Cashrewards Won't Pay Because I Don't Have My Old Phone Number

So I signed up for an ozbargain deal where you get cashback on an Amaysim mobile. The amaysim spammed the hell out of my inbox, and subcontinentals spammed the hell out of my actual phone number, so I stopped using the service.

Now I'm two sim cards removed from when I signed up to CashRewards. I can get into my account, I can use their service to gain them money, but if I ask to be paid out to a previously-verified bank account it suddenly it asks for 2fa to my old old number. Then there's a helpful link "no longer have access to this number? click here". I clicked and got sent around in circles with patronising "is it plugged in and turned on" type computer-generated answers. Finally I chose "other" and was able to put in a request but there's a high volume of dissatisfied customers already in line.

Does CashRewards actually pay out or is it just another scam selling your personal data and will only pay you to be quiet if you kick up enough of a fuss?

Personally never had a problem, cashed out about ~$112 with them so far

Have you tried contacting them to update the MFA number? Surely they can verify your identity and update it on their end.

That's why never keep any money with a company if possible (in this case as soon as money is over 10.01 withdraw all of it).
Then worst case scenario, loosing $10, ? simply create a new account in that case if they are not really willing to help you out, tell them that will be only option you'll have if they don't let you have access to your account

CashRewards are great. I've never had an issue getting payment.

There was a misunderstanding over 1 payment and I contacted customer service. They went above and beyond to help me and pay the "reward".

They sorted my mum out. You have gone into this very negatively before even giving them a chance.

I have been paid out newly $2k. I wish all scams did that.

Haven't had any issues with them paying me out (about $1200 worth so far). But I haven't changed my number since 2002.

    • But I haven't changed my number since 2002.

That reminded me of some old phone plans from back then, Vodafone with no flag fall 1c/second calls, and Optus? calls to the same network free 20 minutes on Sundays.

      • Yep, I was on Vodafone No Plans! Good times.. Until they introduced a flagfall …

Hi. Always saddens me how some jump into forums for help immediately assuming scam. Anyway, please turn on messaging in your OzB settings and PM me. I’ll be able to sort this out. Thanks.

    • Not your fault; but bad experiences from competitors (SHOPBACK cough cough) would indicate there is indeed a real threat of scamming us

Haven't had issues with CW paying out even when change of number(s). OP you write all this but too lazy to contact them to sort it out

  • Lifetime rewards: $4,625.39 and have shares in cashrewards. I hardly doubt they would put their reputation on the line like this.

      have shares in cashrewards.

      Ouch

      • Maybe he got cashback on buying shares!

  • I've had about $2k paid out via CR over the years with very few issues (and the two issues I've had have been resolved).

I'm happy to keep supporting them.

  • Thanks OP. You just reminded me to withdraw another $100 accumulated in CashRewards. I have withdrew 3 times from CR with no problems at all. You do need the 2fa as a code to your mobile number so why don't you update your mobile number with CR?

    Tl;dr:

    • OP forgot to give current phone number to CR.
    • Realised the number is needed for withdrawal.
    • Needed to wait for helpdesk to reply, not happy Jan.
    • Accused CR as scam.

    Good read.

I'm foreshadowing OP will edit post with "remove / delete this mod"
