I'm begging someone to tell me how something like this is worth 369…

    • +14

Speaking as someone who spent 3 years legally blind; i know people who spend well above $369 for their glasses.

This is similar; if you want to 'see' the world as clear as possible, you pay for better built 'lenses'.

Though like this, is key to your question, because just like a glasses wearer picks a frame; most dont want the clinical looking plain oval; same applies to sound, people think they want a flat response, but Sennheiser and Koss have been proving beefy lower-mids make people much happier, for decades.

These specific headphones, i dont rate highly.
Denon has long had a massive brand premium.

  • +3

Buy now, work out whether I need it later, thanks OP

  • +2

There's plenty of headphones with a higher rrp than these. Or are you suggesting these are sh*t

  • +6

    30mm drivers for this rrp?!

    • First the AKG headphone and now this, what's going on with supposedly 'top brand, premium deluxe earphones' at 300+ going for 75 bucks?

      • -4

No one is dumb enough to spend stupid money on snake oil anymore

        • I disagree, many people are spending big on headphones. Maybe you just have crappy ears or listen to terrible music, so you can’t hear the difference?

          • @Slippage: If you can take a video of yourself blind listening to 320kb vs lossless and tell the difference please send video and let everyone know

            • +6

@asafasr: That's a false equivalency, easy to tell the difference between $300 and $1000 headphones, but can still be difficult to tell the difference between lossless and 320kbps

              • @cille745: It’s really not.

Dr Sean Olive has shown this in detail. Price and sound quality are completely unrelated.

                This is a gold read:
                https://asa.scitation.org/doi/full/10.1121/1.4984044

                • @seerious: There have been thousands of studies showing human hearing cannot discern the differences hifi headphones are claiming. Its all snake oil sales tactics. Any decent headphone brand that doesn't distort is good enough.

            • +2

@asafasr: We aren’t comparing source material, we are comparing headphones.

So if you want to see me compare a set of JBL-500’s to focal utopia‘s, feel free to shoot me a pm and I’ll send you my address.

            • +1

@asafasr: This is actually surprisingly easy on good headphones.

        • -1

Could I interest you in these genuine authentic Borneo lizard oil?

    • +2

Seeing this kind of comment a lot in the thread, and the size of the drivers (within a range) don't make or break a product.

Note that these are on-ear headphones, not over-ear, so they will typically have smaller drivers. Bigger drives do not inherently mean bigger/better bass, acoustics, materials science and electrical engineering are a little more complicated than that.

That being said, Denon have been trading on their brand recognition for a while and this is not a noteworthy product.

  • +12

The most premium thing about this is the RRP.

  • +5

    They're promoting 30mm drivers… as a feature?

  • Buy now think later, or?

    • +9

Buy now regret later, then refund.

      • +1

the refund part only coming if no one buys your headphone on ebay at RRP because they all seem to have one for $75 too.

  • +6

Not someone who understands audio tech at all but:

    features proprietary 30mm drivers

…my gaming headset have 40mm drivers

both featuring high purity Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) cable technology…gold-plated connectors

..if my memory watching tech youtubers remains correct, all this 'cable tech' talk is marketing bullshit

Designed to look as good as they sound

…if you told me you got it for 30 bucks on aliexpress i wouldnt doubt you, having seen something this ugly since the last time I saw something this ugly

Upvoted because this is indeed stupidly cheap compared to everywhere else, but I wouldnt use this even if received for free ngl

  • +8

    Junk.

  • +2

Loads of marketing crap "European Design - Designed to look as good as they sound, the AH-MM200 features a fresh European style-inspired design that combines classic styling with a modern touch."

    On ear headphones are disgusting

    • +1

I reserve only KOSS as a worthy on ear brand, likely because they know what they're doing when it comes to on-ear, very lightweight and no clamping force set of stereophones, and none of that crush your ears nonsense.

      • The PX and Momentum managed to balance the pressure right also.

They dont move; but they dont clamp.

      • Agree. I have Koss PortaPro, KPH30i, KSC35, KSC75, UR40. At around $65 or so, either the PortaPro or KHP30i are no-brainers, especially the clear KHP30i.

        • It's awesome as that the speakers clip onto multiple koss products easy. I paired the KsC75 wireless with the portapro headband and unlike the pros, the extra length cord of the 75 wraps around the band meaning no dangles. The purest wireless experience of no annoying in ears or ear pressure, and yet the sound ain't shit cuz it's KOSS.

If in the future there will be self levitating speakers floating near your ears without touching you, this is that closest experience today.

      • Sennheiser HD 25 Plus are very well regarded for sound quality.

Audio Technica's ATH-MSR7 was another, but they mucked it up with the 7b revision. Well-made on-ears often offer a wider stage than their closed or open counterparts.

    • Give B&O H8i a try - they might just change your mind (I got them at JB for $220 a few months ago). I also own The H95, they're nice, but not as much of an upgrade as I expected.

  • +1

    Looks like a $25 set.

Stay away from on ear. They will wreck your ears and get them blocked. I always use over ears

    • Agreed… Can't stand 'on ear' headphones. Uncomfortable and compromised sound. No way!

      • Good on you mate. I used to have grados which are on ears. My ears would hurt after 30m.. Crap as hell.

        • All that grado premium sound is worthless if people can't even stand wearing them

          • @dbmitch: Yes I was caught on the premium talk. 😊

  • +2

look for over the ear, on the ear hurts. on ear headphones are always discounted because everyone hates them.

  • +1

These fake-RRP Chinese brands are everywhere now.

Don't fall for "80% off" guff.

    • It’s has been $99 every two weeks for the last 2 years. It get posted here and sells out. Go figure.

  • +1

Lot of negative comments. But no one explains why. Is it just your feeling that this is trash?
Has anyone actually read a review?

2.0 out of 5 stars Smallest Headphones Ever? Could not keep on. Fair Review.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 May 2017
      Colour Name: WhiteVerified Purchase
Finding these Denon Headphones for £65 instead of their normal retail price of £200, I thought that I was having a luck filled day and was ready for a luck filled couple of days when they arrived and I could indulge in high quality music with the natural sound blockage of On-ear headphones, but alas, I was actually having unlucky days as these headphones are quite inadequate..

My issues with these headphones mostly comes down to their tightness in their build, which failed to keep these headphones on my head! I don't know if I have an incredibly small head now, but these headphones easily slipped right off when I looked down or they would move around easily with head moving speeds, I had to sit perfectly still to stop them moving; definitely impossible to use on the move.
Their sound quality was very good for the reduced price, however trying to get a good listen was difficult as their was a gap between my ear and the padding, leading me to physically squeeze them tight to reduce sound leakage.

Comfort was there (if you excuse the part where they're only on your head for a minute), the ear padding was super soft along with the headband padding, could be worn for a long period of time whilst staying still.

I'm not an audiophile, just an average consumer, disappointed with these Denon headphones and would definitely discourage anyone from making this purchase.

    Are these Made in Japan?

  • +3

I have a pair of the 300s. Sound is clear, confort is nice, but do not wear them on public transport or anywhere noisy and expect to enjoy your music. Even though they're closed, because they're on-ear, so much sound gets in and it's awful… Not the fault of the product.

  • tempted but will save up for sony xm3 or xm4

  • +1

Cancelled my order. Got too many cans.

  • Under the premium price are horrible headphones which underperform even compared to Kmart $30 DJ headphones.

    • No, these are much better than Kmart $30.
They are probably similar or better than BW P3s.
I skipped them because they are over ears and sound stage wouldn't be as good.

      • The Kmart one has better specs and look better too. I dunno.

      • I just received these, build quality is excellent, actually surprisingly good… they are smaller than I expected but sound keeps up with my Sennheiser PXC 550s (maybe I am just getting old) ;)

  • How are any of these deals from Amazon even listed here , 8 pair is stock and gone in 6.4 seconds.
I just want some headphones dammit .

    • The deal was posted at 11:10am and marked out of stock at 4:14pm if you check the timestamps above.

Edit: If you're quick there is one left in stock if you still want to purchase.

      • Bloody logic grumble grumble.

        • I edited my comment above so not sure if you noticed but there's one left in stock 😃
