    Same deal as previous codes:

This promotion code is valid only for new Plex Pass subscriptions and cannot be applied to existing subscriptions or for subscription plan upgrades.

    • Ive previously had the free trial, and was still able to use this code for another

    I got this error.
    Gateway Rejected: fraud

    Lifetime + One month = Lifetime :(

List it in your legal will.

Now just need a deal on free legal wills…

I'm here just waiting for a sub $100 lifetime deal. I should have jumped on to one of the other deals and they've shut down the Brazil loophole.

    • +1

Is the Brazill loophole to obtain el paquete?

      • Not too sure what that means… Buying via Brazil meant 20-30% discount due to currency differences.

        • 😂Not sure it's even a Brazillian thing, but google el paquete for context.

Not sure I'd buy even at 30% off, but if they came anywhere near the deal I get for YT Premium (179 ARS per month) I'd be right there

    • +1

They may have one come Black Friday

  • +3

I got the lifetime plex… imho its not worth it…

Their support for devices is rather sub par… and they use your subscription to sell content to you.

I just want good support for devices…

    • +11

What devices do you use that they don't support?

In their field they are leagues ahead, light years ahead of any competition so it's quite hard to make the argument their level of device support it poor…

      • +1

        GET JELLYFIN!!!!

        https://jellyfin.org/clients/

The clients are totally available and not coming soon!!

You don't like that? Good thing it's open source and you can code it yourself.

        • +1

Jellyfin is really bad FYI, especially with things like ASS subtitles.

          • +5

            @Cronium:

            ASS subtitles.

            They stink

          • +2

@Cronium: Same with Plex though? Whenever I put on ASS subtitles, it drops to 0.4Mbps SD streaming even though everything is hooked through ethernet at home…

            • @DreadPirateRoberts: You need to disable burning of subtitles. Nearly every official Plex client supports rendering ASS subtitles (some better than others) locally.

In Plex under Settings, go to "Player" and change the "Burn Subtitles" option to "Only image formats". This will still burn PGS and SUB subtitle formats, but should pass through ASS subtitles.

nb. I know that this says it only affects Plex Web player, but in my experience it also affects their mobile apps. YMMV.

For playback of Anime, I typically just use Kodi with the official Kodi Plex add-on. It works much better than the official Plex app, however the official Plex app isn't terrible. The only reason I prefer the Kodi add-on is better audio passthrough support, most of my Anime is ripped with the PCM tracks encoded as FLAC, and the official Plex app doesn't like decoding FLAC back to Multichannel PCM. For mobile playback of Anime on iOS, I use Infuse.

          • @Cronium: The android tv jellyfin app is awful too

            • @adam149: Isn't that just in beta atm or am I thinking of something else?

      • +2

Not that they don't support devices, I believe they are referring to supporting errors. I find Plex TV frustrating as it crashes every couple of weeks. The recording functionality loses audio sync regularly, especially if you set it to delete commercials etc.

Nothing too horrible, but these are all issues I've raised multiple times through their support lines and received zero response.

      • Bit disappointed that Plex that I've been running for years was no longer supported on the Mac Mini. New app is average IMO.

Lucky in the fact that most of what I like to watch is on streaming services anyway.

Like other users have said, tech support isn't really there anymore.

I jumped on a lifetime sub as soon as it came out but cant really think of any time it was worth it.

    • I have a plex pass too… I'm in two minds about it. Currently there's a really horrible bug with the new Google TV devices that cause it to constantly crash… it's been like that for months and they haven't fixed it. :(

When it actually works though, it's really good!

      • +1

What bug are you referring to? Mine works like a charm with my chromecast w/google tv.

    • +1

Never had an issue with any of my devices, using the standard Apps from Google, Roku and iOS stores. You must be unlucky.

    • +2

What do you mean by "want good support for devices"? Plex works on pretty much every device out there.

I bought the Plex pass recently because it's one of my most used programs and it gives a few nice little benefits. My library is still going through and detecting intros so i can then skip them a few weeks after starting it haha. The extra dashboard visibility and control for streaming is very nice too, as is hardware decoding.

    • +1

Very happy with mine not sure what devices your having issues with?

  • I also have the lifetime, I actually don't use it that much

  • Gee-thanks, just bought it!

  • +1

Now to wait for the "how do i watch movies with this"

    • I have flex but never realised what it can do until reading your comment and doing a YouTube search.

Probably doesn't suit my needs, but good to know.

  • Code TOUCHDOWN was also mentioned in a HotUKDeals post a couple days back.
    - 30 day trial.

    • Damn
"This promotion code is valid only for new Plex Pass subscriptions and cannot be applied to existing subscriptions or for subscription plan upgrades."

  • If I dont need to use Plex on mobile, do I still need the pass?

    • +2

Not really no. The best features of plex pass is mobile sync and hardware transcoding (If you don't transcode and only watch at home you probably don't need it). Other stuff is pretty meh, it's mainly paying to support the devs.

    • +2

You can use Plex on mobile by opening it with a web browser.

    • +1
      • Skip TV Show Intros (provides the Netflix Skip Intro's) feature
      • Hardware acceleration
      • Greater control sharing libraries
      • Life TV recording (never used it though)
      • I think you also need it for Plexamp - and to be honest, the sonic feature etc. are pretty great.
My spotify use (wife's account) would constantly be a fight between us… so just dump a LOT of music on Plex and Plexamp is a great product, IMO. I use with Android Auto, mostly.

  • Running Kodi with customized plug-ins on my Sony smart TV and Jellyfin on DS918 as server. Just perfect👌

    • Anymore more info you could share on this? Looking to setup something similar.

      • Well I'd like to but obviously it's a lot more info than something could be shared in one reply. I think you can easily find articles about how to setup DS918, how to install docker and then setup Jellyfin. The relatively challenging part is installing Kodi on your smart TV. One thing that I must mention is that if you want to use the Embuary skin (I bet you want to) then don't chase after the latest version of Kodi, as this skin only supports up to Kodi 18 ‘Leia’. You might wonder what I'm talking about - don't worry, just write it down and you'll find it useful. I learnt this the hard way, which cost me another half a day to uninstall Kodi and re-setup all the plug-ins on my TV.

  • I was waiting for a big discount to pop up for the last couple of months and it didn't happen.
I took the advice of a legend (NoGiveJustTake) on here and asked them for a big discount and they sent a discount code through the same day!
Coincidence maybe but it was very welcome.
I think I ended up paying $111.99 for a lifetime pass so was really happy with that!

  • What even is this?

    • Plex is a media server that you run on one of your computers, and it'll let you watch your content on any of your other devices. It'll even transcode content so if your Android TV won't play, say h.265, Plex can transcode it.
The other thing it'll do is let you share out your media library to people outside of your local network.
Also there's some crappy streaming channels no-one cares about.
Bear in mind that Plex has been selling lifetime passes for a while, and seem to be running out of money; so they seem to have given up on what their customers want and are trying to do media deals no-one asked for. There's no hardware encoding - so you can support more users streaming through your internet connection - and AMD hardware transcoding isn't supported on anything other than Windows.

      And this might explain more.

  • Is there even a reason to consider Plex?
I think I had a look at this platform ages ago, but just couldn't see any reason to pick it up.

NF, AP, Stan and there is more than enough. Is there anything on Plex that makes it worth looking at? (Just had a quick look on the website, not seeing much).

    • +4

Plex is great if you've got a big media library yourself, good for streaming your own music on the go from your media server too.

Certainly not everyone needs the functions you get with Plex pass though

    • Plex isn't like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Stan. They are streaming services that have their own content. Plex is a streaming service for your content.

    • plex is "self-hosted netflix". if you just want a streaming service but you don't have any media of your own, plex isn't for you

    • ah - my bad… that's right!

I do remember now looking at it when play music was dumped… Didn't spend more than about 5 mins… Just ended up going back to tidal and downloading all my music locally.

    • If you put a bit of time in and have a space computer and storage lying around, torrenting + Plex is more economical and more convenient than any selection of streaming services. You need to maintain a subscription to multiple streaming services to be able to access certain content on demand (since a single streaming service doesn't have everything). With Plex and some other apps like Sonarr and Radarr, aside from the initial hardware cost, all you need to pay for is a VPN (and that's only if you want to be completely sure your ISP can't see you torrenting) and you have your own media library with whatever content you want.

      • Used to do a lot more of that. Now, your point covers it (for me). No time, and can't be arsed anymore. :(

        • It is basically a one time setup though, then everything is automated.

          • @MrFunSocks: You still have to deal with a home server and everything that comes with that. For me thats largely reduced because I also use my home server for other purposes.

I think whats really made a Plex server hard these days is the insane amount of content coming out through Apple/Netflix/Amazon etc, you need so much hard drive space if you want to keep this stuff. I guess you don't have to keep all the content.. but I don't delete stuff for multiple reasons, particularly the long list of banned TV episodes and scenes cut because of the current pc culture.

            • +1

@samfisher5986: Yeah I've got a 40TB NAS that's rapidly filling up with all my legally acquired content haha.

  • My free month expires on 11th September. Does this stack up? Or do I just claim this after my current free month has expired?

  • Having a Plex Pass, will this solve Plex's god-awful streaming buffering when using it remotely?

    • Plex does not stream anything itself to users, unless you are talking about their Movies/TV collection?

      • Talkin' about being able to stream my movie collections remotely thru Plex when I'm out of the house and also let my family members be able to watch my collections from their homes.

Just learned the buffering issue could be my computer's fault. Doing a speedtest and found out that the dl speed is great but the ul speed is so bad. Getting.0.23mbps when I am on an ul 50mbps plan. What gives?

        • Your internet is dodgy, you should contact your provider and ask them to fix it.

          • @samfisher5986: I did. When my provider (TPG) found out that the fault could be in my end, they basically told me to piss off and can't wait to get me off the phone.

On mobile test, I get an ul of 43mbps. Go figure.

            • @pacificstorm: Maybe get a computer service person to have a look at it, could be a dodgy network port on your computer or something similar.

              • @samfisher5986: Well. Tried using VPN (Surfshark) while doing the test and to my surprise, the result was better. Ul speed of 23mbps. was the result. Now really am confused.
