Waiting for a good priced 256gb/8gb model on Amazon, and I will pull the trigger.

  • +2

Nice, thinking of picking one up soon just in case I break my Mi 9T Pro.

  • Anyone can share their experience?

    • +7

Not bad overall. Camera is a bit pants in lowlight due to no OIS but it's a lot better with gcam and performs really well in daylight.

Screen is decent, but has green tint at lower brightness (fixed with custom rom).

Miui and stock Poco launcher is a bit crap and laggy, but again fixed with custom rom (HelluvaOS).

Battery is solid 1.5 days (actually 4420 rated cell instead of 4520 lol).

SD870 is very fast and snappy with 120hz screen.

TLDR: not great as a stock experience, but it really comes to life with gcam and a custom rom

Second this but I've never had an issue with green tint myself (not saying you're wrong, but have also heard of this issue and it might have been early production batches)

Have used it only with MIUI, and only since it's received MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition update, has the 120hz refresh rate been achieved 90/95% of the time. Before that, the smoothness was quite choppy, dropping down to 90/100 fps.

Seems to be the usual thing for Xiaomi that I've experienced. Only few months after launch is the software and bugs ironed out.

Overall, very decent phone for the price. I have the 8/256 version.

        • +1

Idk only got mine a month or two ago from Banggood.

The green tint is because Xiaomi used the cheapest panel they could find. It's actually a recycled panel from the Poco f2 pro, a 60hz panel that they have overclocked to 120hz, not to mention it's an E3 amoled instead of advertised E4. The tint is only noticeable on lowest brightness with a gray background, which I often use at night. Turn on night light for additional cringe.

Plus they also advertised it as having the same haptic motor as the mi 11, but it's actually significantly worse (Proper mi 11 one is a drop in replacement for like 3 bucks on AliExpress and is loads better).

This phone is a monstrosity of recycled parts (same motherboard as mi 10t but literally flipped, overclocked screen from Poco f2 pro, recycled camera from 2019 mi 9t… the list goes on) but it does the job for a good price I guess

          • @Fishdog: Agreed on haptic motor, there's been threads about that on XDA about how noisy it is. Which still hasn't been fixed and somehow must be a hardware issue. I've learnt to get used to it I suppose.

Have had mine since the initial sale on AliExpress when it was announced, so probably closing in on six months now.

I still have my Mi 9t and it's not a step up except in screen and processor and stereo speakers of course. I could have gone without the macro camera and have the 2x telephoto that was on the Mi 9t. But overall it's a nice phone and decent for the price , if you value performance over many of the other specs.

          • @Fishdog: Is this model also affected by that proximity sensor issue that seems be plaguing the other poco/xiaomi phones?

            • @johnjones8: No it isn't. Was only Poco X3 Pro etc haven't seen any reports for the F3 on the POCO Community.

              • @adrianhughes1998: @adrianhughes1998 @Fishdog I guess it might just be a hit and miss thing based on these reddit posts then.

                1, 2, 3, 4.

            • @johnjones8: By proximity sensor issue, yes this phone doesn't have a proximity sensor, as it uses a ultrasonic one. However I had no issues with it on both miui and on custom roms

        • I got mine on launch (was early enough to get a launch bonus so likely one of the first), and have no green tint, so I think it might just be a lottery.

Overall I am extremely happy with this phone, and actually just advised my dad to buy one.

    • Been very happy with it.

Never bothered with the default launcher, i use microsoft launcher with it.

    • Had for about over a month and no problems so far, just installed xiaomi.eu rom to clean out the bloatware

Xiaomi camera is very good, gcam unnecessary
      Performance and battery is excellent

Recommend get 8/256 for more space as no SD card slot

Wait until pricing drop to around mid $300

  • +4

Obligatory caution - no 4G calling (VoLTE) on Telstra, drops back to 3G. Still HD Voice on 3G though.

    • That's weird, how come? Does the 8GB/256 variant have this same issue?

    • +2

Try going into the dialer and typing *#*#86583#*#* to disable the VoLTE carrier check. It's worked on past Pocos of mine to enable VoLTE when it hasn't worked.

*#*#869434#*#* for VoWIFI. This one is hit and miss though.

            • +2

@harryozz: Mate, i have had xiaomi last over 5 years.

Was waiting for it to die but never happened.

              • +1

@Korban Dallas: Yeah wife an i am have had 7 xiaomi phones now. Only one broke and that was after going for a swim. All the others still work.

              • @Korban Dallas: Some people have been suggesting to change firmware do you guys think i will have to change it ?

                • +1

@harryozz: I dont see any reason to. Works great as is.

Never noticed a green tint nor had anything seem slow in any way.

                • @harryozz: Miui eu for new phones

                  Lineage os for old ones

  • are these australian 5G bands e.g n78 or only overseas ones, not worried about 4G.
finally have 5 G coverage at my home,
my bad seems it does n78

    • +3

5G in Oz is a joke. slow response big ping

      • +1

At the time Australia banned Huawei, all the other providers hacked up the prices. And the 5G roll-out also turned into a nightmare due to no competition.

      • I'm getting like 400 download and 120 upload, maybe no 5g towers near you?

        • +1

5G on Pixel 6 Pro on Telstra here in my house in southern suburbs Adelaide with 3/4 signal gets 50mbps down 30 up during my the day and 100mbps down and 50 up in the middle of the night. Latency better than 4G but still nowhere near NBN replacement territory.

For the sake of comparison; 4G gets 30 down, 15 up during the day.

It is indeed a joke. Huawei getting banned hurt.

          • @BradH13: they cannot compete hence the ban, not worry them anyway as consumers/citizens are the ones who mainly lose out + definite total control is better than sharing (in case Huawei is serving Chinese gov which is not a case as so far there is nil evidence yet)

      • Go back a few years to 500Mhz 1G Analogue, We have it too good today, always a new benchmark to compare to!!

    • You won't be able to make calls on 5G (VoNR/Vo5G) for a while yet - 4G (VOLTE) for calls, and the F3 doesn't do VoLTE on Optus or Telstra so it probably won't do so on 5G either.

  • I am sure this is not a new question, but can anyone please post a video of how to install a custom rom? Thanks

    • Check YouTube and XDA for instructions.

  • Has anyone who bought the Poco F3 5G: 6+128GB from Amazon got notification of it being shipped ?
