Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 $599 Upfront with Telstra $69/M 12Mo SIM Plan (Port In) @ JB Hi-Fi (In-Store)

650

Went in store yesterday and was told the offer for the Z flip 3 for $599 upfront (or $699 for the 256gb) on a 12 month $69 plan with unlimited calls / texts and 80gb data was back on until the 10th October. A deal exists for the Fold 3 also, but I'm unsure of those details.

If you missed out last time it may be worth going to your local store!

I signed up today. Ample stock available at many stores in WA.

    Thanks op.

People like me in VIC and NSW will forever miss this deal. It is unreachable to us.

    • You can get this in vic there open in country vic where I travel to I’ll look on Thursday

      • +27

While you're there, get a new keyboard with working full stops too.

    • Don't forget the ACT :P even though it's pretty easy to I spose haha.

      • Don’t forget Jervis Bay, although that’s even easier.

    • You can do it over the phone.

  • +7

should let people in lockdown sign up via telephone

    • Pretty common sense tbh

    • The only thing that stops me from signing up to a JB HIFi Telstra plans is that it does not support international calling. We can't add Telstra's international calling pack ($10) over the 69 or 99 plan either. So if whatsapp or other forms of data calling is the only form of international call you make.. this is a super deal with a new phone.

  • Can you call up telstra to get $10 off your bill every month once you've signed up to the plan?

    • +32

Yeah do it via live chat. Worked for me. If you get rejected just try again the next day and say JB told you you'll get a $10 port in credit via live chat. Try every day till they do it.

Once you get the port in credit, get on the live chat again and tell them JB told you you'll get 50,000 bonus Telstra points for signing up. They'll tell you to wait 14 days for your points, you likely won't get them, then hop on the live chat again and ask for the matter to be escalated. Someone will call you and tell you they're crediting the points.

Where were you when I signed up for the pre-order. Great info mate.

        • Haha, well I didn't know any of this until I actually got the phone. Just started blasting the live chat once I became a Telstra customer.

Got this phone about a month ago because I loved the idea of the small form factor. I really enjoy it particularly for exercising (easily fits in pouch I wear for running) and just for placing in the car. Hinge feels solid.

The camera has really exceeded my expectations and the 120hz is a nice touch. Phone is very snappy.

Battery isn't amazing but is way better than my S10+ so I'm not complaining too much. Doesn't hurt to have a powerbank handy. The Cygnett wireless charging powerbank has been handy around the house (33k Telstra points).

    • Just get garmin watch for exercising. You don't even need a phone.

      • +1

I like to have my phone on me and don't need more gadgets.

doesnt the screen on these end up going bad at the fold?

    • +1

No, you're thinking of the early versions of the Fold and Flip.

I haven't heard of any issues with the second and now, third, generation phones.

      • +1

Uh, there are plenty of reports of the screen cracking in the centre on both the Flip 3 and the Fold 3.

        • +3

I'm sure you can provide some reputable source then, outside of reddit etc.

The first gen phones were plagued with issues and it was widely accepted they were terrible for reliability and majorly flawed.

I'm talking on the same level as that, or the exploding batteries in the Notes.
I'm not talking about anecdotal reports that literally any phone gets.

        • +2

I sometimes sit on my phone when I forgot leave it on the couch, throw my phone to the bed before sleep, fall to the floor twice from the work desk. My flip3 hasn't show any crack. I also play games, even remote dekstop from it.

          • @mfu: You happy with it so far? How do you find the battery? Did you come from a previous android phone or iOS?

            • +1

@fivespice: I always had an eye for a flip phone, so I am totally happy with it. Upgraded from galaxy S9, usually I am not a fan of single brand, but this is my first phone that never broken for 3 years.
Could not comment about the battery, as I work from home all the times since the day I arrive in oz, battery is not an issue for me. The only one that bugged me is the unusual screen size. When watching videos, it will not have full screen, there will be empty border on the left and right.

              • @mfu: Is this the case just in 16:9 video? In 21:9 like in most movies there should be barely any.

I work for JB and you can sign up over the phone.
You can call the sales line or go on the website and under Services, Mobile Phone Plans and you can click request a call back.
Someone will then call you back to process the connection.

    • Last time there was a great deal, I tried calling Broadway Sydney and they said couldn't do it as need id to verify etc etc

      Has it changed now?

    • +1

I work for JB and you can sign up over the phone.

      Are you sure?
It specifically said on JB web site

Please note: Handset offers not available over the phone.

      • +1

Ah yeah sorry I forgot, the deals with handsets are an issue. My apologies!

  • Remind me again, how long do we need to port out from telstra before we can port in again?

  • +1

Could someone shed some light on what the deal on Fold 3 is, Thanks

    • +2

the one that folds vertically into a tablet.

    • +2

So I called my local store, the deal actually is $900 off when signing up to the $69 plan so this can also be applied the the Fold 3.

He also said if you sign up to the $99 plan for 24 months, you get $1500 off, which makes the Flip 3 $99 upfront and the Fold 3 $1000 up front

  • Since this is telstra. Is it possible to sign up with esim?

    • +4

JB can’t provide eSIM but once you sign up, simply head to a Telstra store and they will change it to eSIM for you.

  • +1

I'm going to absolutely FLIP if I don't get this deal

waiting on the pixel 6, still have a bad taste in my mouth with samsung after having an s8 for so long

  • Don't know why but it says excluding Belong customer. Anyone has trouble porting from Belong to Telstra?

    • that is because belong uses the telstra wholesale network

      • Uh not quite. It uses the wholesale network because Belong is owned by Telstra. It’s the Jetstar to Qantas, their affordable brand

      • I understand Boost to Telstra would have a problem as they use the same full Telstra network. But from wholesale like Belong doesn’t work too? What about others like Aldi or Woolies.

Can someone confirm how this would go down with salary packaging? Recall previously that the full price of the phone will be on the JB invoice and the $900 off is a voucher (i.e. on the payment side).

Say tax rate is 32.5% plus 2% Medicare.

Total price of phone including GST: $1,499

GST refund from salary packaging: $136.27
    Salary packaging tax saving: 34.5% x ($1,499 - $136.27) = $470.14
Total return including GST refund: $606.41

Total upfront cost of phone: $599
Actual net upfront cost of phone: -$7.41

    Not bad at all…

    • The S21 deal is even better.

Total price of phone including GST: $1,249

GST refund from salary packaging: $113.55
      Salary packaging tax saving: 34.5% x ($1,249 - $113.55) = $391.73

Total return including GST refund: $505.28

Total upfront cost of phone: $199
Actual net upfront cost of phone: -$306.28

Don't forget you can salary package the plan as well.

My local JB Hi-Fi tells me that in Melbourne, the $900 off the Samsungs deal won't be available until stores re-open. You can access the $400 gift card deal though Did confirm a couple of things though:
    - $69 over 12 months gets a $900 gift card which you can use on the phone
    - $99 over 24 months gets a $1200 which you can use on the phone
    - will need to port in and out over 30 days to be eligible
    - the invoice will display full price of phone and will likely be blank so you can use it for tax purposes. My experience in the past is they ask you what to put on the receipt in case its going under a company name or something

Nominally, apparently the deals are ending Sunday but very likely to be extended given how they have been going in other states.

So best option is for Melburnians to hang tight until we can go in-store.

    • The $900 off can only be used on the Z Flip 3, not any other phone, right?

      • Didn't really confirm that. The way he was talking was that it applied across the board but then he did some further digging and found out that until stores open, its only a $400 voucher available. I'm guessing you can do the regular deal via the website/email but the $900 deal requires in-store finessing.

  • I love my flip3 so far no problem at all :)
