On a scale of 1 to you how clever do you think you are?

        • +1

yes because people were scalping them for $1000 on ebay

          get (profanity) bargain gatekeeper

To the OP, before somebody deletes this deal or updates it:

    Wut?

  • +5

Somebody posted this on twitter last night and I assume they would all be claimed by now.

  • +7

Good luck trying to get one now.

Ebay and marketplace will have a lot of listings in the next couple of hours.

    • Yep, starting at $1100+ guaranteed.

  • Already ozbargain'd at Alexandria

    • +3

Sorry, I took one :( To be fair, I only arrived 20mins after store opening. Anyone who was committed should have been there 9am on the dot!

      • +2

        Was there at 8am bro

        • +3

          Username checks out.

  • +4

Called a few stores this morning at 9am and they said the post was fake. So take it with a grain of salt. Plus, most of these stores already have extensive waiting lists so its wasted effort either way.

    • +4

Can confirm VIC all gone already in this morning.

    • +7

Wasn't a fake post, I got one at Alexandria this morning at 9:20am. Guy at the counter said he was prioritising walk-in's over phone calls, and was straight up ignoring any calls / emails that are coming in. I was customer 11 out of 34 they had in stock.

      • +4

Yeah you’re right. Just called GG Cranbourne and they confirmed it was real, and some of the other stores were announcing it was fake to get people to stop calling (including me at 9am). Good luck everyone.

        • +2

I wouldn't be surprised if the staff legitimately thought it was fake. What they're told at store level vs reality is often a bit hit and miss

  • Gone at Auburn

  • +9

This Post is real, bought myself one from GoodGuys Narrewarren. They initially said this is fake and do not accept Preorders, called them back after an hour and they appologized saying that email from management was late and they have 30 odd disc consoles when I bought. They sent an SMS link and I paid in full.

  • +2

All Sydney was gone within 30min.

Phone line was dead for majority of stores and I think they only entertained walk in customers.

This was posted on Twitter last night so unlikely to have any stock in any store now.

  • +2

I bought one today at 12:30 from North Lakes Good guy in Qld
So try your luck i don't work for Sony or GG So cant promise

    Thanks

    • +1

as in you placed a deposit on one…?

  • +2

Good luck with good guys lol. Always selling stuff they don't have and months to wait.

  • Found it.

  • +5

By the time PS5's are readily available instore without worries, PS5 slim is already out

    • +1

The PS6 will be out by the time you can get a PS5.

  • Any WA store has it?

    • +2

Nah McGowan won't let them in ;)

  • +1

ACT all sold out by 9:30 this morning.

    • Gumtree will be popping off soon!

  • +5

You guys are so lucky, you get to play all these games trying to get the thing in the first place before you even own the console. That's value.

  • -2

if you are on Ozbargain waiting for a PS5 it will never happen. You've gotta be on Twitter following the stock notifications page.

  • I have asked all my mates to get them.

  • +1

Why should I get this over an Xbox?

    • +1

Follow the games, not the plastic box. Which exclusive games do you want to play more? Pick that one.

      • -2

What exclusives does the PS5 have that warrant sacrificing performance for? Besides the in-house games it seems like exclusives are becoming less common, and many that are end up only being exclusive for a set time period.

        • +2

It’s pretty much the 1st party lineup you should care about I’d say. So GoW, anything by Naughty Dog, and the like.

At this point in the lifecycle it also seems that PS5 is holding its own against the Xbox and often wins out. I’m sure the Xbox will pull ahead in the future as devs begin to more heavily optimise titles, but for now analysis from the likes of Digital Foundry are often in favour of the PS5. Not always but it’s not a consistent narrative that Xbox versions of games are better yet. Saying that as someone that owns a Series X and not a PS5 (, although I’d like to also get a PS5 later for some of the exclusives).

An X factor that MS has is Game Pass is a very robust offering for the money and GamePass Ultimate also opens up cloud streaming for your other devices which is a nice bonus.

          • @Smigit: Hmm, I guess it depends. A bunch of the cross-platform games I've recently been playing (I have a PS5 btw - opposite of you) seem to get better frame rates on the One X or better resolution at the same frame rate.

It would be nice if Sony eventually offered something similar to Game Pass, would be excellent.

I guess we'll have to wait and see as it's probably unlikely anything radical happens until there's a lot more consoles out there in houses.

As above, the "performance" argument has shown to be a non-differentiator with games being optimised for either console being far more important than raw power or SSD speed etc.

The other consideration is the DualSense which is a significant upgrade from previous generations too.

If none of that interests you then certainly not the console for you and worth looking elsewhere.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if It'll be this time next year before we actually see stock on the shelves…

  • Please realise that some of these would already have been pre sold to other customers, so don't get your hopes up.

  • +1

FRANKLY SPEAKING… NAME ME MORE THEN 5 TITLES … that you'd die for to play on ps5 / ps5 exclusives right now…

I've got one since day 1 and it feels nice to have but generally meh yeah OK… an Insta status symbol and a few 4k games

    • +1

The new Spider-Man should be pretty good, what do you think will come first, It's release in 2023, or PS5 stock availability?

      • Or Gran Turismo 7 lol… ps5 stock issues aren't just a supply/shipment thing coz "covid". That too but it's a perfect storm of shortage of semi conductors, silicon and microchips which I think was also impacted by some policies with US/CHINA manufacturing and some hoarding by various groups and industries like the automotive one probably are vying more hard to get a $17500 car out the door then a $750 ps5/ xbox.

I could be wrong about the whole thing and they'll magically go through African dump sites and find all the resources to supply possibly closer to 20 million units next year compared to 10 million odd this year… in any case I think sony would put Australia closer to the bottom end of number of units supplied.

An interesting conversation to have would be how many people "desperate for a unit" have got one vs the "want/nice to have". I think one thing that's pushed up the demand is also people's reptilian brain kicking in during covid "need more sh*t then i need" gotta have more/show off… status symbol of ps5…. go back to ps4 launch… ps3 especially… people were keen but not so keen on a $800-$1000 console for little Jimmy and Jenny… these days it's like the family fridge so it wouldn't surprise me if we overall needed 2 million units in Australia to satisfy overall demand and maybe 1 million of xbox units

  • I called my local Good Guys (They're an hour away) and ended up getting a mate locally to go around since they won't do this over the phone..

They told me that they had "a few" left in relation to disc versions, but then was told it was digital only.

So annoyed, I've pre ordered GT7 Limited Edition and I'm yet to play GT Sport. Tempted to just go with a PS4 Pro to be honest.

    • +2

I wouldn’t do that, digital edition PS5 would still be infinitely better than a PS4 Pro. Just make your account US based and your games will be quite reasonably priced especially with sales.

      • I would, but i also want it for a Blu Ray player. I only want to play GT7 and Sport, I will not get a digital only console it's not viable in Australia.

  • -2

can someone explain the value of the disc version only being $150 less considering the additional savings in buying pre-owned/secondhand games and re-selling them?

    • Do your own maths

    • +2
      • If you're in a spot like me, where your missus has a PS5 with a disc and you game 99% on Xbox, it's 150 less I have to spend to jump into all the digital games we have on PS4 and PS5

      • If you're an all digital gamer, also like I am 99% of the time (I am legitimately still yet to put a disc into my launch Series X), then what's the point of the disc drive?

      • Value wise as you ask, you get more than one copy if you go digital, so you can share either between me and the missus there, or if I played on PS5 I'd share accounts with a mate, and that way any purchases we both want we can split down the middle cost wise.

      • There's plenty of people who only buy FIFA and COD and whatnot every year and considering their trade values go down the toilet pretty quick they can just as easily go buy it digital, play with their friends, delete it, and buy the next year's, basically "saving" themselves the cost of one of those games with the 150

      • Seems to be less in demand, ie, may be easier to get

      • Good for kids who don't get a million games but mostly play the PS+ games and Fortnite and whatnot

      • Profit?

      • Thanks for the detailed explanation, that all makes sense (especially people buying it just for 1-2 games per year)

  • no stock anywhere - should be marked as expired or insufficient qty ……….

  • Anyone wanna come play my PS5? $25 per 2 hours good value

  • According to The Good Guys store allocation link, my local store is getting 32 consoles over 7 weeks.

That's an average of about 4.5 consoles per week.

    Is that right?

Or is it 32 consoles EVERY week, for seven weeks?

The Good Guys didn't make it clear

It clearly says that many consoles over a 7 week period.
