+6 votesJust to clarify the above:
-> Both options get you the same phone (htc explorer)
meaning it comes down to this:
365 days of service with 5gb each month @ $366 —> Cost per day = $1.00
180 days of service with 4.5gb ea month @ $248 —> Cost per day = @1.38Difference in initial investment is 366-248 = $118, but for that you get 6 months more service and 500 mb extra every month.
Clear now :)
+1 votedavedrastic on 16/03/2012 - 10:50 ¶So that I understand your comments, the 365 deal is not a part of the groupon offer, yeah? So if we prefer the 365 deal we can happily ignore groupons time pressured honeytrap?
I'm considering the 365 deal but I'm not in a mega rush.
-1 voteThough I cannot see it being possible to port services "online". blergh…
Data value essentially the same compared to woolworths mobile:
133MB/day, 111MB/day much the same; optus was first to do 5gb.And once redeemed, date to activated by? - can't find that detail.
+Everyone's aware of the third rate coverage n/w.. back of Optus, Tlestr
+3 votesgreenpossum on 16/03/2012 - 09:04 ¶Looks like some people didn't look hard enough, porting a number is there on the activation page:
https://securea.redbullmobile.com.au/ActiveRBM/activateprepa...
Do you wish to transfer an existing Australian mobile number to use with this service? Yes No
+1 votezigpy_siva on 16/03/2012 - 09:04 ¶you can port your number, i did it 3 days back from Optus to RedBull Mobile.
wickedwill on 16/03/2012 - 00:01 ¶Is there a option for coninuance of plan after 60day for 10 buck plan?

greenpossum on 16/03/2012 - 01:30 ¶To be honest, to use up 8GB data in 60 days you would have to run a download every night or something like that.
zigpy_siva on 16/03/2012 - 01:44 ¶1 hr of internet radio is ~ 10 MB, 10 hrs a day is ~6GB for 60 days, apart from that there is browsing and checking eMails
i was using optus $3(and $2) plan for a year(total more than $600), just switched to RedBull 2 days back to check the signal in my area…
brucefromaustralia on 16/03/2012 - 07:32 ¶Usage depends what you are using the SIM in. In a 3G tablet, I easily go though 5G/45 days on Woolies Mobile. Tethering your phone can go through plenty.
+1 votezigpy_siva on 16/03/2012 - 01:26 ¶the plan is $75 for 60 days, now we are getting the 60 days voucher/sim for $10.
at the same time if you would like to continue, you can chouse any of the access recharge vouchers.
best option i can see,
get a $10 sim pack now(60 days), and buy a 365 recharge voucher(which should be valid form more than 3 months) with HTC explorer(offer till april or stock ). once the 60 days is over recharge with the 365425 days + HTC explorer = 375.
other vouchers for Redbull are as below.
$10 = 7 days
$20 = 15 days
$39 = 30 days
$75 = 60 days
$199 = 180 days
$365 = 365 days

If I understand your statement correctly, you are saying there's no point in purchasing the offer as it will be invalid if it arrives after 29th March (i.e. 3 weeks from today = 6th April)? If so, I think you may have misunderstood (or I have)? The sim card will be valid once it is activated… that could be today, next week, next year… please correct me if I am wrong?
Oh… just saw comment above… sim has to be activated before 29th March - ok?
brucefromaustralia on 16/03/2012 - 07:43 ¶LOL Current automated email response says will take 3 days to respond. Groupon did not reply to numerous emails from me after 2 weeks. Had to ring & was on hold on call to Sydney for 15 min. No freecall number. That was 2 weeks ago.

if anyone calls or knows for certain when we have to activate this sim card by please do lets us know? not like the last amaysim lifehacker deal they already came activated once you purchased the sim. since i still got data on amaysim and delivery can be up to 3 weeks ill most likely redeem it on 29 march. i think its via the vodaphone network which is poor where i live. its good value for money so i might give it try.

Vodafone (:
Get it right steptoe and son (:

greenpossum on 16/03/2012 - 01:09 ¶It depends a lot on where you will use it. You may only frequent areas where the service is good and never encounter problems. On the other hand…
+1 voteOf course you should look for yourself as I'm not looking at the sites as I type this (ie. it's from memory but you can go look you know) but IMO Amaysim is far better value except in very specific circumstances:
Woolies: $29.99 = $250 to any Optus + $250 to any other network (except Pivotel).
Calls have a massive flagfall (0.89c ?) and are charged at a very high rate. I worked out I'd be lucky to get 4 hours talk time a month if I didn't use SMS. 1300/1800 numbers cost extra.
SMS are 0.30c each.
5GB data = importantly data is measured in 10MB chunks which makes this a lot less attractive than it may seem. You can sync your gmail and use 10MB.
Lasts 45 days.
Amaysim: $39.99 = unlimited calls to any network and includes 1300/1800 numbers.
unlimited SMS
4GB data = can't remember what chunks are measured in but it was "reasonable" as opposed to Woolies.
Lasts 30 days.
Both providers use Optus backhaul - network is occasionally very fast but mostly quite slow with regular dropouts. This will depend on your area of course but even in town (Adelaide) this is the case for me with the burbs being worse. Neither provide data services outside AU if you travel.
If customer service is important to you - and this means wasting hours of your life in some circumstances waiting for seemingly routine and simple things to be done - the Amaysim is a nobrainer, they have an AU call centre as I understand.
Woolworths call centre is so bad you'd probably think I was exaggerating but think having to constantly ask support to repeat things due to thick accents, being lied to about what has previously occurred with other support staff doing simple things like activating SIMs so they dont look bad, not giving you reference numbers to show that verbal contracts have occurred (which take 30 minutes to complete thanks to asking to them to repeat everything etc) so you have to do the whole thing again (that was a good day that one) … I could go on haha but I hope you get the picture.
shinichiduy on 16/03/2012 - 01:16 ¶They seem to have problem with iPhone. Have to fix it by installing profile but then, MMS still does not work.

They buy bandwidth from say Optus or Vodafone (I believe there are a couple using Telstra, too lazy to search) and run their own number management, accounts and billing. As opposed to a thin branding like Wooliesmobile where you go on the Optus site to manage your account.
There's nothing wrong with being a MVNO. In fact only a few of the network providers run their own infrastructure; it's expensive.
+5 votesgreenpossum on 16/03/2012 - 08:28 ¶BTW why did someone neg Turd? He asked a reasonable question and the answer could be useful to others.
+1 voteyou can get them unlocked free if you are on a plan not matter what they tell you. i am on the $5 telechoice deal and got most of mine unlocked with some difficulty and arguing on the phone. you need speak to someone who is aware of the deal. tell them it was a special promo deal and that you got the prepaid phone at the time of signing the contract thus they need to unlock it for free not $80. otherwise just activate the prepaid sim that came with it and wait 6 months to unlock free. make sure you get their name incase they do go back on their word and charge you $80 like they did to me. but i got it refunded yesterday as i kept notes.

Any one know if the htc come locked or unlocked?????
Thinking of replacing my nephew's htc t8285 with this one but want him to use Optus/Telstra network as his area has poor coverage with vodafone. The sim can go to dad as he made heaps of calls and he is on justmobile sim any way which is also voda so it should be ok
drillvoice on 16/03/2012 - 06:55 ¶I got the 365 deal and it came locked but I unlocked it for $0 at vodafone.com.au/unlock
+2 votesJust for reference, I got RBM for my missus but after about 2 weeks we ported out to Telstra.
Service was fine on the 850mhz towers with far better reception than Optus around Parramatta however data speeds were reminiscent of 28.8k dialup days, absolutely terrible
+3 voteshave no prob redeeming 2 vouchers using the same contact details.
According to redbull mobile TOC, recharge voucher will expire 6 months after the date of purchase.
"The SIM Starter Pack and recharge voucher you are purchasing must be activated within six months of the date on the proof of purchase for the SIM Starter Pack and recharge voucher. If the SIM Starter Pack and recharge voucher is not activated in this time, the recharge voucher will expire and you will forfeit the value of the recharge voucher."
Cheers!

Just a note that it would probably be better to buy the 365 day one rather than the 180 day one.
365 day is 365$ + $1 for the HTC explorer + 5GB data per month.
180 day is $248 + 4.5GB data per month (HTC explorer included).
