  • Free with Prime???

    • Haha oops! Took me a minute to realise my mistake. Fixed!

  • Extremely tempted.
Does this mean it has a fresh new battery?

And it would be nice to hear some users feedback for windy Perth (I live in Freo)

Same here !!! Very much tempted …but I have trust issues with Kogan.com

It doesn't like wind. Mini 2 apparently handles it better. The app though is good at reporting the gusty conditions and the drone will fight to get home. Just be prepared for some days where it is a no go.

$300 through flea bay back in March for 500 units.

Good price though. Great entry drone if you are new. Camera compared to mini 2 is a let down.

Litchi apparently enables a follow me type feature but paid for app.

Having owned the mini since March I really wish I stumped up for the mini 2. Also for those getting this get a second battery.. Nearly essential.

Would love someone's view as to whether Litchi is worth the $$ over the default app for the mini.

I opted for the 2, the feature are worth double the price.

I got that deal. People I've showed footage to have been pretty impressed, as was I. At $300 I wasn't expecting much.

Drowned mine in a river. Recovered it and sent it back to DJI, and they sent me a replacement. Can't complain.

Got the footage from it. 30 sec or so of water and rocks on the bottom of the river.

      • Recovered it and sent it back to DJI, and they sent me a replacement

Did you have the DJI warranty for that?

        • +2

I did actually take “Care Refresh” on it, but they determined that the drone was at fault, so it was replaced under the general warranty.

Waiting for a deal on Mini 2

    • me too.

Good deal on a great drone if you are into photography , just be aware that it may not be legal. Weird thing is some time back I said the same thing on this very forum and I got reported when flying FPV with no one around or at least I thought no one was around. Now I have to prove the laws were met or pay a fine. I will not stop flying because it is a hobby but before someone with no idea buys one of these just be aware of the rules. I used to have a Mavic pro so I know these are pretty well engineered and obviously this is a great deal but the sub 250 gram rule is US oriented so this product is US oriented ..out here you are better off buying a bigger drone with a better camera . If you are taking the risk, why limit yourself ?

    • FPV is another matter entirely. They don’t make it easy to do that. Effectively must have a spotter able to take control of the drone if required. I’ve seen some flying locally at one of the reserves, and no way were the pilots keeping them in line of sight. Doubt they had spotters, and the drones were above us at times, so if somebody had chosen to report them I guess they would be pinged. AFAIK it’s fine to fly in the nature reserve where these pilots were flying, but I think the chance of upsetting somebody would be higher there (lots of nature lovers out and about, and they’re likely to take offence at noisy drones).

250g does come into the regs, but really it just means you don’t have to worry so much about the airport buffer rules (though still have to put it down if an aircraft comes nearby). Where I live, the airport buffers cover a lot of the suburbs, and I am not allowed to fly a larger drone only a short distance from my home, where there is an area under the flight path. The airport zone covers a huge swathe of the suburbs, so it seems a little unfair. The nagware on the Mini will still complain, despite it being sub 250g.

I get what you’re saying though….250g does not give you free reign to fly where you please. It’s a bit crazy that a kid can be given a ‘toy’ drone for Christmas, fly it around the front yard, and then possibly have CASA knock on the door because it was within 30m of the neighbours. I would hope that wouldn’t be likely to happen, but the regs make it possible.

      • Someone told me the dji software still stops the 249gm drones flying near airports, the same as the larger ones, so you can't actually take advantage of the difference in rules. I have not confirmed this myself.

        • You're probably correct. The nearby restricted zones for me are flight paths, and thus an 'altitude zone' according to DJI. I have had warnings in the software, but I'm also nearby a hospital with a helipad. I am able to fly though, as I expect would be a pilot with a larger drone.

I need to try a little closer to the airport and see what happens. I expect it will enforce no-fly, as you've heard.

Not really quite consistent with Australian regulations, but I guess it can help keep us out of trouble.

@Banj0: I found with Mavic Pro it will refuse to fly within a certain radius of disused mining airstrips that are still registered. Again not quite lined up with regs, as it should be the approach paths not a radius. I thought the 249gm might be a good option to legally be able to map in these areas, but doesn't look like a good risk. Not to mention the issues with getting flight planning/automation software that works with the air.
