Accidentally Deleted WhatsApp Messages?

I recently accidentally deleted one of my what’s app contact messages on IOS 11 iPhone 7 Plus completely and have no sort of back up, is there any apps or software for free which you can recover them?
I already started a new convo for the person will that matter? I googled and heaps of places say you can some say you need professional tools and such, can’t tell which is real and not, cheers.

  • Did you have it synced to other devices? Sometimes you can recover the messages by putting that other device offline before you open WhatsApp again and it won't be able to sync the deletion so you can copy them out into a word file or something.

  • Doesn’t it auto back up on iCloud?

      Nah depends on your settings.

If it’s not backed up to iCloud, they are gone my friend

  • No I never backed up anything at all, it is just for one contact I need to retrieve it, Google seems to tell me there are software you can pay or get a specialist to do it, I thought data recovery specialist can do this?

Any idea if what'sapp servers actually hold any of this as it gets sent through their servers?

People can recover deleted photos and documents on a PC when after recycled in bin can't see why U cant

WhatsApp do not store any of your data on their servers. It’s an end-to-end encrypted platform, that’s sort of the whole point. The only place your messages exist are locally on your device, in iCloud if you chose to backup there, and on the device of the recipient, either locally or in the cloud.

Not reliably, and at massive cost. Ask someone who’s had to pay to recover a hard drive full of photos. You’ll get some back if you’re lucky, and you’ll pay huge $ for the expertise. These photos and documents aren’t encrypted. Your WhatsApp chats are.

Well if you’ve already got an answer, what are you posting here for? I can guarantee you that no software, free or paid, exists to help in what you’re trying to do. Any website that says otherwise is trying to scam you.

That software is almost certainly a scam, malware or does nothing.

The only thing you can do is ask your mate for print screens.

    • Most of these tools are misleading, they are just downloading your icloud backup.

  • Just call them next time then there's nothing to delete

  • You might be in luck for IOS 11
SQLite databases are not deleted immediately https://sqliteforensictoolkit.com/sqlite-forensic-toolkit/
Files are likely gone as soon as you delete them.

If this actually matters you should:
Make note of the pass code and then turn off the device to prevent any data being written over as part of write/wear levelling/reallocation then contact a company like https://www.elcomsoft.com/eppb.html and ask them if their tools can retrieve deleted data.
I do not believe this is possible on iOS for any tool even with a jailbreak.

If this data is needed for court, you should speak with your solicitor to ensure you don't spoil evidence.

EDIT: Just checked the way to delete files since iOS4 is to wipe the file key. They are gone.

    The only possibilities are:
iCloud/iTunes Desktop/Whatsapp backups/Fast App Switching cache (if you are luck) and unless you used whatsapp since viewing it,
or that the data is still in ram. In which case don't turn off the phone, don't use it, ring a forensics company like Elcomsoft and expect a massive bill and a low probability of getting it as you'll need to do something like pop Safari via renderer (easy), sandbox escape (easy since it's ios11), then retrieve all the ram and carve out images based on magic bytes.

TL;DR Check to make sure you haven't got a backup and kiss the file gone, unless you are willing to pay big bucks for a low probability of success. If it's been a while since you deleted it, or rebooted, you can kiss this option goodbye too.

  • do a crime and I'm sure the police will be able to get those messages back for ya

might spend a few years in jail but prolly worth it
