  • wow.. how can you manage this one under $500 .. this is insane :)

    • Thats what I like to see CrAzyYY haha :)

      • can't resist.. so bought one .. damn

        • elcheapo, can u pls tell me if u managed to get it with free delivery via paypal?

          • @dansor: yup.. free shipping:

            Sub-Total: $498.00
New South Wales Shipping (): $0.00
            Total (inc GST): $498.00

  • I'm happy with the two earlier eeePC 4Gs that I got from COTD (1x Linux; 1x XPH) - especially now that I've got wireless sorted on the Linux version (it didn't seem to like having to deal with WPA2-PSK security on my home access point).

Having said that, THIS is a ridiculous deal! Not sure about moving to a HDD with moving bits, but, otherwise, this is very cheap.

Saw the 900 model at HN for the same price this week (sitting next to the 4G at $699 - go figure!).

    It'll go fast!

  • 1000H with spinning hard disk is actually faster at many IO related tasks than 1000 with SSD (linky). Altough I think some people would prefer the slower SSD version because of battery drain + much more shock resisting.

    Well done to CotD!

    • Good point. The ability of the 4G to cope with 'incidents' was attractive to me. SSD, sub-kilo weight (think momentum folks) and a sensible neoprene satchel all help.

  • I'd rather Wind or the new Dell netbook

  • "Your order has been successfully processed! Your products will arrive at their destination within 7 to 10 working days."

My son has been chasing one of these, he was impressed with the price.

    • did you end up paying for shipping, SteveM?

      • Didn't realise they had a paypal deal going, so I ended up paying more than needed :(
        Still a good price though

  • The spec is Intel Dothan, is this the same thing with Intel Atom processors?

  • WARNING. Dothan ( actually a celeron 900! ) - Not as good as an ATOM (1.6GHz) you also get less hours and also you get wireless G rather than N

    • Seems an unusual use of a negative? I didn't see anything misleading about the specifications. Get out of bed the wrong side?

    • Yeohkt: Four votes and all negative…..Mmmmm…
Agree with lostincanberra - you're a bit tough.

    • Yes, but they priced it accordingly. Currently $650 for the 1000h is average so 150 savings is a good deal actually. Everything is the same except slightly less battery life and draft N wifi. Heck, pccasegear still has this for $670.

  • Yeah, this is Dothan one. It could run a little faster than the Atom but less battery life… I think Asus is trying to sell out the Dothan processors.

  • Atom 1.6Ghz performed no better than Dothan 'Celeron' 900mhz - however, you get reduced battery performance.

For me, this is not an issue :)

  • 900mhz.. damn so tempting @ that price. it's a steal (considering a licence of XP is like, well i dunno, $100?)

  • I don't think its that much of a steal really. Its a good price though. If you pay extra 150 dollars you can get better ram, better wifi, better warranty. If you're thinking of purchasing this and upgrade I think it's better just to get the already upgraded ones..

    • Nah you get the same DDR400 so RAM upgrade is (almost) compulsory for both. Wifi upgrade is $50 (easy swap) CPU however, is impossible to upgrade. The biggest difference IMHO is just the battery life.

  • YES, don't be confused with 1000H and 1000HD, HD is not "High Definition"…It's using celeron due to the lack of supplying of Atom. So I am not going to buy this.

  • anybody bought this and got free shipping with paypal? after i went to checkout using paypal, it still asks me for $517.95, not $498. help very much appreciated….

    • just bought this to upgrade from my 701.. screen was too small for me liking.. you need to select "checkout with paypal" button instead of clicking next

      • ok, thanks. i did that and it worked.

  • may be a nice price, but i still have to say, i'm not convinced by the netbook craze… when you can buy a new full size properly featured laptop for 499.

You're not alone. AMD 'advanced' marketing exec wasn't convinced either.

      • AMD VP says netbooks only good "around the house"

        Translate:

AMD VP cries "no netbook vendors want to use Turion. It's not fair!!!"

    • From where?

      • It's a special deal from Catch of the Day a few days ago that has already expired. Good luck next time! :)

        • I think wisamrulez was questioning "you can buy a new full size properly featured laptop for 499". :P

  • Anyone still fooling themselves that the 900 celeron is better than the atom? The battery life on these things are just so much better, just under 6 hours avg but with wifi off and a dim screen even longer.

I have a 901 xp and with a 2gb upgrade its perfect. They are great to use anywhere. For storage I use a 400gb 2.5in external or keyring flash. 3g wuld have been good in-built, but with n wireless it certainly is a step forward in future proofing itself.

  • This is back again in today's catchathon! Free shipping only until 5 p.m. AEST though.
