    Skillet seasoned with oil

    What kind of oil…

    • This can get slippery very quickly.

    • Not olive oil due to the low smoking point

        We don't smoke.

        • Can we put JV back in the penalty box?

  • Don't know if they're still available but I got one from Aldi for $15 last week

    • Exactly. Kmart have em as well. Wonder what the difference is once you season it anyway

      • I want to pass this down…

I bought the Kmart one. Found one hole underneath & one on the side. Unfortunately I didn't see those until I washed it with hot water before seasoning so couldn't return. Kmart one also has a rough surface, not as smooth as Lodge (griddle). Have an ALDI grill pan which also has a smooth surface compared to the Kmart one. I have seasoned all 3 and don't find any difference in their non stick properties. Not sure about the heat distribution though wasn't that observant. I'm waiting to buy a lodge skillet when it's cheap, think they went cheaper than this.
If anyone is planning to buy the Kmart one it's in the camping section not in the usual cooking stuff area.

        • Thanks for that, good to know re the surface. Q.. Once you wash them (as there are various cleaning methods), is it normal for the paper towel to still stain a little black? Or does that mean it needs further cleaning/seasoning?

          • @sean85: Sorry, I am not actually sure about that can't recall anything black coming on to the paper towel when I wiped dry after the first wash. I did a quick wash with hot water & soap to remove the factory coating of seasoning & immediately heated it. I checked the seasoned one now, no black stains not even on the handle.

@chamaniw: Thanks for checking! Sounds like I may have to re-season mine again. Cheers

  • What’s the difference for usage between this one and the $38 one last week?

Must wait out for this again.

I have the 10" lodge and the 12" victoria @Fergy1987 mentioned and I prefer the Victoria.
Smoother finish, easier to clean, better handle.
The silicon handle cover is great though.
