking up next time I'm in the area. Their prices look good and not having to go into the city is a plus.

        • Never ordered from them so no idea, sorry. They just happened to have the lowest price under the "1TB 2.5" SATA" search string on static ice.

        • Just dont expect pickup without ordering ;)

GreenboxIT = North Shore Computers Mosman

Note that they charge a fee for pickup.

Whirlpool reports widely varying experience with this outfit. Some users swear they will never buy from them again.

          Personal experiences

          1. Ordered on Monday. HDDs needed back ordering. Package arrived Friday in a loosely packed box. Worried about damage in transit but all HDDs survived.

          2. Ordered on Tuesday. Package arrived Thursday in a well packaged box.

          3. Ordered on week 1. Telephoned GbIT to confirm they have stock on hand. Yes, they have stock. Package arrived week 3 after two more telephone calls. My client considered cancelling the order.

        • Thanks for that info. If they charge for pickup, it will make the item that I want ($13) uncompetitive so I won't buy in that case. Otherwise I may try them and see, since I'm not in a hurry to have the item in my hot little hands.

    • Have a 500GB hard drive taken from a faulty PVR so this should be ideal for me.

      • Now thats rare, usually its the HDD

        • Cheap PVR kept forgeting schedules and sometimes wouldn't record. Maybe the HDD is faulty but I won't know until I put it in a case and see if I can use it as an external drive. I took the PVR apart and couldn't put the HDD back in. The PVR is now a good STB with dual tuner.

Hard drive warranty is voided if case opened on external drives. So the manufacturer needn't worry about all those who do. Probably works about better providing a case worth near nothing and not having to honor the warranty for the majority of people lured into getting a free external case and saving a few bucks.

  • I need a USB case for a potentially dodgy drive - this will be perfect.

  • there are cheap cases from DX too so…

    • Yes, and they may take months to send them. Ordered a Dock for HDD about a month ago and still haven't received it fro DX. Fail!

  • why don't they charge say $2 each + Bundled shipping.
so we can order more than 1, max 4 per customer or something.

    • Cos then if any of them broke they might have to give you a refund.

  • Anyone having trouble with these caddys? I bought two of them and can't get them to function at all. Further the driver disk (which I shouldn't need anyhow) can't be read.

    Thinking they're both DOA.

    • I couldn't get mine to work either. It did work for about a minute but then stopped and I can't get it to work on other computers i have. I wasn't sure if it was a faulty disk or not. I'll try it with an old Windows 98 machine this weekend and report back.

Update: Plugged it into my laptop running Windows 7 and it is now working. Make sure you turn the power on BEFORE plugging the USB cable into the computer.

      • Well that only lasted a few hours. Shut down and started up again and now can't see the drive or files that I transfered to it. Not happy!
