On sale is the new version of the popular Aqara Window Door sensors. This new version utilises Zigbee 3.0 which offers better security, better stability, better compatibility, lower power consumption (up to 2 years battery life) and allows you to have more sensors on the same network.

Like the predecessor it's designed to detect when a door or window has been opened/closed and can trigger an alarm or notification to a Zigbee hub or your phone. It can be setup to interact with other sensors, like turning on your smart lights when a door has been opened.

his sensor requires the use of a Zigbee hub to work and is compatible with many brands including Aqara, Xiaomi, Conbee, SmartThings and more. It also supports Apple HomeKit and Amazon Alexa.

  • Anyone used these with HA ?

    • I use it with xiaomi gateway, integrated with HA

    • +2

With a conbee stick, yes, works perfectly.

      • Via DeConz or ZHA? I just tried to migrate from DeConz to ZHA but had a bad experience and had to restore HA from backup.

        • I have the same setup and couldn't get it working through deconz, ended up using ZHA and all working perfectly

    • +1

Used for years. Currently running via a Conbee II. Perfect.

    • Not compatible with HA yet, but the community is working on it.
Progress can be seen here: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/1088

    • It looks like support for these though zigbee2mqtt is fairly new. (i.e. only on the dev branch for now, but working)

      • Just posting my experience of these sensors. FYI, I orderd 6 Aqara door and window sensors.

        When I received the Aqara sensors, I tried to adopt one in HA. It didn't work, as these were not supported. The error being thrown was;

Device Zigbee model 'lumi.magnet.acn001' and manufacturer name 'LUMI' is NOT supported.

So these door sensors had been sitting on my desk for a few weeks. I finally got a chance to adopt them again yesterday, as Zigbee2MQTT added support for these in recent update. Turns out I can only get 4 out 6 (66.67% success) working correctly. There is a bit of information on GitHub and a hack as well.

I am currently wondering whether I should RMA the 2 sensors or go for the hack to try my luck.

Open/close windows and doors from phone?

    • No it's a motion sensor for doors and windows. So when a door or window is opened it triggers the sensor.

  • Just note from previous thread that unless you have a new aqara hub these no longer work with Alexa routines (I’m using the older xiaomi hub). Very annoying

Doesn't Alexa new generation dots have a built in ZigBee hub? So that doesn't work?

      • I haven't been able to get any of my older generation xiami/aquara items (door sensors, movement sensors, bluetooth temp sensors) to pair with an amazon echo plus (which has bluetooth and zigbee hub built in).

I did pair the sensors to the xiaomi hub and then use the mi home skill in Alexa to trigger Alexa routines off the xiaomi sensors.

My old door sensors did stop working for a while in Alexa (send one event then stop sending events), and the motion sensors could send a 'something moved' signal, but not a 'somthing hasn't moved for X minutes' signal, making things like turning on lights while someone is in a room, and off again after they leave, not work for the left the room part.

however in the last week or so all that has seemed to fix itself and they're all passing through properly to Alexa now.

Mi Home is set to China server, and Alexa is set to US account.

        • and now they're back to only one of the three movement sensors working at all with Alexa, but at least it's still doing move and no movement correctly. One half of my door sensor fell off the double sided tape and I've lost it though :(

  • Does this work with Philips Hue hub or Google assistant?

    • +1

Philips Hue won't work with other Zigbee sensors. You'd need a Zigbee Hub that supports Google Assistant.

  • What's a good supported hub to use for the older version of these? I have 40 connected to a hubitat, and they slowly stop communicating and need to be reconnected (known bug) about one per week.

    • I've heard of similar problems with Smart things hubs. Samsung and co need to make a decent cheap sensor - the genuine ones are nice but they have too many features and are way too expensive.

    • +1

I still use the old xiaomi gateway with no issues

  • How do I hook these up to HomeKit? Bought some from the last deal thinking Works with HomeKit meant I could connect to them directly from my Apple devices, but turned out not to be the case.

    • You need the aqara hub

      • Thanks!

I have a ESP32 with WiFi/Bluetooth. Can it be configured to work with Zigbee 3.0 and then integrated to HomeAssistant. Am new to mucking about with HASS!

    • +1

      Nope, look into conbee

      • Thanks. Will dig deeper and look into Conbee and what it offers.

  • Anyone know anywhere to buy replacement tape for them?

  • Any deal for body sensor for conbee2?

  • Do these not work with the old xiaomi hub? Unable to connect using china server. Whats the recommended gateway for this?
