  • So cheapp… but starting tomorrow

    • Yup.. just came back Msia .. had so much fun that tempted to go again LOL.. dont think the boss might approve my leave though…

Anyway.. yes, starting tom… thats why posting it today..

      • what did you get up to man?

i'm heading to Malaysia this year and would be interested to know

        • -4

In KL? There's not much. Because dominant religion is Islam, there are very few bars. You can find booze, but have to look around. Any and all drugs are illegal and can carry the death penalty… so you're going to have some of the tamest hostel parties of your life.

        • So i guess the country is more for sight seeing :(

        • +1

Which part of malaysia? Basically its eat, eat, shopping, eat, fishing for me. Went to KL, Ipoh, Penang (stop by Sitiawan/Lumut) for the fishing trip.

If you want more details, shoot me a note..

      • I agree with Strand0410….I am not racist against mozlems but not much of a place for fun, why travel if you can drink, buy a ladyboy and get stoned off your rocker. Bali way better and you get klunj ripe at 16 years….all legal!

  • +1

So cheap, hopefully they will not close down after the sales.

    • +1 good thinking! u never know, when you pay so much in advance!

      • Just pay with credit card for some security, however I doubt you will have any issues (never could say the same about Strategic/Air Aust).

The bigger problem is trying to get sale seats when the Air Asia site goes in to meltdown.

        • LOL @ you guys

you know how much AirAsia is earning?
at least they are not losing money like AirAust!!

        • Just read this on theage.com.au.. and thought a good tip with regarding @MrMaxwell's statement above.

          http://www.theage.com.au/travel/price-of-going-up-on-the-way…

          Extract..

          :
If you're concerned about booking travel with a low-cost carrier — or any airline — the best protection is to pay with a credit card.

You may have to pay a fee for doing so but in the case of an airline collapse you can apply for a reversal of the transaction.

Australia also has a consumer protection scheme, the Travel Compensation Fund, but it is important to understand that you are only covered if you purchase your flights as part of a package, including other travel components, and only if you buy from a licensed travel agent.

    • +2

The world would end if AirAsia closes down…

  • +1

Would they have any June/July sales? :(

    • They already did back in Feb. The LCC's are operating sales about 6 months out (with the exception of launch fares which have been about 3-5 months out)

  • Someone correct me if I'm wrong - but the fares above are taken from the AirAsia - Malaysian website — and are cheaper one way to Australia. - About $121 from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney

    See: http://www.airasia.com/my/en/promotion/rr0751001.page

However - a look at the Big Sale fares on the Air Asia - Australia website (just click the drop down box on the top right of the website) … show fares for example from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur for $245

    See: http://www.airasia.com/au/en/promotion/rr0751001.page

So all up its $366 return if you snare the cheapest return sale fare.

    • +1

It normally is cheaper to fly from KL to Au rather than the reverse. Last time I did it a year ago, the flight cost me $54 (no joke). Flying there cost me about $200.

      • wow $54, cheaper than go to Brisbane.

      • Omg that's ridiculous!
I'm hoping the link flights from KL to japan aren't too expensive…could use a nice break!

    • doesn't account for airport tax. i tried doing this a while back

the list price was cheaper pretending to start in KL (ie. KL-SYD-KL-SYD, disregarding the first leg)

but as I said, doesnt account for the airport tax

    • Typically flights in any currency but AU$ have tax, fees and surcharges added (the typical Asian plus plus effect). The ACCC demand that flights being sold in AUstralia in AU$ are fully inclusive.

  • nevermind.

  • wow sydney's premium seats are cheaper than perth/melbourne/goldcoast…

  • Does anyone know if you need to book the legs separately to get the best deal.. ie, a one way from Melb-KL and then book the return trip as a one way?

Or is it ok to just select Return trip.

    • usually 2x one way = 1 return on the discount airlines - you mix and match the legs to sum to the return value.
(no better off booking a return)

    • We booked in Feb. definitely got cheaper overall fare by booking 2 x one-way. Cost us $199 + $99 gold coast to KL and back. From memory we saved about $50 booking separately.

  • Perth-Bali return flights total: A$205, is that a good price or can it get any cheaper?

    • $205?? I wouldn't settle for less than $50! ;)

    • you're wondering wether flying from perth to bali and back for the price of what, 3 tanks of fuel in your car is a good price?
I think its a pretty impressive price, considering it costs me almost that to fly one way from Newcastle to Melbourne if I don't book the tickets early enough

      • I was just wondering if there's a better price happening before so I can make a valid comparison.

  • im trying to book for december, but the price is $376 (one-way)
is the sale its already started?

    • Starting tomorrow

  • aahh.. dammit pregnant mrs - due end June. Would love it if we could fill out the baby details later..

    • +1

Fill in what you think you might name it… you can always do a name change.

      • +2

choose a unisex name like Kim or Cameron or Charlie, then name your kid's middle name that and use it on the booking!
Will be a great story growing up… why did you get that middle name…. well…..

      • Slight problem with a date of birth perhaps?

    • I too was in the same situation in late 2010. I just booked the tickets stating the name as "Baby SURNAME". Later once the baby was born and obtained a passport, I called Air Asia and changed the name and gave the passport details as well.

That was so easy and the staff was very helpful.

  • So is the price also the same for KL back to Australia? Can't find a mention of return fare to Australia as described in title

  • sweet! will work well combining with my Scoot tickets from Sydney to SG!

    • -1

Problem with Scoot is you can't connect to other Asian destinations on cheap fares like you can with AirAsia.

  • -4

According to my local travel agents. airasia will not be flying after 30 April*going broke.
A few flight finder webpages no longer show their prices either. maybe true maybe not

    *to Australia anyway

    • i think air asia x is feeling pinch a bit.
      x being longhaul routes.

    • Such BS it is not funny.

    • AirAsia reported an operating profit of RM1.2 billion for the year ended Dec 31, 2011.

      http://www.thesundaily.my/news/330945

      • Just passing what I heard.I was looking for Bali flight from Darwin, which is usually cheap as from here.but 3 agents said they weren't flying. wish they were, I miss 39 buck flights

        • are you sure they're not just flying THAT route anymore ?

    • sources?

    • This will only happen when those bast*rds who cannot be named steal / rob all the money from Airasia boss.

    • meh, that's what travel insurance is for.

      • Travel insurance doesn't cover you for airlines going broke. mine didn't with air australia

BUT mastercard did as "non delivery of goods"

  • +2

Fizzydrink works for Qantas and his/her drink is going flat………

  • When's this sale go live?

    NM: It's 03:00 AEDST

  • -7

now i like this sale because the site shouldnt crash at 3am.. where is everyone going and whats the best way to book..

Im booking 4 people to ho chi min 26th dec to 2nd jan. I wonder if i can select ho chi min or just kl and then book onward

  • Is that price inclusive of taxes? I just did a dummy one (no sale price yet) the airport tax plus fuel surcharge is like A$220 for a return trip….

  • Past Air Asia sales at 3am (12am Asian time!) have crashed big time. Don't forget you also have 100 million people from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia trying to buy $5 domestic flights

  • +1

For me… it's not a bargain! (still cheap though)

$245 AUD MEL->KL (it's not that bargain as "promo" price for air asia)

    fyi… it's just $149 AUD MEL->KL one month ago ($100 bucks cheaper)
    http://www.airasia.com/au/en/promotion/rr0280901.page

you can't compare the price between budget air and normal ones… I'll prefer the $399 AUD MEL->HK for Qantas promotion last week.

(sorry if i said anything wrong, just my self opinion)

  • is this sale on in like an hour?

  • Looping:

    Welcome to our waiting room!
Don’t worry, you’re already in queue to grab the best fares we have.

We will update this search again in
    12 sec

  • -4

i cant see any stupid fares

  • yeh the fares arnt cheaper

  • Oh what no promo fares (yet?)!

  • nope the same as they were an hr ago

  • its 245 each way crap

  • -1

  • yeh dont bother, i sat in the waiting room then when i got thru it wasnt cheaper

  • +2

this is crap man i waited up to 3am for this im gonna jack off on their windows in my may flight

  • 'malay'bargained!

    • whats that mean

      • If they had a Malaysian equiv. of 'oz'bargain…

  • anyone get the good deals? what where they

  • +1

it ended up being a few dates with 245 each way not return.. plus taxes it was 332 each way cheapest

  • +1

waste of time, no deals after gettiing up early

  • Another AirAsia 'BULLSHIT' Sale - to/from KL to Australia from (Approx) AUD $20 trillion

  • +2

anyone got good deal for MEL-KL-MEL?…prices don't look that awesome.

  • Got myself a nice ticket… $135 KL to Seoul (with some addons)

  • there's a few KL-SYD's for $125 out there, but few and far between. don't align to holiday requirements, so no good for me.

  • +1

No good! Not cheap at all…. Same dates late Jan, MEL KL MEL . last night's price A$663. This morning woke up so early to beat the traffic - got A$580 grrrr BIG savings apparently… Should have stayed in bed… At least I investigated. Thanks for posting tho

  • where did you get the 95 bux from nothing like that anywhere, really wish there was an easier way to search for cheap flights, adioso.com doesnt seem to have up to date prices.

    • +1

try skyscanner.com - Has options to compare fares over a week, month etc.

  • prices aren't that great

  • +1

I believe the deal title may have been misleading - it is RM 395 KL - Sydney. If you search for deals departing Australia, there is nothing like AUD 95 - it's at least AUD 195 to get from Australia to KL (from Perth).

    http://www.airasia.com/au/en/promotion/rr0751001.page

It's not AirAsia's fault, I did not see anything in the email or ads about AUD 95, it's all (mostly) AUD 245 from Australia or AUD 195 from Perth.

    I'll fix up the description.

    • thanks was about to neg the deal. though i still cant find any cheap flights return either

    • I have no problems with anyone amending my details, but I dont believe I posted anything misleading. AUD$95 is pretty much the same as RM$295.

Original post is "from KL to Australia from (approx) AUD$95". I would have been happy to put it as "from KL to Australia from RM 295" . AUD99 x 3.2 (exchange rate) is RM$316. I even put in the exchange rate in the description.

nevertheless, I'm not going to challenge any 'mod's :). Lessons learned: I guess next time I'll stick with the advertised currency.

      • by the way, thanks for amending the price chart to a proper table.. :)

      • +1

@ausooi, didn't mean to offend, it's just that from the comments here, many thought that they would get AUD 95 fares and got disappointed when they saw that the cheapest from Sydney/Melb was actually AUD 245.

Actually your original title was "from/to KL" not just "from KL", which I think what was confusing us. I just wanted to make things clearer by quoting fares/flight directions in AUD.

        • +1

Ahh.. point taken… Thanks for the clarification… :)

It was just a bit hard for me to 'verify' these AirAsia sales (a day before the actual sales period), mainly just wanted to give a heads up to OZB'ers ..

As I said, I have no problems with any correction. As long as this post helps others to actually get some sort of good deal, its my aim.

And of course, apologies to whoever that may be confused by the original title/description.

        • +1

mainly just wanted to give a heads up to OZB'ers ..

Thank you, I actually checked AirAsia first thing in this morning too :P
And from the votes, you can see that many love the deal.

      • +1

Forgot to say, thank you for posting, and mods make mistakes too, so please do discuss with us using the Talk with a moderator forum anytime.

  • Can't find any for late December to Early Jan. Might have to wait 'till next sale :(

    • There won't be cheap fares in PEAK times (school holidays) You need to be retired or have totally flexible holidays to take full advantage of Air Asia sales. I just click on next day until I get a PROMO fare

      • Not in my experience. Just seems this time 'round there was nothing!

  • Damn. All for early october are gone. Knew I shouldn't have slept last night :(

  • Couldn't see Brisbane so I take it Air Asia Doesn't land at Brisbane?

    • gold coast OOL

  • +1

i dont see why people complain so much…flying with basically any other airline u will be paying $700 minimum for a return flight to KL for example, where as u can do it for under $500 with AAX? $200 is easily worth it!

    • Sorry I accidentally clicked + lol I thought it was a reply button.

$200 isn't worth it imo. You dont get points & food..and have you seen the check in line at the airport?

Last time I flew THAI in Melbourne and the checkin counter was close to Air Asia. I was shocked for a few seconds thinking that was THAI's line.

$300 from last time is a different story.

      • I got some tickets to Phuket - (we were already planning on flying, so we did NEED tickets).

Saved $300 per person compared with Thai (including paying for food/comfort pack/entertainment on Air Asia)

So all up saved $600 for the both of us…

        Not to be sneezed at?

  • I got $300 return tickets Syd > KL back in the Feb sales…so this is expensive

    • Was that for Dec/Jan (peak time)?
