Up to 50% off Apple iPad Smart Cover @ Telstra Stores
This was posted 1 year 2 months 2 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Apple iPad Smart Cover on clearance at Telstra Stores (may not be offered at Telstra Licensed Stores).
35% off Apple Polyurethane iPad Smart Cover - $29 (original price $45).
50% off Apple Leather iPad Smart Cover - $39 (original price $79).
I saw this deal being mentioned in Whirlpool and decided to check it out in Brisbane. I found iPad Smart Covers on sale at both Chermside and Strathpine Telstra Stores. This deal should be available across the nation.

Most OEM accessories for tablets have a huge markup, so Apple isn't the only company at fault here. The "smart cover" for the Asus Transformer Prime costs about $50 in Australia, and is pretty much identical to Apple's version:

alwayseric on 23/03/2012 - 21:46 ¶fair comment. i paid $17.5 for a smart cover that was posted here last week. it does have “smart" function. i reckon far better than this discoutned apple one in terms of value.

Not guaranteed. Some official smart covers have already been identified as having the polarity issue, but Apple will exchange it for a new one if your one is faulty.

+1 voteBest way is to do what corgi said. Use the store locator: http://store-locator.tstores.com.au/
License stores have a * next to them. If you ever get a phone from a licensed store make sure you keep your receipt (your contract is not a receipt!)

illumination on 24/03/2012 - 00:17 ¶I agree that these things aren't even worth $29 and $39, but if you're really in the market for one then it's a great price since Apple stuff is hardly discounted.
But.. yea you could find a "cheap smart cover" from those random Asian "gadget" stores for $15ish and they cover the whole iPad and still have the "smart" function.
johndoe789 on 24/03/2012 - 03:08 ¶They don't make orange smart covers anymore. Could it be they were trying to get rid of old stocks?

heads up that it might not work with ipad 3

+1 votetheguyrules on 24/03/2012 - 09:08 ¶Yes. You can easily buy back covers which work with te smart cover.

Yes, products like the Belkin Snap Shield Secure have a magnetic strip that will hold the Smart Cover when it is opened.

Red-dragon on 24/03/2012 - 11:07 ¶I might get shot down for this but I recently bought 2 'mock-up' iPad smart covers from eBay, for $12 each (included free postage). They're EXACTLY the same as the Apple Polyurethane varieties. They also include other colours not available from Apple (I bought a RED Polyurethane cover, which is only available in the overpriced leather selection from Apple). Recommend.
Red-dragon on 24/03/2012 - 11:46 ¶There're several selling iPad smart covers.
I bought mine from seller: uniqueideasltd (the Polyurethane covers are the same as Apple, but some buyers have complained about the leather ones that they sell not being very good. Recommend the Polyurethane over the leather).
Another seller who might be good: greens-solutions. Sells and ships from Melbourne.
Strand0410 on 24/03/2012 - 15:55 ¶Check out crazyapple-store on eBay for their smart covers. I picked one up for ~$13 with free shipping in aus. It works fine with my iPad 3 and is essentially indistinguishable from the real thing. Worst I can say about it is that if you handle the edges roughly, it might fray a tiny bit (but my genuine polyurethane one does this too, so who knows?)

Yes magnets are in the right place, it does the wake function when you peel the the cover back. Using iPad 3 here, ymmv with any other model.

Bought a black 'smart cover' off an ebay seller in black for $12 as well. Doesn't work with my iPad 3, magnets are off. Had to align it 3cm up just to get the wake/sleep function working. Bought from the seller as they indicated it works, after highlighting the fact in their description. Have to pay return postage of $5, seems like an exercise in futility.
Better off buying a legitimate one.
Red-dragon on 24/03/2012 - 11:49 ¶I see. Works with my iPad 2. But I haven't tried it with the new iPad. Incidentally, I heard of some people saying the same thing about the genuine Apple smart covers (which were released a year ago) not working as they should with the new iPad.

Can you please email me a copy of the receipt?
Usmellfunny@hotmail.comMany thanks!!!

I was kindly advised by the teenage staff at the Pakenham Telstra store that it is privately owned and thus if I want to buy an iPad on a plan then and only then can I purchase a Smart Cover at half price. I now know exactly where I WON'T be buying anything, let alone an iPad.

I got one from Telstra northland, it's marked down to $39 but scanned at the original price, they gave it to me for the discounted price, been using a knock off before, needless to say original is so much better, cant compare, there are a few left on both shops at northland, melbourne

theguyrules on 31/03/2012 - 18:52 ¶Turns out it was fake, not much surprise there I suppose. At least I can get a full refund cause they said it was genuine.
+2 votessoakwashrinsespin on 26/03/2012 - 23:05 ¶I didn't neg gtan06's comment myself, but I suspect the negs are for:
A) Inappropriately negging the deal — an expired deal is not a valid reason for a negative. If you want something marked as expired, click "report" under the deal and select "expired" as the option.
B) Incorrectly claiming in a previous comment that the deal was no longer available on Friday 23, when plenty of people managed to get discounted covers on Friday and over the weekend. Hintswen, another Telstra rep, corrected gtan06 by saying: "Price changes happen on Monday night, effective Tuesday morning. (at least for Telstra owned stores)".

Am I alone in thinking even $29 for such a thing is nuts? Typical apple tax?
