  • Bought these at first choice a while ago for $5 and can say that I think they taste like sh*t

  • Is it just me (perhaps - I'm a sensitive soul)? I'm thinking that the DM offers are getting more rubbishy - particularly since the Endeavour demerger.

Dan Murphy's email targeting has always been rubbish and their databases aren't the full bottle (pardon the pun) - I've repeatedly been sent invites to tastings on the Gold Coast - despite having a Canberra (& now Melbourne) address. Emails take the shotgun approach with no apparent learning from my purchase habits.

Coles group marketing has always been more on the ball (and that isn't saying much).

I've taken to buying drinks from other 3rd party vendors who offer better quality, prices and service. DM used to have some really knowledgeable wine people in their bigger stores. I'd hate to be them right now and COVID-19 has only made it worse.

    • Pardon my stupidity but how are the other vendors better quality when it's the same product and Dan's arguable has the biggest range?

      • +1

It's not stupidity. And I substantially agree with you - most DM stores have a decent range (especially if you compare with outlets like BWS) and prices on some major brands are relatively good.

Their 'offers', however, are getting a bit stingy - and their emails don't take into account what you've shown to be your interests. There are 3rd party sellers who DO sell interesting stuff at good prices - and often that includes things that sellers like DM don't touch. If you're going to use a customer database, make sure it adds value to the business and to the individual customer. At the moment, I can't see the Endeavour are doing this. Or, at least not for DM customers. Maybe they do it more for the high profit end of their business - players of their poker machines (who probably don't have an OzBargain 'membership card').
