No Internet Connection on Holidays

I’ll be going on holidays where there is no reception out in the bush. Is there anything I can pre pay to be connected to internet? Need to buy it asap.

If there is no reception where you are going out in the bush, then there is no way to get online using ground-based signals.
The only option for you is:
    1) Satellite system (can be rented - e.g. from Optus)
    2) Wait until you pass within range of a 4G network signal as you travel around.

Might be worth checking the location where you're staying just to see where the closest coverage point is for the main telecoms providers. You can do this on Telstra, Optus, websites

Just enjoy the break from the internet.

You could hire a satellite phone for emergencies.

    • satellite phone for emergencies.

      Or hire a free PLB.

We have very different ideas about holidays. I always try and go somewhere without signal deliberately.

Anyway, there are those mobile phone boosters/repeaters. I've heard of Cel Fi (IIRC) and others but no experience with any of them.

Easy, just get a Vodafone sim and drive 60 min from the city 😆🤣

  • Check with the accommodation whether they provide wifi for you to use

OP is probably free camping in the @rse end of nowhere.

    This could be you.

    IDK

Can you even be on holiday with the Internet?
(take the Nuclear launch codes, the sunblock and plenty of water)

    That's the point isn't it?

Okay I'll give you two answers both of which are actually feasible if you are going on holiday.

    1) Assuming you want high speed internet and don't have access to starlink or a military grade downlink (WGS) you can use an Iridium Certus connection and get up to 700kbps downstream. You'll need a missionlink terminal or equivalent and about $10,000 to get started. Assuming you're on land and don't want a contract you're looking at about $4 to $9 per megabyte in data costs.

You could also use a Viasat aviation terminal and this might help as well by using NBN skymuster satellites.

    2) Alternatively you could just enjoy the great outdoors or not go on holiday.

What do you need the internet for? If it's for talking with other people you're camping with with walkie talkies work?

In the bush? Plug your mobile phone into a tree - you could at least then make a Trunk Call.

Need a USTree Cable and port…

  • You're barking up the wrong tree there

  • Thanks all for comments.. :)

  • Rent your own satellite…

First world problem. Looks like OP is doing this type of holiday for the first time. And yeah what about power for your phone? I hope you have got base power.

I had been in these circumstances on many occasions, never done camping but lived in off-range areas, so what I used to do is I go to area once a day where I can get range and download all messages ie email and WA and then return, read and respond and keep it pending for sending again when connected next time. It worked very well, I had by now mastered this art when I was cruising in Latin America and doing a safari in Africa.

  • Go old school get some homing pigeons.

  • not sure about surfing internet but could also consider buying zoleo and you could communicate via sms, email or zoleo app to app messaging. You could get them from a number of retailers including auspost.

  • What's the point of going camping if you can't post about it on Instagram?
