Electricity Usage and Service Calculation - Sydney metro.

Hi Experts,

I got my electricity bill and it is up 37% since the same time last year ( from 12kWh to 16.4kWh)

I do not use electricity for cooking; have off peak hot water - only use washing machine at nights; yet my peak consumption appears to have doubled.

I know that Ausgrid attended my premises 6 months back and changed something so the 1st bill was up around 25%.

How are you all travelling - have you noticed massive hikes as well?

  • How many fridges/freezer you have?

What kind of hot water system you have? If you have a tank, that uses electricity throughout the day to keep warm.

    Heating?

    • 1 fridge, off peak hot water, no heating

Do you have access to your electricity meter reading?

What I've suggested in previous post is to take daily reading for next seven days at the same time each day. This is to confirm your bill is not an estimated read.

Until then I don't think an electricity expert will know why based on the infor you provided.

I thought from the title you were from Sydney metro needing help to pay the monthly power bill…those trains must cost a bit to run.

  • You running hydro or aircon 24/7 OP?

Ive got all the usual appliances plus 65 inch tv on 10hrs, split system on 4 hours, and 2 6ft fish tanks running 24/7 and my daily average doesn't even clock 8kw.

    • wow! No aircon

  • My bill was certainly up though I can't recall by how much but I expected to be as it was winter so heating was used as necessary and my family loves leaving doors and windows open when the AC is on (yet complain it's not getting warmer) and light switches only operate to turn lights on. Next one will be down again.

    What kind of property?

Your usage is up so you need to figure out what is using more electricity. Computer/work from home?

yet my peak consumption appears to have doubled

Could it be……… you have been working from home instead of going to work?

  • Did you get a new 'smart meter' installed?

If so it may explain it.

    also what JimmyF said.

    • not sure if it is a smart meter for me but it is for Energy Australia
