Deliveroo Don't Deliver, They're Deliverubbish

Pre-ordered an important lunch for 13 people the night before for a meeting I was running so I wouldn't have to worry. Booking was for 12-12.30 delivery. Deliveroo took my money of course.
11.45am that day I noticed no response from the restaurant. I rang the restaurant, no answer.
Tried to contact Deliveroo but there's no real direct way to do that. Emailed them marked urgent.

Rang the restaurant again and they had no record of the booking because they don't use them.

** So the booking could never have been fulfilled **

I re-email Deliveroo at 12.00. I re-email them at 12.10. In the meantime I'm running around looking for food for 13 people.
At 12.45 (15 minutes after their 'latest delivery time') they email me that my order was cancelled by the restaurant.

Rubbish. It was never able to be made.

They assure me that the pending charge will be cleared in 1-3 business days. Over $200 they should never have charged that they had half a day to recognise wasn't able to be ordered and then blame on the restaurant, taking zero responsibility nor apologising for their mistakes and not responding to my email until way too late.

I spoke with their 'customer support' who are very good at reading scripts.
No recognition at all of the mess they'd put me in.

Why did you order for 13 people through Deliveroo? Madness. If the lunch was that important, you'd call the restaurant directly to make the order.

    • Absolutely!

If any services, including ordering directly. I would have tried beforehand to know if I would have confidence, especially if it is an important event. If the food was any good or delivery reliable, or recommendations from others that have ordered prior.

Ordering from an untested service, OP’s experience illustrates why… thanks OP the life lesson!

HAHAH, was that order like at a McDonald's, Hungry Jack's or some other sort of Fast food restaurant? or a general typical family owned restaurants ( or the ones that arent usually understaffed).

If it was a fast food restaurant, i can only imagine them hating the order and probably so much wanting to cancel the order, bloody 13 people, over $200 worth of order. A fast food restaurant (i.e. usually always understaffed) can never be happy with such order, probably restaurant busy in store so much that cannot make such a big order in a short time, and delivery drivers keeps changing etc. causing you delays. Most likely

    • It was wokinabox.
When I rang them, they didn't know anything about the order because they don't have any relationship with Deliveroo. No matter what I'd ordered they wouldn't have known.

      • My guess is wokinabox having issues with deliveroo setup. (Its not uncommon that restaurant put themselves on delivery service before even getting their tablet activated or connected to WiFi)

To my knowledge, DOORDASH is the only service where the restaurant literally has to confirm the order (if they don't then driver doesn't get there, and order is going to be cancelled), this is unlike all the other platforms services

So, is this a forum discussion or a rant?

No delivery service is dependable enough to use if you absolutely need the food at a specified time. You should always contact the restaurant directly and organise to have someone pick it up, or pick it up yourself.

    • I wouldn't have minded if it were late.
I do mind that it never really existed because they never got my order because they don't use Deliveroo.

  • Got confused when you said they’re listed on Deliveroo but don’t use them..

    • Yes, me too. That's the problem. Deliveroo listed them, but don't have any relationship with them.

      • I find that hard to believe.. I'm on deliveroo and personally had to send them every detail to be on it. You ordered $200 worth on stuff through deliveroo and they take a 30% cut(+gst). $66!

Have you walked into wokinabox to see if they have a deliveroo machine?

I worked in a FF restaurant, (NOT WOKINABOX) they were on menulog, tablet wasn't working at times, or when it was likely arrived damaged.

In these cases restaurant itself doesn't know about the order what soever, they end up getting delivery drivers and telling them they cannot make the order, some of them were a pain in as*.

Also ended up getting smashed with customer calls, only to tell them restaurant cannot do anything about their order ATM, because they paid to menulog or delivery service they need to contact them for a refund.

Could it be that the wokinabox you called didn't have them but another maybe nearby wokinabox did have Deliveroo?

    • Just looking at it, this is most likely! Didn't realise there was 10+ in Adelaide! There's atleast 2 on deliveroo that I can see.

  • steven marshall wokinaboxgate lol

uberEats is a bit more reliable, im guessing you must have had some good discount code to take the risk.

  • Try being in lockdown for months, just be grateful you can have a gathering of that many at all.

  • +1

If they give me codes, I'll order using them or any other middleperson, but that's it.

and I'll go pick up the food myself, because I don't like it cold and I don't want to support the BS gig economy that legally pays below minimum wage (effectively) and robs workers of benefits and restaurants of their profits via shittily designed apps and nothing more.

    Last supper irl.

    • I would have lashed out with 13 X $2 KFC large chips .

  • 13 people? Nah mate, that's catering. Call the restaurant direct the day before, they'd probably come in and set up too.

Are you saying a restaurant can't make 13 meals? It's not a charity.

  • Now you know why office admin exists…

  • Lunch meeting and you ordered wokinabox, and then KFC…?! Tried your local lunchbar/bakery or god forbid a subway? A few rolls/finger sandwiches and/or sushi and you're set

    • My biggest issue is that the food had to be individually packaged (ie boxed) due to our COVID management plan.

  • Deliverubbish? 'Roobish' might of been better

  • Lol you checked at 1145 am on the day 🤣🤣

Know how you feel tho as use to book cabs a few days in advance to get me to the airport at 5am.

Even after calling everyday to confirm. Each morning would come and no taxi… Then made dash and stress to airport lol

Not fun. Learnt my lesson. But lot of unnecessary stress
