NBA League Pass Premium: Brazilian Real R$420 (~A$103) - VPN Required @ NBA.com

90

Hi all,

Thought this deserved a separate post.

League Pass Premium is only available in certain countries (not Argentina and South Africa which have been previously cheapest).
However, it is available in Brazil for R420 (yewww) Brazil Real, which converts to ~$103AUD.

Additional features:

  • 2 devices at one time (means you can split with a friend)
  • All possession recaps (watch a condensed game with every possession cut down to ~35mins. This feature an absolute game changer)
  • Additional classic games can be accessed

I used the UrbanVPN chrome extension, which is free and has a massive range of countries.
Open an incognito tab if you have issues with the alternate location not kicking in.

For what it's worth - this weekend I asked for my standard league pass via Argentina to be cancelled and refunded, which was done no questions asked, if you did want to upgrade.

All the best!

  • Have these guys fixed their horrible UI yet? I don't care what price it is unless that is fixed.

    • What device do you use league pass on, and what specifically don't you like?

      • -2

PC mostly. Skip buttons were bad. They need to change the intervals. They also made it hard to set it up to watch multiple teams. I just found for a premium price it was underwhelming. This was 7 years ago so I don't know if it is better now.

If you last used it 7 years ago I would hope it's improved.

@Kozhutki: That is the thing. I've heard it has barely changed feature wise.

            • @serpserpserp: It's definitely not the best streaminf service feature-wise. You can't watch from the start while the game is still ongoing (something you can do with Kayo). You can only rewind/pause for 2 minutes meaning if you paused for 5minutes, you would have missed 3minutes of gameplay. Playing in google tv, you can only rewind and forward by 30seconds (10 or 15seconds would be better). It's a bit fiddly to switch between games too. But having paid $58 for it (via SA), I am happy with it and I watch almost daily.

              • @sigplay:

You can't watch from the start while the game is still ongoing

I can no problems, also $58 via SA. When you click Watch you need to close that box, and then click Watch from Beginning ;)
Kodi app can also play from beginning.

              • @sigplay: You can watch from the beginning (even whilst game is still going) on PC. Is frustrating that feature isn't available on other devices, but not too hard to get in on TV.

              • @sigplay: You can watch from the start when a game is going on google tv. You keep your eyes off the score and then hit the restart and it will take you to the start of the stream.

Same UI as last year.. Its ok if you full screen.. but shocking to multi-task during the day.. Also annoyingly they dont have a Samsung TV app like all the other major sports

      • I assuming if no samsung than there would def be no LG app then.

I've been meaning to give League Pass a go for a long time. Finally pulled the trigger on it.

    The way I did it:

    NordVPN Brazil
    Google Chrome Incognito
    navigate direct to "watch.nba.com"
Selected "Premium Trial" far left option
Entered all payment details selecting "Brazil" at both instances it asked for a region

Seemed to go through OK, my ANZ credit card has a $1.52AU pre-authorisation amount on it. Apparently NBA charge full amount after 7 days.
    Hopefully bank doesn't reject it!

  • Works great on Kodi.

    • Looks like the kodi add-on has been deleted? :/

      • +2

I use NBA International add-on by chamchenko.

        • Legend, thankyou!

        • Any advantages of using this over the native app on Chromecast with Google TV?

I haven't been happy with the app this year, it take an AGE for the condensed/recaps to be available for some reason (even though they are on the NBA app on Android).

          • @oxblood8: No idea sorry. This is my only option TV wise (with what I have / LG TV with Minix Neo U9-H running CoreELEC).

Live games load up well with this add-on. Quality is great & I like the fact that I can choose whether to start from the beginning of the game or go live. Unsure about replays but I'm happy to test it out if you want. I only have access to Warriors content.

  • Oh damn, I just signed up for South Africa/Argentina 2 weeks ago. Would love that cut down version feature

    • Definitely worth it!

      • The site for sign up just mentions 10min condensed..?

      • Can you elobrate a bit on this feature please? I know condensed you just see every made bucket. This I assume you see every play? Thanks.

        • that's what it sounds like, but it doesn't say anything about it on the signup page so I wouldn't mind knowing more too

          • @bohn: Not enough for me to change. Will look at it next season. I got the recurring discount and 10% they owed me from another year so to cancel won't be worth it. Two devices is very tempting to set up another screen. I think you can sort two streams off the one login with a bit of casting here and loading there.

        • There's highlights which is 10min…. but there's also a condensed game feature which is great. It shows every shot scored and any major plays…. but when the ball is in-bounded or is being brought up the court as the start of offence it skips.
Chops down a whole game to about 35-40min. No ads, no timeouts…. love it!

          • @UFO: Thanks for the answer. Roughly how long after the game finishes are they available for viewing?

            • @Pootie Tang: I only just subscribed myself, so I don't have an exact answer… but all the days games are available on the same day as far as I can tell.
I haven't had it long enough to need to watch a game so soon I was pushing for it to be available in the condensed format straight away.

Edited: just logged on now. Wiz/Cle played today and it's already available condensed.

Miami/Lakers in 4th right now, so will try to see how long that takes to go condensed.

              • @UFO: Thanks. The games are available immediately but I've never really figured out how long it takes them to remove all the dead footage. It's never consistent

                • @Pootie Tang: They went into OT, but now that's finished I can see there's a full replay but no recaps or condensed versions just yet.

                  • @UFO: Let us know when it's there :)

  • Is VPN only required for sign-up?

    • Yep just for signup

  • If you have an VPN subscription and is OK to connect to VPN while watching, then India NBA League Pass is the way to go. For the past 2 seasons I've been paying 999 INR (which is about A$19) for the whole season. The saving here is enough to subsidize the VPN subscription.

    • Is it not possible to just use the VPN when signing up, then watch without VPN?

      • Not when using India

      • Correct, India's arrangement is different where you need to be connected to VPN while watching.

However, if you compare the saving, $19 vs 103, this saving itself would probably pay for the VPN itself.

Since I would also use the VPN for other purposes, this is a no brainer for me.

        • 19 for league pass
          103 for league pass premium?

          • @bohn: No, $19 is League pass for India (requires VPN while watching), $103 is League pass for Brazil (only needs VPN during sign-up).

So for some people who doesn't wish to sign up VPN permanently, they can do a "trial" and sign up with Brazil and still be OK. But for someone like me who needs VPN beyond the League Pass, it makes more sense for me to sign up via India as I'm OK with connecting to VPN while watching (and I experience no lag/slowness).

I'm not sure the diff between Pass and Premium but I get to watch every game (live and play back) for whole season and playoffs.

            • @muddrex: I was pointing out that 103 is for Premium
              not the same thing
The cheapest non-VPN (whilst watching games) league pass equiv to yours is from South Africa and it's about AUD 58.
Having an Indian VPN on all the time is annoying and not worth it IMO.
Your post really belongs in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/657807 as the OP specifically pointed out, this thread is about League Pass PREMIUM. Coming in and saying

However, if you compare the saving, $19 vs 103, this saving itself would probably pay for the VPN itself.

is missing the point that you are comparing two different products.

  • Thanks for sharing. Never knew about the all possessions recap. That's one thing I didn't like with regular league pass - you either had to watch the full replay or a 10 minute condensed version which is way too short. 30mins is perfect similar to the espn mini's!
