    51% off

    of what rate ???

    • 100%

  • +1

    WA specific?

  • +3

    WA ONLY

  • +12

You know we are paying way too much when a company can offer 51% discount and still make money. This is not right for essential services.

    • -6

That is socialism. You are in a capitalist society. These company don't owe you anything and it is their right to make money. If you don't like that you can choose their competitor. Competition is the pro of capitalism.

      • That's not true, its called corruption. When public assets, paid and built by the people is sold of to private companies for little or nothing. THAT is the definition of corruption. The electricity belongs to us and we should only be paying maintenance and Supply charges ONLY.

    • +1

      I think you've touched someone's nerve! XD

    • Yeah back to 10 years ago Alinta was the only gas provider. When Kleenheat finally got into the market I asked Alinta if it would match what Kleenheat had to offer and Alinta said no. LOL recently Alinta asks if I wanna go back to them by offering something similar to all other competitors have been charging for the past 10 years.

    • Believe it or not there are HEAPS of people who don't have discounts/minimal discounts on their gas/utilities simply because they can't be bothered. On a centerlink group, this person was complaining about her $1000 gas bill but she didn't have any discounts. Workmate also "cbb" when I told her about a discount even though it was a 5 Min process just to change. Wonder if most seniors would also fall under that.

  • Must be certain parts of WA (or the website is trash) …

Entered my address in Perth's northern suburbs (6027)

"Sorry, it doesn't look like we currently supply energy to your area."

    • +1

It says that for mine too even though I'm a customer, I have to log in and click through to change plans. But if you contact live chat they can sign you up through there.

    • Are you selecting gas only or electricity? They only do gas to WA.
I'm in 6026 and been with AGL for 3-4 years at a guess

      • Yep gas only. Not a great start when they can't get simple things like "whether you can be a customer" correct.

  • N.B. 6.15¢ account-keeping fee.

    • They all charge an account fee.

  • Careful of AGL, great at ripping elderly people of. Probably the most dishonest energy provider in Australia.

    • +1

Can you provide an example? I mean based on a metered read, set rates not sure how you get ripped off.

Kleenheat on the other hand, I hated with a passion. They estimate your usage and debit monthly amounts and claim 'we don't charge you if we underestimate', then the next month it will be a huge overestimate and debit amounts. never knew how much I was paying and they don't seem to give you back the money when they over estimate.

        • Their base rates change without notice
        • estimates are always overestimated poorly
        • late fees are excessive even they are at fault
        • if you look closer they have unknown fees sometimes
        • getting the money back takes a while and there's a limit of 5 years if that's the first time you noticed it.
And this will all happen if you don't pay attention, i.e. elderly people. Go with AGL if your happy with them but all you have to do is look at their gross profit relative to other energy marketing competitors and realise they are ahead of the pack because they are ripping people of.
  • So the rates shown must be before the 51% discount as they are significantly higher than what I pay to a competitor in WA?
Post could be a lot clearer on this. The situation is not helped by AGL's un-user-friendly website… When I put my WA address in it responds that they don't supply my area - which based on other posts, may not be correct.

    • Yes I would take it as pre-discount pricing. Which provider are you with? I've just looked up Kleenheat and rates were the same. I remember when I was comparing gas plans it was pretty much very very similar across the board so it just makes sense to go with the one offering the highest discount.

    • The prices at the top are the standard RRP set by the government, and paid by people who can least afford it.

35% off that is normal, as long as you remember to renew.
So 51% is good, except AGL adds on a 7c/day "account fee" they made up. Still slightly cheaper than Origin for me, even without Prime.

  • So it’s 51% discount off the above charges or those charges are after the discount?

    • I would take it as pre-discount

Considering the Scarborough LNG project will be producing as much as they are stating you would imagine gas would be almost free less the service charge. And we would all be running LPG in our cars again but no….no one messes with oil. Surprised its got so little notice because it's also estimated to produce 5x as many emissions than Adani will and we heard about that protests to that plant on the news 3x a week

The moment you go to leave your gas company in WA, watch them fight for you. Went to leave alinta a few months ago and was told as I was confirming my service ending that they would offer me 40% off with $50 credit. I then had to call Kleenheat who offered me the same but just stayed with alinta so save the hassle. I was on 25% off previously. Utilities in WA are an overpriced rort

  • I’m coming to the end of the 12mths. Has anyone experienced AGL extending this discount?

    • +1

It's 56% now, look at my latest agl post (marked expired but I still see it advertised). You can change anytime

      • Thank you so much!
