  • Is this pan good for steak cooking? I have a similar model and it triggers the fire alarm almost everytime.

    • +3

Generally, no. Non-stick is not the right choice for steak - ideally you'd use a heavy cast iron pan there :) That said, it does depend on just how you like your steak.

      • -2

Cast iron will trigger the fire alarm also though.

        • Learn to cook steak.

          • @Jessie Ryder: High heat, char it, then flip it. It's basic stuff. It's the charring that produces smoke. Unless you believe charring shouldn't produce smoke?

        • +1

you might be using an oil with too low of a smoking point?

    • The high heat you need to get a nice sear on a steak will damage the nonstick pan.

Also the smoke alarm going off sounds like your oil is smoking. Using a oil with a higher smoking point to avoid this. (Ie. not olive oil)

    • Half as good?
"Ultra-Resistant: Tefal's Titanium non-stick coating lasts up to 2 times longer compared to Tefal Titanium standard"

      • They both say the exact same "2x longer than Titanium standard"

        • +1

          IKR haha hello marketing department

          • @smileyface: yesterday I bought a Tefal "Everest" pan for $35 and today, they've renamed the exact same pan to Tefal "Healthy Chef" and are charging $99 - its a joke!

    • The base might not be as thick on it, it is hard to tell from the pics. Basically with a thicker base it will retain heat better meaning that it will cook more evenly and won't lose as much heat when you put raw food on it. I know that when I was in Big W a couple of months ago they had 2 different Tefal lines with different price points, and the more expensive ones definitely had a thicker base.
